Aren't you mixing things up? The message you quoted is from giftcode redeeming page and I really doubt it has anything to do with going online using Galaxy client.
It absolutely has everything to do with going online with galaxy. I have the latest version of Galaxy and it did all it's updates.

So explain to me why when I launch Grim Dawn that someone GIFTED to me, and I select Join multiplayer from the main menu, I get a message telling me I need to go online with Galaxy to play this online. When I try to go online with Galaxy gives me the enter promotional code message which cannot be by passed or opted out of.

Major flaw with the promotional message is that I'm posting this message FROM/THROUGH GALAXY which means I'm already online with Galaxy. So why is it telling me I need a promotional code to get online while already being online.

Who wrote this crap!

Destro: The scenario you've outlines should appear only when trying to connect a locally installed game to GOG Galaxy (to take advantage of features like auto updates / achievements / goodie downloads) but the game is not on the account logged into Galaxy - in such case gog.com/redeem page is displayed.

JMich: I thought this was the message displayed, was it changed? Granted, that is from August of 2015, but I haven't had a chance to test it since :/
Nope - currently if you don't own the game, Galaxy goes into offline mode for that title. TW3 might be an exception for the rule as it had custom text on its game view. Then, when you click Connect, you get to redeem page, as OP described.

I do own the game because someone gifted it to me. Besides how I got the game has nothing to do with Galaxy require promotional codes just to get online with it. Which is the point.

I'm done with this topic now before any more stupid comments get posted by ignorant people that want to keep making excuses and exceptions to this piss poor garbage of a program.

I don't need a damn promotional code to go online with a service which has nothing to do with the game just to use a game that was gifted to me.

GOG is forcing people to use promotional codes and such, just to be allowed to access the online portion of GALAXY that is already online.

You do need the game registered to your account though in order to use said game's Galaxy features
HEY, there is no call for that!

The real question is whether it was redeemed and on which account. Because if you're logged into Galaxy and playing from the account you're typing from here... well, let me to stop there because I won't be publicly discussing your account details but let me assure you that the Galaxy is working as intended.

Now, if you own a game on a different account, please login to that account in Galaxy or contact our support and they will be happy to help you. The message asking for entering product code you're experiencing is only supposed to happen if you try to connect to Galaxy an installed game which you do not have on your account.

So let me get this straight. You imported an installation of this game that you previously didn't own (I assume it's how you got the game 'gifted' to you since you mentioned not using the code) without redeeming the code to register ti on your account?

GOG has used codes to gift games since day 1. That's how they register your games to your account so that you can re-download it again and receive support, and it's with your account that Galaxy manages your game.

I guess Galaxy really does requires a manual.

Fix Galaxy by
- removing everything from it that has anything to do with installation, patching or deinstallation of games
- just using it for multiplayer connections / servers
- adding "Don't Starve Together"
- porting it to Linux with open source

Time to write GOG Galaxy for dummies? Those books existed for a reason.
