Here's one: classic Wizardry. Specifically, Wizardry 1, 2, 3, and 5, and some Japanese Wizardrylikes.

The problem is the save system, specifically the way the game constantly auto-saves, so you can't reload if something bad happens. Given that these games aren't always fair, this can be extremely frustrating. In fact, this problem is bad enough that I will only play these games with savestates.

This problem is not present in Wizardry 4, 6, and 7, and is optional in 8 (it only applies to Iron Man mode, which I can simply avoid playing).

Incidentally, Wizardry 6 and 7, to me, are ruined by ugly growth mechanics (particularly the way base miss chance works).

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention: The way it feels sometimes, under certain circumstances the game will randomly delete your characters and it is *not* a bug. (NES Wizardr 2, trip a teleporter trap on B5F? Good chance you will have to say good-bye to your party unless you reset the game before it saves.)

Sabin_Stargem: The gesture system in Arx Fatalis. I am not very good at it, nor is my short-term memory. To say the least, I find casting spells to be a pain.
In recent dev snapshots Arx Libertatis has a new rune drawing recognition system which should work better.

viperfdl: M.A.X. - turn limits
That can be turned off though
Sid Meier's Sim Golf - only playable in 4:3

How's that for, "Gamies Ruined By One Aspect?"

We got aspect ratio jokes here, people! Get em while they're still steaming dog doo!

For the campaign missions?
Wizardry 6 (7) - no user-friendly layouts for its maps

Bio Menace - level design

Gothic I - horrendous controls

Yes I'd also like to know. If it wasn't for the turn limit then I might actually have gotten past the first level :P

Now that I think about it, Starbound is a worse game because of the main quest line.
Ninja Gaiden 3 - Wasn't created by master ninja Tomonobu Itigaki.

Major problem. Button prompts in a Ninja Gaiden game... ridiculous.

I have played (but never owned) some of that game in the past, and have even watched a speedrun of that game, but I don't remember there being any button prompts.

Or did someone decide to release a new game under the *exact same title* as an older game?

SpooferJahk: The first two Turok games on the N64, some control oddities and the HORRENDOUS framerate in the second game even in Low Res mode. I am thankful for Night Dive's remasters of the games because they are much more playable than the original N64 versions.
The original N64 Turok has a bizarre control scheme. Ever play some Turok and then switch to Goldeneye? You'll be strafing around a bit unintentionally.

Maybe your thinking of the old side scroller Ninja Gaidens, or maybe mixing up 1, 2 and 3. I just saw a gameplay video of NG3 yesterday, press square pop ups. Maybe you can turn it off, I dunno. It's definitely not Ninja Gaiden Black or Ninja Gaiden 2 that's for sure.

Yup, for any mission. Camapign, single scenerio, custom game and training missions. When you select the mission you want to play, you'll be taken to the attached screen and can turn the turn time limit off there

I got annoyed by the time limit in the campaign as well as in some missions you have a ton of unit and no time to move them. Turning off the time limit made the game so much more enjoyable

I am thinking of the old sidescrollers, because the Ninja Gaiden 3 I remember was a sidescroller on the NES.

I find that it can be confusing when a developer re-uses the name of an older game for a newer game; people still play older games! (Granted, I haven't played any Ninja Gaiden in decades, but I did play them (especially NG2) growing up.

Anyway, I can think of another classic game series ruined by one aspect; in Mega Man 4 through 6, you can't get any password that takes you anywhere past the start of the first castle, and there is too much game after that to complete in one sitting. Even worse, the game lets you continue (after a game over) past that point, so why not let the player save?

Arc the Lad 2 has a similar issue: One dungeon took me nearly 2 hours to complete without any save points, which I consider to be *way* too long. There is a point in that dungeon where you can rest, so why not let the player save there?

It does, but I switched it to use the dpad to move and strafe. Works fine in Turok 2, but with Turok 1, either it is my controller being weird or the game itself, but many times I accidentally do Tal Set's side dodge and fall of ledges unintentionally. It gets pretty annoying very fast.
