Depends on what's being released.

If it's games, three or four a week is good.

If it's hostages, I think they should let them all go now. It's just not good business.

PaterAlf: For me 6-7 releases per week are perfect.

Azhdar: And do you buy all of them?
No, but with 6-7 releases per week I will always find 2-3 that I'll like and buy immediately. And so will others that like different genres.

I wouldn't want them to push themselves because there's more than just "releasing games" they have to worry about - patching, gamecards, legal, etc.

I do wish we were getting some more games I found interesting/exciting, however (especially at the start of this new year), ie high-on-the-wishlist or AAA ones. Or even just good games they previously rejected, as a show of good faith.

(Did GOG blow their load with the arrival of Disney and now it's all downhill from here? Hopefully not.)

If there's something strange
with the release schedule
Who you gonna call?
GOG bearers!

Am I doing this right? oO

real.geizterfahr: GOG bearers
That makes me think more of this.
I'd say 5-7 releases a week is fine, as long as they are varied enough (good mix of genres and selection between newer indies / older classics... seen as how new AAA titles that aren't made "in-house" are not likely to happen anytime soon)
As ever, I loath the boutique approach. GOG is too isolationist to make me part with my dollars.

Barry_Woodward: This topic isn't meant to be a simplistic call for MOAR RELEASES, it's about examining the pros and cons of increased output.
It's all been discussed already, more than once. And it always comes down to this: GOG is releasing as many games as is viable. There is no reason they would release less, and they can't release more. Their capacity is growing, and with it the yearly number of releases. GOG isn't maintaning some arbitrary number of yearly releases that we can discuss and prove to be wrong. We can't convince GOG to release more games, just as we can't convince Mr. Ron Obvious to succesfully jump the Engllish Channel. The difference is GOG is steadily improving- regardless of whether we discuss the matter twice a week or not.

So? Clearly the topic persists for a reason. Why try to stifle any further discussion?

Maybe. Maybe not. Determining what's viable isn't an exact science. There's a lot of guesswork involved and it's something that's constantly in flux.

I agree, but how does that affect their boutique approach going forward? That's worth exploring.

It's not "further" it's redundant.

Actually, it kind of is. GOG has quantifiable capabilities, expanding them has a quantifiable cost, and can bring quantifiable profit. And we do not have the necessary data, that only GOG has. Therefore, all we can do is speculate and guess, haphazardly and pointlessly.

Yeah, I agree. So long as it isn't 7 days of obscure point-and-click games! :P

It's an open discussion about an evolving issue that isn't any one thing in particular. Let the topic breathe a little.

As many as they can afford to.
Not sure what the ideal is. It feels slow a lot of the time, but some of that may just be the infrequency of items I have any real interest in, not because there aren't a significant number of titles rolling out. Not everyone likes the same stuff so it probably feels slow to a lot of people.

I think there is room in there to squeeze in another game or two a week as long as they keep the appeal for said games spread about. I would personally like them to give me more of things that interest me, but that seems rather selfish and unlikely - especially considering I'm not even sure what it is that I want. (Besides Outland that is.)
