ShadowOwl: I'm really afraid that this game might be Petroglyph's ruin.
They had one successful game which was
Star Wars: Empire at War (+ Expansion).
Universe at War was a huge fail saleswise (and it's multiplayer was crippled by the fact that the game required Games for Windows Live and asked you to subscribe for a Live Gold membership for standard mp features). Then there are several online games for Windows which nobody have ever cared about and therefore been shut down. Finally there's the unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign for
Victory. And now there's
Grey Goo. The title appears to be turning off quite a lot of people. From a PR perspective I don't think it was very well chosen. The PR department doesn't seem to do a great job anyway. If there's one type of commentary on the current reports about the game it's: "Grey goo? What's that`Never heard of it".
The only thing that MIGHT prevent a disaster is the gameplay which has to be more than than just good. And considering that none of Petroglyph's games were really great I'm not getting my hopes up. Empire at War and Universe at War were quite fun but far from amazing and suffered from bad netcoding.
Good luck Petroglyph! You guys seem to have lots of ambitions, hopfefully this will somehow work out for you.
Well, as we´ve now got Empire At War on GOG we might have a chance to see GreyGoo on here too... :D
