morolf: Wow, the Last Dynasty...didn't think I'd see that game mentioned. I played it in the late 1990s, got quite far in the space combat part, but got stuck in the 3D adventure part. Tbh I thought already back then that the game sucked somewhat (especially the adventure part with its sterile atmosphere and stupid puzzles), but at least it was fun for a few hours.
You would be surprised, how many good space sims with nice story and interesting gameplay now completely forgotten. Two examples:

7. Star Crusader: http://i85.fastpic.ru/big/2016/1116/4f/1bbc27efcc0235a98ebea6a742a0474f.jpg

Space sim like Wing Commander with quite good graphics and interesting plot: humanity fights against an alien alliance of few races. If i remember correctly, humans are invaders (crusaders) who want to conquer new region of space with all alien races. Most interesting: in the middle of the game you can play Avatar: betray humanity and go to the aliens helping them fight for their independence. Many different missions, each race have their own types of spacecraft (which you can fly). Also, each wingman has its own portrait, story and phrases.

8. Phoenix - Deep Space Resurrection: http://i85.fastpic.ru/big/2016/1116/e1/6772e14eca8b9952c33a61db78b927e1.jpg

Very unusual freelance space sim, story and many other interesting things. At the start you just patrol craft pilot on fontier. If you encounter pirates you can engage them or evade. If you evade them - superiors might give you trouble. Or not, if this is covered up. Also you can chat with your wingman about his life, duties, life in galaxy - a lot of themes and dialogues very and would be a good addition to any RPG. And in the middle of game there is a "twist" after which player is sent to the warzone, but not a soldier - more like a "voulonteer"

War campaign is somewhat dynamic: you can fail mission or totally reject it - but it will have consequences. Briefing is more like overall goals and situation in galaxy - no one will thell HOW complete the mission. Missions vary from recon and strike to stealthy invasion into enemy HQ for info sabotage.

Graphics is nice, controls are awful, flight model is trying to be physically correct and that makes her very unusual.

dtgreene: StarTropics (NES): An interesting game which combines RPG-style exploration (but not combat) with Zelda 1 style dungeons. The game has its sense of humor; for example, in addition to Big Hearts (which raise your max HP), there is a useless item called the Big Apple to find. The game uses a chapter system, and there's a replay mode where you can replay any chapter you've reached. This game is infamous for the puzzle that is solved by dipping a physical letter that came packaged with the game into water.
I'm not sure about the other games on your list, but wasn't StarTropics just rereleased last week on the NES Classic Mini? I don't think that game is quite as forgotten as some of the other games listed so far.
How about:

ONI
A Third-Person Shooter/Beat-em up that was released in 2001.
Some gameplay.
Some Info.

I only assume it was forgotten, I don't see people talk about it a lot, and it's not available anywhere of course.
Crime Wave

Side-scrolling shooter, with 256 colors and RealSound technology.

Hard drive is necessary, in the age that many IBM PC clones have no pre-installed hard drive.

dtgreene: Some older console games that were interesting:

Magic of Scheherazade (NES): An action/RPG hybrid. You wander around fighting enemies in Zelda 1 style, but every now and then, a turn-based RPG style battle will occur. Interestingly enough, this game features combination attacks, a feature that didn't become mainstream in the JRPG genre until the likes of Phantasy Star 4 and Chrono Trigger. This game gives you 3 lives, just like many action games of the time; if the main character gets killed in an RPG-style battle (this can easily happen if an enemy formation uses an instant death combination attack against you and you get unlucky), the battle ends, you lose a life, and you see the screen showing how many lives you have left. There's also bread and mashroob, which are automatically used to restore HP or MP respectively when it runs out. In addition, Great Magic exists; these spells, which can only be cast during a solar eclipse and are forgotten once cast, are powerful; for example, the first Great Magic you get maximizes your gold and gives you the maximum quantity of many inventory items. The game has a chapter system; in each chapter, your level is capped, and once you beat a chapter, your level is automatically increased to that cap (if it isn't already).

Sword of Hope (Game Boy): An adventure/RPG hybrid. The game plays like an adventure game with an interface similar to Shadowgate (NES), but every now and then, you will notice dots on the part of the screen that shows where you can move. These dots represent monsters, and if you reach one of them (or one of them reaches you), you will be thrown into an RPG style battle. Interestingly enough, during battle, enemies will sometimes attack other enemies instead of you. The game got a sequel, which happens to be unbalanced in an interesting way; in normal encounters, it is necessary to use support and status magic to have a chance of winning.

StarTropics (NES): An interesting game which combines RPG-style exploration (but not combat) with Zelda 1 style dungeons.
Everything about this post is awesome, though I can't say i've ever played Sword of Hope.

Battle of Olympus on NES is another one that comes to mind. Basically Zelda II set in Ancient Greece.

Deception III on Playstation 1 is another one you don't really hear much about anymore. My best friend and I spent tons of time making and setting traps and trap combos in that game.

Tail of the Sun on Playstation 1 was probably the first survival and resource gathering game I ever played.
Only i have shouted about Cybermage like 10 times, over the last 2 years. There is even a community wishlist entry, have you signed up?

This is one of the grandfathers of the action/shooting games with RPG elements and one of the first games ever that allowed you enjoy vehicles in battle. For its time, it had very good graphics, but needed a high end machine and it was quite difficult as well, plus with a difficult learning curve. It is one of the good old classics of pc gaming and no mistake, it is a BRADLEY title, as well!

It would make for a perfect gog entry...

Then we have SUB CULTURE.
And the REAP.

We have been discussing those from time to time, they have been mentioned frequently from various GOG-ers in the close past. Just remember to sign the community wishlist!

Power DoLLS: Detachment of Limited Line Service

Cover: http://i88.fastpic.ru/big/2016/1225/96/a070d5b843942d4bcb747cbdc59b7196.jpg

Surprisingly good hexagonal TBS with: big customizable mechs, full team of girls mech pilots for you to command, aviation with fire support MRLS if you don't want some of them on battlefield, few aircraft tranports and multirole fighters, full squadron of girls aircraft pilots for you to command, a LOT of variuos weapons for mechs, aircraft and ammo types for MRLS. Almost each mission have two plans to choose for.

Gameplay is very fun for TBS. Graphics is nice. First game in series (over 6 games in total) was translated to english. The only bad thig is that game quite short - less than ten mission if i remember correctly. And that all other games in the series wasn't translated to english.
