Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

agylardi: This one. I experienced this problem too and was kind of shocked. I thought it is just a bug. And then I was suspecting "Rollback" feature (More > Configure). It lists the recent version release of Terraria. Perhaps it tries to download all the version completely which make the size of the download many times of the original installer. Even so, it is only listing 5 recent updates which make 130 MB x 5 = only 650 MB. I don't know from where the rest 200 - 300 MB is.

(Can someone from GOG explain this ? This case is really strange)

Or perhaps... this case just a misconfiguration at the server side. Because I don't know any other games in similar case. Still don't use Galaxy much. Furthermore, after this case I think I'll just Galaxy to make it updated until it is really ready.
The only problem here is that Galaxy is directly downloading the installation files (800+ MBs), rather than the standalone installer itself (133 MBs). The game's installation indeed requires 800+ MBs, both on GOG and on Steam.

Do you mean when the game is installed the size would be 800+ MBs ? But in my installed Terraria folder, it only shows around the same as the installer size ~ 130 MBs.

If so, how about other games ? do Galaxy also download the game's installation files ?

You probably don't have the latest version installed. The latest one requires over 800+ MBs (see images below).

Yes. For instance, Blackguards' standalone installer is 5+ GBs, but it requires 18+ GBs for installation (and so does Galaxy for downloading).

Ah. I see. You're right. I have downloaded the installer version 2.3.0.5 but haven't installed it yet. I tried and it shows 838 MB of installation size.

Hmm. What makes the game size suddenly jumped to that size ? it was still around 130 MBs in the previous version.

That just... would really hurt my internet quota. So they changed how the Galaxy works, or that is how the Galaxy works ? I prefer Galaxy download the installer and then install the game using that. Perhaps instead of separate option to download standalone installer, Galaxy would by default download the installer.

and thank you for your explanation. Now that all 800 MBs update is make sense.

I think it had to do with the uncompression of the game's images or something like that.

Ever since I started using Galaxy (around May), clicking the "Install" would directly download all the installation files, so I can safely say that the Galaxy Beta was always like that. Since you seem to have limited bandwidth, I recommend that you avoid using Galaxy's "Install" function and instead download all your installers through Galaxy's "Get Backup and Extras" feature.

Will do. I currently still use GOG downloader for downloading the game. The old ways is still good for me. Update and Install function often still stuck at "getting file list" at my side. I submitted a ticket of that problem on mantis.gog.com but I am afraid I just adding noise (well, it is marked as solved by them though)

exosquadron: So, interesting thing about Terraria; I figured maybe something was wrong with my files or such, which is why the update was so massive compared to what the game is. So I uninstalled it, and when I went to reinstall, suddenly a game that says its file size is 130 MB requires 940MB to download.

What on earth?

I downloaded the installer seperately, since that was only 130MB. But when I installed that, it said it needed the 900MB+ space for it. Very odd.
GOG devs: I understand why Galaxy downloads a pre-installed copy of games when we install them and the technical benefits of doing so in theory. Many have pointed out however and I've observed myself that at the present moment this causes Galaxy to download a significant amount more data from GOG's servers than if one were to download the game installer backups and install locally by hand manually, and that this is due to the standalone installers being compressed and the files that Galaxy downloads not being compressed.

My question is whether this is intentional and how it will always be, or if you plan on implementing some form of compression or another on the data payload in the future on-the-fly? For example using http compression on the webserver side of things so that all files downloaded are automatically compressed with gzip on the webserver and decompressed in the web client on the customer end. This could potentially cause the webservers to become far more busy as they read uncompressed files from disk and compress them over and over again for each customer, but that process could likely be cached server side I'm sure either by existing webserver side tech, or by something whipped up to do the job.

I'm just curious if the plan is to have this transparently compressed/decompressed at some point and any other information about the process you might be willing to share. Even if it's just "yeah we plan to compress things in the future but have not yet decided the specific details or have a specific timeframe, but it will happen at some point".

Thanks in advance.

Am I the only one who kind of thinks GOG is going about the updates the wrong way? We are nearly what 2 months now without a significant feature or patch in sight, which I can only assume is because GOG wants to release a big patch with many features at one time. Only reason I can see it taking this long to get in some of the features that have been requested and are marked in progress, which should not have taken this long to implement.

I really think GOG should focus on releasing 1 or 2 highly requested features at a time followed up by a week or 2 of nothing but bug fixing, then move on to another feature. This would decrease the time were waiting for features that we could be testing, and also allow bugs to actually get fixed rather than 2 months of sitting here with a buggy client and only a few fixes here and there.

The way it is now we will just end up eventually with another patch down the road that will add many new features at one time, fix some things and probably in the process break even more stuff.

Thoughts? xD

Oh. I misread your post. I thought you also updating through Galaxy. Well, yes, as Grargar explained above, the latest Terraria installer is sized as before (around 130 MBs) but when it is installed, the size will be around 900 MBs.

It seems the developer made some changes to how they use assets in the game (usually between compressed and non-compressed music or images) -which makes the installation size jumped to that size. In the other hand, the developers doing a really good job where they could make the installer size still small, while the installation size got that big.

Anyway, I should read this thread before I ask something again here.
For some reason Galaxy corrupts my Outlast installation. Not exactly sure what goes wrong and will try to reproduce the error this weekend. In the meantime I'd like to know if anybody else is experiencing an installation corruption for this game?

Nah, you read it right. I tried the seperate installer option after denying the update through Galaxy. Us with data caps have to be smart with our precious MBs, after all ;)

Yes, we plan on having the downloaded files compressed as well as hope to additionally introduce delta updating for the patching in Galaxy. Both should ultimately lead to even smaller updates than standalone ones on the website. However this is not something we're ready to talk about yet in details but it's definitely on the list.
I'm diggin' Galaxy so far with some help with the friends list it'll be even more awesome

I fully understand your point. However, it is a bit more complicated than just us full time working on some major stuff for weeks while artificially withholding features and not doing anything beyond that ;-)

The last few weeks were a mix of many hotfixes and improvements that we had to address in the first place - nothing brings as much bug reports, feedback and knowledge as generating download bandwidth with the help of TW3 that is close to average Gbps of entire Steam :) - hence we went from 1.0 to 1.0.5... However it's not only development or hotfixing that took its toll, as the team was also busy and worked super had preparing to release The Witcher 3, its updates and DLCs and then supporting it across hundreds of thousands of PC players alone who at once stormed our servers (and I'm happy how it all went, as it was a very smooth launch with no downtimes of any key service considering the scale which was times bigger than any peak we ever had since the beginning of GOG). Finally and most importantly, we also do work quite a lot with supporting various devs and publishers behind the scenes, who also take note of Galaxy and who thanks to Galaxy SDK are much more likely to maybe release something on GOG now (and having Galaxy out and being around E3 there is a lot happening :).

Having this said and coming back to small vs big updates and whatnot
- yes, we're working on something bigger aka 1.1 that will include some features I'm sure a lot of users will be happy about but also quite some changes under the hood (for example on OSX I'm seeing few times smaller CPU usage than in 1.0.x). Now, it's not some artificial decision to make such bigger updates from time to time as some features are interconnected, some are not as trivial as it may seem and finally some while not necessarily visible on the outside must be done simply to pave way for few requested things and/or to avoid building technical debt. All of this side, pushing a bigger update every now and then has a much bigger chance of spreading the news to more users, but marketing is not something that what we wrap our development around :).
- yes, it takes time, because we want to release 1.1 update in much better and polished shape instead of breaking stuff as you suggested (I might be idealistic here because there is always some regression hidden here or there, but we've recently changed a lot in the QA process of the Client to make the testing and bug fixing process much more effective and we want to take the time to deliver it in a good shape - I hope it will become more and more visible within the coming months)
- last but not least, we're thinking of releasing to the community preview versions before such major (finalised) updates. I'm not sure if it will happen for 1.1 already, but it is definitely the plan, so the most active users will be able to testdrive new features, give feedback and receive updates much more frequently.

Cheers!
