My experiences with GFWL and a few other DRM systems are the major reasons I very much prefer GOG.

musteriuz: Thanks for the replies so far. It seems as if I'll have to wait until it's available here on gog because there is no ways I am moving it into a Steam account. Unless someone can tell me where I can find a safe fan-made no CD patch to download to remove the GFWL check in my game, or however those things work.

johnnygoging: have you tried everything here?

PS: Steam isn't so bad. Gaben cares. Why do you shut Gaben out?
I must admit that I have extremely limited technical ability. I can't make head or tails of that page. Will anything there be the thing I have to do to get my game working without any Steam involvement whatsoever?
GFWL is still in working condition. Your problem is probably because of Windows version, 8 and above have issues with the GFWL client.

So, how would I go about playing Fallout 3 (GFWL version) if I would want to finish the DLCs some day AFTER upgrading to Windows 10? (Will do that soon)

ET3D: IIRC it's even DRM-free on Steam, so once you get that version you don't have to worry about services closing.
You do have to know about the -nosteam command line parameter (I think that's what you put) otherwise it will be expecting Steam. I've backed up the files and run it this way a couple of times in new environments so it does indeed work. Doesn't work for Arkham City unfortunately, just AA.

I have at least two GFWL games on my laptop that started as a windows 8.0 laptop and is now a Windows 10 laptop. They are still working fine as near as I can tell. I do think there were issues that may have required some update way back when, but GFWL does work. You might look the game up to see if there are any specific issues for it, but it's been good for me so far. My experience isn't necessarily going to be your experience, but I wouldn't be overly concerned about your options. You, for sure, aren't the only one that will have tried to get F3 going on Windows 10.
there is a gfwl emulator and it runs both batman games
Cheers!

Good to hear :-)

Can you perhaps tell me where to find it, please?

musteriuz: Hi all,

I tried, unsuccessfully, to play my Batman Arkham Asylum game today, apparently because Games for Windows Live has closed. Is there any way in which I'll still be able to play it and Arkham City in future?

Regards.
GFWL is still up, you just need to download the latest GFWL client and install it:

http://www.xbox.com/live/pc/downloadclient

The old client versions that come with these games don't install/run properly anymore.

That's how it worked with FO3, anyway.

Edit: You might have to make sure you remove the old versions before installing the new one.

I played Fallout 3 (on Steam, that also requires GFWL) from start to finish for over 270 hours without using GFWL and without any issues using this GFWL replacement:

http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Bulletstorm#Play_without_Games_for_Windows_-_LIVE

It's easy to use, just extract where the binaries of the game are (EXEs), and you can also customize its INI file. No extra modifications are required (unlike the Games for Windows LIVE Disabler for Fallout 3). It works for other GFWL games as well (to play campaigns and single player. To play online modes you must install the latest version of GFWL instead).

For Fallout 3, just make sure the DLC files (BSAs & ESMs) are inside de DATA folder in Fallout 3.

GFWL hasn't gone anywhere and works fine, same as it always has. Your particular game has been converted to Steamworks, and can also be redeemed there. If you can not connect to GFWL, you should troubleshoot and fix your own personal computer issue first, instead of trying to crack your game. If you are using Win 8 or newer, you need to uninstall any old versions of GFWL, and install the latest version of GFWM on xbox.

GFWL is not closedi , they have disabled the store only , you can still play your gfwl games, just download the latest version of gfwl and install it first , create a account/ login to your existing account and then install the gfwl game

Nah, cracking a game you've purchased is always a good alternative to trying to appease the clients and DRM that just give you shit.

blotunga: I wish UWP would suffer the same fate asap.
It seems we can never truly relax. There's always something new that's trying to wrestle control away from the user :(
