One of the biggest issues with buying games on GoG is devs/pubs choosing to ONLY update Steam and console versions of games while neglecting the GoG version. Do you have any plans to address this? Further, might a refund policy for games that are only ever updated on other platforms be warranted? I feel that if I'm going to continue buying games here on GoG, the publishers should have some substantial obligation to keep the game versions current.

Just to share with others who have this concern, I use the following post:

to check if a game has any known issues on GOG. Often the issue is not severe and doesn't affect the main enjoyment of the game. The issue still matters, certainly, so take a bit of time to check the ongoing support or lack thereof if it's important to you.

I'm all-for GOG doing something about this issue if they are also likewise, at the same time, going to finally do something as well about the issues of missing Achievements, missing DLCs, missing multiplayer features (that includes games that have Galaxy-only multiplayer when they should and need to have Crossplay with Steam), missing soundtracks, missing in-game content, etc. that also wreck many GOG games.

What I do not support is for GOG to do something about the missing updates issue only, whilst continuing to ignore and do nothing about all those other issues which are equally as bad and also in dire need of GOG to fix them.

The problem with fixing one problem whilst ignoring all the other ones is: why does that one problem deserve to receive special privilege above the other problems?

The only real & legitimate answer to that is: nothing makes it "more deserving" to be fixed over & above & instead of the others. Therefore, it should not be.

And as for that last sentence in that quoted statement: who is even to say that it would be "1 improvement at a time?" Chances are, it would not be. Rather, most likely it would be 1 improvement only, whilst the other problems continue to be ignored forever.

Not a winning strategy. You can't do everything at once. Most struggle to do one thing well. It's better to do one thing well than half ass a bunch of things.

And seriously...patches are more important than achievements. I like achievements but not having them will never prevent someone from running the game.

Man, as an late 80s, early 90s gamer, I miss the good old days when games had to be complete and thoroughly tested and patched BEFORE releasing them.

Is that the binding of isaac game problem with updates since they didn't update it a long time but they keep updating it on steam and other ports except gog.
To think i bought that game only because the newsletter discount was fine but then they abandoned the patches on gog.
So it kinda feels like i was tricked by the newsletter discount.

Even back then many Games got several updates, Space Invader being a famous example. And just the other day I played a early 80s arcade game which today still has collision check problems.
The main difference is that back then there was a lot less different hardware around, the games were a lot smaller, it was easier to test them. And they DID have bugs after release. But we learned to live with them.

Yes, another issue that makes one wonder whether gog really cares.

I've said this before - From a long term customer relations standpoint, it's much better to not offer games than to offer them without the same support as other stores (glances at Steam). If customers looking for a game comes here and sees it's not offered, they still will likely look here for other purchases. If customers buy a game here, discover patches that Steam got aren't here months (or even years) after Steam got them, will conclude it's not worth buying anything here in the future.

I really don't get why they continue to put up with this. It just seems..... odd to me.

Yeah, those tiny little games that were mostly linear and could often be beat in their entirety inside an hour and the quality of the average game release was absolute dog crap. Hundreds, if not thousands of terrible terrible games and people didn't really have the resources to know if a game they saw in the store was good or not.

Today the quality of an average game is many many many times greater. And so is the complexity. Nah, games are far better now. The only thing older games had going for them was novelty.

Sure there are more deserving fixes. If the current version of a game has a game-breaking bug and a patched version exists which fixes it, then clearly this is more deserving than for example adding cheevos to the same game. There's little point in painting the house if the foundations are coming apart. Priorities, my friend.

It is scandalous that this keeps happening. The blame of course is on the devs/publishers who consciously abandon their games here after having taken our money, but it casts a shadow on GOG's reputation too.

Sadly that is true. I tried to contact the makers of Another World a couple of times to bring the new update here, but they just ignored me.
A few other devs updated their games after contact however.

Some claim that the Galaxy API is too complicated. But that makes me wonder how the other devs are able to do it.

Considering how bloody complicated some of the games must have been to code in the first place, complaining that a documented API is too complicated to use in order to keep the games updated is a bit beyond a joke.

It's gotta be a cop-out. It may be more complicated than Steam's API, I wouldn't know, but surely it's not beyond their skillset to use.
