no to any sort of update, modernization, etc. For those of us who aren't webdesigners or insecure crowd-followers, and who look at things from a functionality perspective, no website has EVER improved by updating to a "modern" design. Unless you count more data collection and targeted ads to you as an "improvement."
paladin181: You're so right. All those security upgrades that protect users data and prevent spam and the like are so unnecessary. They've never fixed anything by upgrading software. It's all a scam. /s
The context of my comment should have made clear I didn't mean "leave security vulnerabilities in place" but my apologies for not mentioning that exception. If GOG, or any site, was only fixing vulnerabilities and not changing features for the "better," I would approve.

eric5h5: For those of us who aren't worshippers of stone-age tech who are afraid of anything that's even slightly different, a million times yes to updating to a real forum. If you actually want to look at things from a functionality perspective, the GOG forums are a joke. Replying is garbage, quoting is garbage, formatting is garbage, notifications are broken, attachments are a joke, etc. I don't know 100% for sure what tools the moderators have, but looking at circumstantial evidence, the mod tools are also garbage. It's a bizarre and frankly ignorant reaction to assume that a modern forum somehow must have ads, blinking lights, animations, and so on. I'm on several that are pretty much just text and avatars. You don't seem to realize that proper forum software can be customized; it's not all hard-coded like the GOG forums. If the forum admins don't want extraneous bling, then there won't be any.
"Different"? Modern web design isn't "different." It's been bloated garbage for over a decade now.
You are correct that, in theory, a forum upgrade need not follow the worst of modern design.
However, I think it is incorrect to assume GOG won't follow the worst of modern design. Isn't this the place that tried to institute auto-playing videos for our convenience, as well as opt-out mandatory profiles where people could search you by your email address? Hell, even the Galaxy apologists complain that the new version of the client here is inferior to the previous one. For years, one of the means to log in to this site and forums was to use Facebook. Facebook and Google are "trusted." God help any users who clear their history/cache/cookies because now they have to use Google Craptchas clicking on all images of a bodega just to access their account. I could go on. I mean seriously, what about this place makes you think a forum upgrade will be done in a manner that is user-friendly?
