In detail games WITH uncensored symbols are allowed, if they do NOT glorify the 3.Reich. And how many games would fall under those exception? Not many, all normal titles should fall under the new "uncensored" guidelines.

Yeah, Bethesda-Games uncut, South Park uncut, COD: WII uncut, all are a possibilty now. But what will the publishers do? Remake//patch them and give them to the USK uncut, to receive an uncut classification? Sell them again?

And what about OLD titles? Like "Commandos", "Wolfenstein 3D", "Return to Castle Wolfenstein"? The new USK guidelines are good for new titles, but what about the oldies? :(

I hope the publishers remember their old titles and do something with the new guidelines...

I dont think a ton of publishers are going to have the appetite to dig up older games and add accurate Nazi symbols to spite a censorship battle thats already over.

Usually, the normal international original version have 3.Reich symbols.
Only censored Germany version did not have them.

Do they even call Nazi Germany the "Third Reich" over there? Wouldn't that be buying into the Nazi ideology that their regime was a successor state to the Holy Roman Empire and German Empire?

if i'm reading that right they are only changing their position from categorically denying an age rating if there are nazi symbols in the game to allowing exceptions from that rule on a case-by-case basis.

Nice. Always thought it was silly that games get an instant ban while "high art" cinematic masterpieces like Iron Sky are of no concern. But I agree with immi101, let's wait and see how strict they judge them.

For me personally the symbol changes were less annoying than only having the german dubbed audio versions in those games affected, if we finally get access to the english Wolfenstein games id consider buying them.

Sounds good on paper, but I remain sceptical whether it will cause publishers and stores to actually change anything about the game that are already out.

It came up during my studies of German, and you're right to a degree. I've been taught to never use the term "Drittes Reich" without quotation marks. But that is in no way an autoritative rule or even wide spread, I'd assume. There already is plenty of irony in still using the term today – what Hitler thought of as an empire that would last a thousand years didn't make it through year eight.

1933-1945=12 years. "Drittes Reich" as a term didn't just start to get used with the beginning of WW2.
