I played a game on one of the Nintendo handhelds called Super Robot Taisen (spelling?) that was a fairly deep tactical mech game with a metric ton of strategies, gameplay mechanics, options, pilots, skills, equipment... you get the picture. ;)

I hope this ends up with some of the same - I hope they make good use of the small grid (is it really 8X8?). I'm not a fan of overly large maps in games like this, but that seems a bit tight. Subspace gets the benefit of the doubt from me though - loved FTL.

Go for teleporters. If you can unlock either of the ships (I think there are only two, but they might have added more in the advanced edition) with a four spot teleporter that's even better. Boarding parties are the best and easiest way to do well. You do need a little extra assistance to beat the last boss with a boarding run, but the boarders can still do a lot of damage to them if you've got a good set up.

oh...that name takes me back....I still remember how painful it was to 100% the game with those bonus boss battles
That is if you find them, almost always I had to play on a cousin's run with pure lasers and ony use advance level blasters with a bunch of laser droids and one weapon meant to surpass even level 2 shields and a EMP droid to just cripple it enough, even when I could cripple the boss's shield I had to bust my ass to keep every part of my ship under constant check ups so it wouldn't just get blown to pieces with their rocket launchers.

I see the boarding useless if I don't have a group of mantis aliens to send off, I mean, think about it, they destroy eVerything quickly and if their health goes down you can put them back to the meds. Holy hell I just noticed in the article that one of the player characters looks like Robbie Goddamn Rotten.......WE ARE NUMBER ONE
