The remaster was rated by the ESRB for PS5 and PC. I wonder if it will come to GOG and what will happen to the original. Will it be a free update for original owners, a $10 paid upgrade, or a full priced release?

I've also seen people saying that another Sony remaster might be announced soon. No new games though, or the ports people really want like Bloodborne. Not even remasters of any of their dormant franchises like Killzone or Resistance.

The original lacked any ray tracing so I'm guessing that's what their gonna add in and call it remastered.
Probably a new game fully priced like the Last of Us Part 1.

There is apparently rumors of another remaster but the quote was "not exciting" so it isnt Bloodborne. Could be God of War 2018. I think reviving a PS3 series that Sony has abandoned like Killzone would also be exciting too so not sure what it could be. Maybe Uncharted which has also been rumored to be getting a remaster.
It will be another pointless remaster that adds ray tracing on a game that wasn't designed for it, so it will probably ruin the intended lightning and other numerous things

Wish Sony would stick to porting new ps3/ps4 games
The snow deformation/physics weren't as reactive (leaving behind trails & tracks especially in deep snow) in the base game as they were in the expansion region, they are probably going to rectify that.

Hopefully they'll leave the character models untouched and not subsequently introduce the mandatory PSN account requirement. Which, if anything would certainly cause uproar accordingly.
It takes a special kind of idiot to greenlight a "remaster" of Horizon and not Bloodborne. Horizon is by far the most astroturfed franchise in modern gaming.

Horizon is by far the most astroturfed franchise in modern gaming.
Bloodborne: by February 2022, the game had sold 7.46 million copies.

Horizon Zero Dawn: as of 16 April 2023, the game had sold over 24.3 million units.

Pretty damn successful astroturfing.

God of War Ragnarok launches on PC in a couple of hours and is single player only, yet it requires a PSN account according to the disclaimer on Steam. I'm guessing they're gonna start forcing it for all their games going forward. They probably need something to show their investors and I guess an uptick in PSN accounts is it.

They had some great franchises on PS3 that I'd love to play again. A remastered trilogy collection of killzone, Resistance, or God of War would be amazing. I definitely prefer the old God of Wars to the new ones. Maybe infamous. Doubt it's any of those though. That would require some effort. Easier to "remaster" a recent game like Last of Us 2 which got a "remaster" less than 4 years after its initial launch...

Meanwhile Forbidden West sold only 8.4 million, a steep decline, with mixed-negative reactions online. This franchise is seeing diminishing returns, with very little online enthusiasm, so even though the first game did well Sony is clearly overselling the supposed popularity of Horizon.
Honestly there really comes a point when gaming companies just need to stop making remastered versions of their newer games. Like Horizon Zero Dawn still looks good, there really isn't any need for a remaster, especially when they're just gonna add ray tracing and very minor addition of details and charge them at full price.

But that's actually the point: They can charge the full price again.

You're not wrong. It just gets pretty annoying since they can also use the opportunity to not only add those aforementioned things to the remaster, but also fix some existing issues in the original game so they would work as intended in the remaster (something that should've been rectified through a free update and not a new game that you need to pay). Definitely a cheaper alternative than remastering a really old game.

But this thread is not about "Horizon Forbidden West", so...

And the numbers above are even more impressive, if you consider that "Bloodborne" got released in March 2015, but "Horizon Zero Dawn" got only relased in February 2017.

That means, "Bloodborne" had two full years more, to rack up sale numbers...and it still only sold about a third of what "HZD" sold.

Oh, and btw: "Horizon Forbidden West" got only released in February 2022...give it a few more years.

Edit: btw...

While we don't know how many copies "Bloodborne" has sold in the last two and a half years since February 2022, we know (thanks to your post) that "Horizon Forbidden West" has sold 8.4 million, in that same two and a half years.

And we also know that - to sell less than that (7.46 million), "Bloodborne" needed seven full years.

So - thanks for making my point, I guess?

Sony seeks to recoup as much as possible of the 200m eurodollars they pumped into Concord, and the nth remaster of older titles is a quick way to achieve that.

No surprise here, really.

Makes me wonder if this could also fast-track the GoG releases of Ghost of Tsushima, Forbidden West and the rest of the first-party titles not (yet) affected by the PSN requirement.

Sony might even reconsider and backtrack on the mandatory account for the PC ports altogether. It's just a nuissance pissing people off more than anything, after all.

So we're comparing the lifetime sales of a game that has a PC port, to a game that doesn't? (Bloodborne). Everyone talks about Bloodborne positively, while far less talk about Horizon positively. Just because a Marvel film makes a billion dollars, doesn't make it a good film. The first Horizon succeded because it was a new IP, and does look impressive, but as a franchise Horizon is destined to sell less, and less and less. And going back to my point, Sony should NOT have greenlit a remaster of this game, over Bloodborne. After the massive success of Elden Ring, to not piggyback off of that success with a Bloodborne remaster is pure stupidity.
