Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Back/Forward navigation in the Store section
- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store
- Option to Show Game Folder added to MORE menu
- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account
- Fixed some issues when installing and uninstalling DLCs
- Bugfix: client will now not allow dragging elements onto its window
- Fixed memory leaks, causing to crash the application when downloading lots of games
- Fixed a bug which was causing the client to crash on exit
- Fixed an issue, which sometimes caused the client to duplicate the news on game view

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

mike_cesara: Galaxy after update worked great for about two hours, only now keeps losing connection. I think it's temporary.

Thanks guys! thought it might be me
This might seem odd because of the way I manage my stuff (I back up my installers and extras onto an External HDD and then Install and copy over stuff when I want to use it) but would it be possible to add an option somewhere to copy/download the Extras and Installer (basically the stuff that the client currently puts into the Extras folder) of a game to a different pre-specified location ? I do like the idea of having the Extras folder in the GOG games folder for quick access to Extras for installed games but it doesn't really leave a convenient method for doing a mass up to date backup (you'd have to install the installer and extras and then copy that folder which would use a lot of space or set the install to an external hard drive which seems like it would be kind of risky for a client with an auto-updater).

Also since the client must download a game / update to do the auto-update would it be possible to add an option in settings that automatically copies those files into the appropriate Extras folder (to save on duplicate downloads) ?

Apart from that I'm pretty impressed.
So first impressions and feedback right now:

1 - it is a bit unresponsive at the moment. it lags a bit on my system.
2 - Related to 1, I do not particularity like how it splits the game library into pages. Especially with the lag, and I don't know if it goes to the page I clicked or, if I cliked wrong or something... I ended up clicking a lot around where the pages are...
3 - related to 1 and 2, I would like a few more options, for example when I arrange my library in a list view, I would like to tell it how many games I would like to see on each page. And all games in one list if that is what I want. I would not mind if the list view had only the games in a list, without the icons. .
4 - The ribbon bar on the left feels redundant, my games are in my library, and I am never seeing myself actually using that one.
5 - Downloading and installing seems to be working fine, did a several now in a queue and while opening a game. However, I would like to see which games are downloading right now (a download tab? with options to pause or stop downloads?)
6 - Likewise, I would like a tab with only installed games. A little bit more filtering options, maybe.
7 - I would not mind it if the client can be minimised to the tray only, especially when only downloading games.
8 - I would not mind if the client scans the folder I set up to install the games to, as I have to re-download and install the games I already have installed.

Other than that, is seems to be working nicely so far.

Moobabe: Thought I'd test a download to poke around in the client - but when I do my client keeps "losing" connection to GoG and saying my internet has cut, which it hasn't.
Please head to http://mantis.gog.com and file an issue report. Make sure to attach your logs (you will find instructions how to do that).

This is precisely the role of the sidebar - to give you quick access to all installed games. In future we will add more ways to customise it though, to make it even more universal and fitting different user flows.

As for the remaining topics
- I'd suggest posting in mantis.gog.com about performance issues together with some more details regarding OS used, hardware and etc.
- other suggestions should also go to mantis - some of these are already there (minimise to tray for example)

Thanks for the feedback!

mike_cesara: Might be. Nothing to worry about since I can still run already installed games ; ) Also client reconnect itself.
This should not be happening - per Venom recommendation below, please post your logs into mantis.

No worries, I will head over there if I find something more to say :)

But will just answer this right now here (or I will get very confused...). I guessed the left ribbon is taking place for installed games and downloads, but the problem is that this should be the 'main' window, and it is just to cramped over there on the left side.

I have to agree there
It would be cool to sort the library by installed only and if the installed games had a green Play Button and didnt just say installed.

So you could just click it and play the game.

Btw already liking the client more than UPlay and Origin :) And its only Alpha.

Do you mean playing games when offline? ; )
Already posted in mantis, however seems to work fine after second restart of the client.
Where do I report issues such as bugs/complaints? I don't see any report button and I haven't been contacted in any way.

no complaints though ; ))
Just been trying out galaxy and all seems good. Is there a way to stop it creating a shortcut every time you download a game from it? I know it's not exactly hard to delete one but it's just some small thing that would be nice. And perhaps a back button when you click on games in the store that takes you back to the previous page and to the spot on that page you were on.
They're both requested.

Shortcut-freedom: http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=977
Back button: http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=1283 and http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=1275

Shortcut settings as well as many other features weren't introduced yet. As for back button, feel free to use backspace key for the tiem being.
The homepage view in the client switched to german for me (although I didn't pay attention if it was in german from the beginning). It would be nice to be able to switch languages inside the client.

EDIT:
I see there's already an assigned ticket for that:
