Navagon: Does anyone know how UFO Extraterrestrials compares to the real thing? I've been playing a lot of the other UFO games recently (on GOG) so that offer seems tempting.

trusteft: From what I have read (I don't have it), it plays like a younger wannabe clone of the original. Better graphics etc, but, not fighting on Earth, far less micromanagement (each lab comes with stock number of scientists), unlimited free or undying soldiers or something like that.
Basically a remake which tried too much to be both a remake and different enough.
My main issue with it is that it doesn't take place on Earth, which kind of ruins it for me.

acare84: Gamersgate is making official space battle week. Good deals.

taczillabr: Some good space games there, not perfect, but good. Also they are selling Flotilla for $5, Impulse for $6, Steam for $9.
Anyone here played Genesis Rising and Light of Altair? How good are they?
avatar
taczillabr: I have Genesis Rising, but I haven't tried it yet. I heard it is very good but hard game. I think you have a mothership which you upgrade between missions, plus some other ships and you fight in a branching missions campaign, battles. It sure looks good and I need to install it one day lol.
I never managed to make Light of Altair DEMO install without issues, so I don't know. You can try the demo and find out for yourself.

Been a while since I played ET without BMan's mod (the Gold version, technically), but I don't think you had infinite soldiers. Had to go with smaller teams a few times after screwing up. That being said, I don't think you could manually buy your soldiers.
That being said:
Compared to After*, insanely faithful and hardcore XCOM game.
Compared to XCOM itself, your mileage may vary. Good game that I love (and there are plenty of mods that make it even more XCOMy), but it is a sequel to a game that a lot of people wanted a sequel to. So no matter what, people will complain.

Yeah, that's a very odd choice. A part of the appeal of XCOM was the defence of the Earth.

I think the upcoming prequel is going to be set on Earth :p

Ah, I think I'll be best off waiting for that one then. Reading up on it, it seems like they've taken criticism of the first one on board, which is always a good thing.
Aliens vs Predator $24.98

Only 2 hours left, hurry up. ;)
Man, AI Wars package from the Gamersgate sale looks VERY tempting. I've been playing the demo these past days and I'm amazed at the depth of the game. Too bad I'll only get paid now next month and 30 dollars will be too much for me.

Balthier: and 30 dollars will be too much for me.

It's $11.95 there, you know. Not even 20 reais. Buy it, you'll be glad you did. ;-)
Portal is free for Windows and Mac until May 24th.

This is not as cool as paying whatever you want for 6 games, releasing the source code for 4 of them and being able to play them on Windows, Mac and Linux but is a close second :P
