OK,

Firewatch, Kona, The Long Dark.

Different stories told with the same engine and probably even the same assets?

I smell the results of a class project.
Great bait m8.

Well, that wasn't the intent, it's just that I got and played all three, I like walking simulators, but when you see the same house on stilts, it starts sinking in.

OK, I can get it, now who told the best story... at the moment, I like Firewatch.
I'm assuming it is a new trend in games. Walk, do nothing, walk so more, do even more nothing. I don't get it myself.

If this is the future of Virtual Reality, I hope they at least provide some very nice wooded areas to traverse and trails to explore. People already killed everything I grew up with as a child with 'progress'.

I'd totally get these games as VR, It'd be pretty immersive for sure. Something like Alien would be awesome.

Firewatch is a 'walking simulator' but aren't the other two like open world survival sandbox games?

I would love to play Gary's Mod in VR.

edit: yes, they are, but the similarity exists.

id rather play a walk do nothing game then a game thats being whored out to the hilt with dlc crap
or these annuals pieces of crap that are the same each and every year anyway
Btw, I saw videos about TLD ages before any news about Firewatch, so I'm not sure who came first exactly O_o

Oddly enough, Firewatch wasn't a walk and do nothing, there was an interactive dialogue which I enjoyed. I didn't get the entire intro though, unless it was to throw one off their usual guard of walking sims.

OK, I said it, I like Firewatch.

Oh, good, my opinion didn't count. :)

The future of VR is porn. Much better than do nothing-sims.

I'm not going to dispute that at all. If the porn industry gives it a "thumbs up" (open to interpretation there), it would probably be a game changer.

However, I wouldn't mind walking through woods or better yet, getting onto some hovering craft and flying through the scenery. I wouldn't mind being a flying squirrel for a week and coasting from tree to tree.

there's really a lot more to explore than one thinks about firsthand, but that 'imagination' is still there.
