Tauto: Yep,don't come here with ideas or honesty as they just can't accept it.

BKGaming: It's a sad day in the GOG community when Tauto is the voice of reason in the thread. Damn.
Thanks for the input.

blotunga: We don't need those. I don't even need achievements...
We don't need a web browser that can run extensions/add-ons. It just needs to be able to display the content of the web. Everything else is unnecessary.

Oh my how the opinions switch. "But I need my adblocker and this and that and..." - No, you just *want* those things. And people *want* Galaxy to have features. GOG isn't doing anything important, contrary to popular belief of the zealots. They're underworked and overpaid.
You mean xp on galaxy being something like the rep points on forum?
I don't think that is necessary ... or maybe I'm missing something?
avatar
BKGaming: The forum is full of people who don't care for achievements and client software so you going to get flamed for this for no reason. The rest of us are enjoying Galaxy and these features to much to care.

I agree with you though, some kind of level up system would be nice. I've always preferred how Xbox and PS handle achievements, I actually like PS's level system and platinum trophies a little more.

That I don't agree with. The PlayStation level system was nice it was more like a RPG game within itself. I would like to see something like that. Each trophy made your level go up but it got harder the more levels you went up.

Maverick89: It's just an idea but the forum is full of internet warriors #facepalm.
By disagreeing with you makes people internet warriors?

What term we are left to use when someone scream using ALL CAPS, hurled inappropriate language, unload lewd photos?
avatar
tinyE: What are internet warriors?

Jesus, does anyone speak English anymore!? XD
Someone that fights verbally for whatever it is this time and have a very cocky attitude on the internet.
Basically that dude you know that get beat up a lot because he's a annoying, aggressive, know it all arsehole.

hummer010: I've never really understood the point of the achievements - seems like it's just a reminder that I did something in a game.

Having an experience points / leveling system based on the achievements seems even more pointless.
^This

If a game is going to have achievements I'd rather they were linked to something else (Like how they also sometimes unlock things in ToME and presumably add to your total score when your character dies)

I don't really care for levelling up a pointless number based on number of games bought and time spent playing. If it got you discounts on purchases or something I could get behind it, but I can't really see that being worth it for GoG.

GemCraft: Chasing Shadows is a very good example of how to use achievements. Unlocking them give you skillpoints you use to buy upgrades, and other are over 400 achievements in total.

You mean like in Dark Forces 2 (I think it was.) where you have to find secrets to get better force abilities? That sucked major poopsausage . Needing lots and lots of hours meticulously searching every level or a walkthrough for a major game feature. No_fucking_way!
Thoe whole caring about the leveling up and EXP reminds me of this comic. The Xbox part.

No, I'm thinking more about unlockable extras (new Classes and Races in ToME, or new ships in FTL). Haven't actually played Dark Forces 2, but I had heard about that and that's not the kind of thing I mean.

I just think if I'm going to be encouraged to kill 1000 goblins then I should get something more than a message saying "You killed 1000 goblins, yay!"

I'm pretty sure that introducing an actuall virtual penis that would grow with every purchase would increase sales a hundredfold.
avatar
tinyE: xp for what? I'm confused by the term.
avatar
hedwards: Replace XP with penis length and the meaning becomes clear.
Replace XP with "insidious gamification of consumerism as a means to subconsciously manipulate people to spend more money on your platform" and the meaning becomes crystal clear.

Must resist the urge to replace the forum rep with this in my script... XD
