Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Neonshuffler: So I have a lot of gog games installed over 3 hard drives can I just copy and paste all the games into the galaxy games folder and it will find them or would I have to reinstall each one?

a_lemming: I don't have the alpha, but if I recall correctly from earlier posts I think you have to reinstall the game through Galaxy? I don't think the alpha has autodetection yet. Also, you may find out that some of your games don't show up in Galaxy's list of games that you own. That's normal, not all games on GOG currently have Galaxy support.
Cheers.

I got a problem now. Whenever I try to Install a game in the client it greys out the play button and says "INSTALLATION POSTPONED: GAME IN SESSION" but I am not playing a game?
Recently got access to the client, and haven't given it a good run for its money yet, but wanted to say:

It would really help if during this testing stage you added to the sidebar a link to Mantis for feedback or opened some sort of private forum for discussion, instead of packing it into this thread. I'm not entirely sure why this hasn't been done yet, but I ran into this as a similar issue with the AvP test and having mild trouble figuring out how to provide useful feedback.

By limiting it to Mantis/single threads (that rapidly get bloated), it makes it hard to pick up on what's redundant feedback or not. In the case of Mantis, I didn't know of it until I dug through this thread, in the case of the thread issue, I still don't know all of what's been mentioned in this one alone.

I suspect this has been mentioned before, but I thought I'd put it out there again as someone from this new wave of client invites.

Hmm...Maybe you've got a hanging process still running from a game you ran previously? Open up task manager and make sure any gog or game processes have been stopped.

Also, head on over to mantis.gog.com, hit "view issues", and search for whether that's a bug other people have had, there may be solutions there. If not, you can make a new bug report and attach your log files.

No problem :)
Is there anything I should do about a bug if it has already been logged on mantis?
my game collection on the gog site says 173 but when I use the galaxy client I only see 132, Is this due to some games not compatible with the alpha or a server thing? cause all my tomb raider and fall outs and commandos games don't pop up with many others to install.

any info on this would be great

I don't think there's anything you *need* to do, but if you'd like you can go to the "add note" section of the bug's page and provide any new information you may have about the bug.

That's correct, it's due to some games not being compatible with the alpha just yet.
Have you guys thought about just partnering with Evolve? (evolvehq.com)

They already have a working game overlay, party system etc. and it even works with old games.
Achievements
1. Not all my games show up (Dracula 4/5, Hotline Miami 2 Wrong Number Comics, Mount & Blade, Realms Of Arkania 1+2, Rise Of The Triad)
2. The client becomes unresponsive when minimizing/maximizing and resizing window.
3. I added 15 games to download on a number of 6 concurrent connections and I noticed it takes around 3 minutes for a game to start downloading after another one finished. No problems downloading the games so far. The speed is good as well.
4. The download list (the one that pops up when you press the button in the left bottom corner) starts popping up out of the blue.
5. Between downloads (and not only, but most between) you cannot scroll the list under my library using your cursor, only the wheel works.
6. On rarely occasions the client looses window focus when download starts or ends.
7. Trying to uninstall Warsow(first game I uninstalled) trigged the MS Visual Studio C++ 2012 Redistributable installation. Might be caused by the fact that I already have this version installed so I cancelled the installation when I installed the client.
8. It seams sometimes closing the client doesn't actually close it. It just hangs in task manager and prevents me from opening again. For the record, I use Norton 360 but I don't have this problem with any other program.
9. From time to time, closing and opening the client causes some weird behaviour (I'm not sure how to explain this so I guess a screenshot is better)

As for suggestions, there' s a huge list but I'll try to keep it simple.

1. Achievements
2. Chat/Friends list (I guess this will be added for multiplayer but still)
3. More view options (same for installed games section under My Library)
4. Classification system (categories)
5. Possibility to view and manage all DLCs (select what to install and the possibility to uninstall when the game is installed)
6. I guess this is already in works but...overlay and built-in browser(don't be Ubisoft on this pls)
7. Profile section/page
8. Maybe themes support??
9. The possibility to keep the setup files as well as the possibility to download but not install

I'll update this if something shows up.

Not all games showing up is a known error, not all GOG games are currently compatible with Galaxy.

And to both of you, bugs and feature requests are to be reported to mantis.gog.com. Simply double check that they have not already been reported/suggested using the search function under the "view issues" section first.

Thank you :)

Not sure if this is a bug or not. May be intended behavior I just hope it is not.

I used galaxy to install a game. I then checked the download directory and the install files are not there?

If you install a game, the files don't stay in the download directory. They are moved to the game install directory.
