Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

ipickert55: I can't seem to download Outlast for Mac, as soon as I click install, just tells me that the download failed due to server problem.
Please report to http://mantis.gog.com

zarosio: hi so with the new update if I have already downloaded and installed a gog game in the past I just need to go to the game and click import folder (in the glaxy program) for it to be able to launch from within the program right?
yeah, do note not all games are supported yet. It will add them but you won't get the time tracking and all that it would be like adding a non-steam game to steam.

Assuming by "downloaded and installed" you mean downloaded earlier, before GOG Galaxy then yes - "Import folder" will dp the trick and add the game to the Client :)
great thanks. GOG Galaxy seems really good so far cant wait for the rest of the features to be rolled out. Just added one of my games and it worked great!
Thanks for the replies, everyone.

Destro: There are two ways to import existing GOG game installations into the Client:

1. For games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining games
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.
I just tried using the "Scan and Import Folders" option, and out of the 201 games I currently have installed, Galaxy recognized 40, even though I've used the default install folder for all games. I guess I'll have to be patient or add the rest manually.

As for the other two points, I'm looking forward to further improvements to navigation and library functionality.

Here are two other things I've noticed:
1. Ten games in my library are displayed as "Not yet available" (even though they are), and I can't install them through Galaxy.
2. In Windows 7, if you snap the Galaxy window to the left or right half of your screen, a second scroll bar for the library will appear.

the not yet available means that they are not officially supported by the client yet.
Just downloaded it!

I customized the download folder, downloaded and installed Stargunner and all went just fine!

I noticed a couple things too:

Download progress is not shown in the taskbar button (I'm on Windows 8.1)

The use of libcef (Chromium) makes the ram usage to skyrocket, Firefox Gecko engine is more optimized and should be used instead.
one small feature I would like to request is when you click on your game in your library one of the options on the next page is a link to the store page for that game thanks.

These games are not yet available in Galaxy Content System, hence the "Not yet avaiable" label to explain lack of option for the installations and updating. Once we'll fix some issues with these, the label will be removed.

I believe it's related to window width - could you please report it to http://mantis.gog.com. Thanks!

It will be available via MORE button later on. For now it's accessible via Library - just hover on a game and click the little button in bottom right corner.

Hi! So far I´m loving the GOG Galaxy client. However I already have made some observations of things that I believe GOG could improve in their client.

- Improve the Community Integration: GOG development team could certainly boost the potential of GOG Galaxy Client to become one of the major platforms just like Steam and Origin by following those advices
Create an ability to add friends and text message people in real time just like in Steam.
Add a tab called "community", just like there is one for store and Library, which in reality would only be a link to be able to access GOG forums but in GOG´s client instead of it being on an internet browser. I know that you can already do that on GOG Galaxy however its not so easy to find since you have to go to your username and then forum replies and then community(SEE HOW MESSY AND CONFUSING IT GETS?).

Also it looks like Alien vs Preador is dead after the multiplayer beta testing of GOG, I hope it will resssurect again :I

So far thats all.
I had a problem with this new version. Two of my installed games, Divinity: Original Sin, and Pillars of Eternity appear with the status "UNKNOWN GAME VERSION" instead of "Installed". Both of them were installed using a previous version of the Galaxy client. There is no verify/repair option in the "More" button in the game page.
I could get Pillars of Eternity to be recognized by reinstalling it from the library page but now there isn't any option to manage DLC like there was in the previous version of the client. Divinity Original Sin appears as installed in the library page so I can't reinstall it.

Please post this suggestion on http://mantis.gog.com. I don't use Win myself but it does make a lot of sense :)

Well there are many versions of CEF so it's not just black & white issue, but indeed it does love ram generally speaking. Ultimately, it is a matter of balancing between "instant responsiveness" when switching between store / library / installed game and "ultimate optimisation" if RAM usage would be the holy grail above all else. Depending on your config, priorities also do depend :).

All in all, right now the CPU usage is fairly nice (and by no means it's not the best we can get :) while the memory usage compensates for responsiveness but it's not perfect. We do have some ideas when it comes to optimising it and we will be keeping this on the agenda. The plan is that we do improve it with every few updates. Making sure it plays nice with your system is very important to us.

they are planning on adding that, this is just a closed alpha meant to test a few features of the client the fancy stuff like achivements, friends lists and the like will more then likely be in by time they are launching into Beta
My username is normally entirely in lowercase, but in the right upper corner of the client, it's entirely written in uppercase.
I'd like to see that fixed D:

Edit :
When I clicked on "Community Discussions", it has opened a new tab on my internet navigator and has redirected me to https://embed.gog.com/forum.

It is an issue with all DLC-featuring games previously installed with the Client. Sadly you will have to re-download these.
