ShadowWulfe: Are there any ways to... improve the interface for the original Jagged Alliance?

I tried playing it a long time ago and I felt like I was playing a flight simulator.
it'll grow more familiar after alittle time, and not too much time I think

just hang with it, you'll be rewarded

I remember getting frustrated with how unhelpful the manual was for outlining basic functions, I can deal with the "this was clearly designed by engineers with no eye for user interface", but the manual was something like 50 pages and had no section on necessities like feeding water to my squadmates.

Edit: A separate endorsement of Away Team, I thought it was really tough, but I ended up loving it. Don't listen to all the hate you'll read about it, it's a great game, just expect to fail a lot of missions.

S2:Silent Storm would also be a good choice.

Turn based combat, squad based and still nice graphics which do not demand high requirements from your CPU/graphics card.

It is a fictional WW2 setting, so not set in the future like XCOM.

tinyE: Are my posts showing up? :P If not, I can't really blame GOG for finally implementing that. XD
It's because you have been banned

Dash95: Hello guys anyone know games like Commandos/Desperados, RTS/Real-Time?
Funny, just several weeks ago I was going to post a similar thread.

Anyway, Commandos-like real-time games not yet mentioned here:

On GOG

Soldiers: Heroes of World War II
Soldiers was followed by the Men of War series (also on GOG). I haven't played any of the MoW games but to my understanding they are far less similar to Commandos than Soldiers is.

Not on GOG

Korea: Forgotten Conflict
It's much better than it appears in the video but I ended up not playing it too much, don't exactly remember why. You definitely don't have to play it in smurf mode like the guy in the video (with textured characters, I mean).

Chicago 1930
Also from the creators of Desperados and Robin Hood.

Shadow Company
Pretty much middle-ground between Commandos and Jagged Alliance - it has open combat but it also allows you to stealthily kill enemies like in Commandos. It may be very hard to find, though. And it's probably much worse than I remember it.

LOVE this game.

tinyE: LOVE this game.
Sadly I never got to try it. The reviews I read were pretty negative but I'd still gladly give it a shot. Hope it will also become available here eventually.

Next to Commandos it is kind of boring, but it really really really soaks up the stereotypical gangster movie stuff with the music, big suits, and dialogue. Plus you get to beat the shit out of people with baseball bats. :P Mind you, that's ALL YOU DO, so it can get a little monotonous if that isn't your thing. :P
I recommend Halfway, it's an easy-to-learn streamlined squad TBS with moody pixel art and a Blade Runner style soundtrack. No idea why this game isn't popular around here, one of my favorite games from recent years.

S2: Silent Storm. Not similar to Commandos but very good game. If you like TRPGs, I recommend it. Another good one is Fallout Tactics.

Glad to hear you're having fun with the game. Robotality just announced their next game a couple days ago:

Pathway: In Search of the Lost Element

Pathway will be released next year and I'm already excited about it. Love the 1930s setting. Looks amazing, I'm not easily swayed these days (haven't bought a game in over 6 months) but this will be a sure purchase if they release it on GOG which I'm most certain they will.

Interesting. I really should give Halfway another try. I really liked the little I played of it... and then I got distracted by newer shinies. Story of my gaming life. =/
Shadow Company but I don't know it it's any good. Looks fun though
