It's really sad that GOG still seems to ignore this game.

@All
Demo is not ready yet, however it seems Wesley can't wait any longer and eager to put game through GOG curation no matter what.
Zan of Hedon fame is looking into it, he has some connections with the guys at GOG.

New showcase clip is expected any day now.

Why haven't you applied for a shiny orange badge of the developer?

I'm not a developer of a game that is on GOG yet :P
Hello GOG, anybody home?
Voted! GOG needs to get this game!
If this game comes to GOG I promise to buy it twice.
GOG did contact Selaco developer, it seems there will be no release here, at least not until Steam release.
I don't know what to think, this thread is not needed anymore I guess.

"GOG RELEASE UPDATE:

After 2 months and a re-submission, GOG finally decided to reach out to us! Without going into details [omitted from the text], we disagree with their requirements to get our game on their platform and have decided to not release Selaco on GOG. At least for now. The following was required to get our game on their platform:

1. A playable build for evaluation. This alone is completely out of question. We should not have to send playable builds in order for our game to arrive on their platform. Not only would that be disrespectful towards our backers, it is also unnecessary as there is plenty of Selaco related content to find online to confirm that it's a real game. What is the point of this?

2. Be more specific about our launch and its future plans (Early Access, DLC etc). Which, also, should not matter. If Steam does not ask these questions, we see no reason for GOG to ask that. We have not yet began to discuss any expansion packs / DLC internally because our main focus is to release an awesome base game.

With the lack of proper communication and professionalism, we decided to move on and focus entirely on a Steam release; where Selaco will remain DRM-free and can be played without running the Steam client in the background.

We hope that you understand our decision to not pull through. For questions, feel free to DM one of the Moderators or ask in #selaco-lounge."

Very interesting thread.

I love when devs are open enough to give us some of the real dirt on GOG, and say truthful things that GOG themselves would never dare to say publicly.

Although I can kind of understand why GOG wants a playable build of the game. How else would they determine whether the game is good or not?

However, I also recall reading on this board some years ago that GOG "curates" many/most/all games based only watching trailers of the games, but not actually playing them.

Is my memory failing me, or was there not a controversy about that some years ago, and did information not come out that GOG does at least sometimes not play the games that they "curate?"

And if so, has that changed, and do they now play all games they "curate?"

As for the devs' point of the future DLC plans and GOG needing to know that: I agree with the dev there. Why the heck does that matter? How is that relevant as to whether or not GOG should allow the game onto its store?
Hard to say, for instance I had no idea GOG have tried a playable build for coming Songs of Conquest game.

Now I know how it works, I expected something like that given the reply from Zan about GOG first checking on the Hedon demo, that is why I specifically asked Wesley to re-submit the game along with the demo. There is nothing I can do about it anyway.

Need for a playable build is understandable, at least from a company which has no previous game and unknown atm.

Be more specific about future plans? Probably gog wanted to make sure the dlc-s would come here too not just steam, the thing people asks gog all the time to not be a second class for gamers Btw how hard to answer with nothing is planned yet?

Would like to hear gog's opinion on this.
Thanks to Wesley de Waart for sharing this info and Cadaver747 for keeping us updated and for all your work. Couple thoughts:

I think gamedev misunderstood their intent. They need a playable version so they can curate the game and upload it to their platform. And how exactly is this disrespectful to their backers?

Isn't this so that GOG staff can know when to market the releases such as news posts, forum topics, email subscriptions, etc.? I think they want a heads up of what his release timeline looks like so they know when to market the content. Might be a bit infeasible to upload your DLC through Steamworks within a week and expect GOG to do it in the same time when it has to go through a couple people to get consent. But very understandable if some gamedevs don't want to deal with that.

Very sensible thoughts, I agree.

My interpretation of the devs' comments is that the devs did say nothing was planned yet, or something to that effect, but that answer was not good enough for GOG.

As for "hearing GOG's opinion on this"...fat chance. That's about as likely as ever hearing GOG's opinion on the real & truthful reason why they banned Devotion.
Damn, GOG bungled it ...
