There is many old great or just unusual games which now almost completely forgotten. Most interesting is that some of them was very popular back then. So, in this thread i, with your help, will try to bring back some long forgotten, but not bad games.

Let's start with a very unusual series by french company Cocktel Vision and published by Sierra.

1. Inca (1992): http://i84.fastpic.ru/big/2016/1101/9a/47890fc981c244b052f2959cc573619a.jpg

Very unusual game which combines: space combat simulator, adventure game and Incas dogfighting with Spanish spaceships in space and on different planets. Some levels are purely shooting, some have maze exploration, or include inventory-based puzzles or riddles. Very unusual mix of Inca, Spanish Conquistadors and SciFi.

2. Inca II Wiracocha (1993): http://i84.fastpic.ru/big/2016/1101/0e/2d96fbf3540f0f7010329b83b55d0d0e.jpg
Second part with better graphics and sound.

3. The Last Dynasty (1995): http://i84.fastpic.ru/big/2016/1101/3a/c0e21aa42db37179f4a116342f91db3a.jpg
The same gameplay (space combat/adventure puzzle levels) but this time story is completely different and much more generic. Two guys gets teleported into another SciFi realm. Graphics in much better with SVGA and FMV, sound and music are better too. But the game itself is less special than the Inca series.

And as a bonus:

4. Loadstar: The Legend Of Tully Bodine: http://i82.fastpic.ru/big/2016/1101/43/d1e3c68fec8052aa6f07af843a249243.jpg
The game about a train commander Tully Bodine and train's computer Mort(imer). Tully is looking for his last haul before rejoining his girlfriend. Local sheriff Wombley is looking to catch him in the act of something illegal. Tully finds and accepts a haul to convoy a cargo of contraband camels to Phobos for big cash and he as to hurry before Wombley catches him and throws him into jail. The game itself is an arcade where you ride along railway and shoot enemies. On a few occasions you can choose where to turn, but game is pretty liner. And long. And hard.

5. Grom: Terror in Tibet: http://i85.fastpic.ru/big/2016/1116/43/14a367f627ba3f01bfba33e0b6866943.jpg

Quite interesting game, somewhat like Gorky 17 but in different setting: World War II with a mix of X-Files and Indiana Jones. Nice Graphics, but bad controls.

interesting experience and weapons system. Unlike other RPGs, in Grom individual characters do not gain levels or experience points, but has a proficiency rating with each weapon. As a character uses a weapon, his proficiency increases and the weapon will do more damage, somewhat similar to Silent Storm system. Also range matters: rifles perform well at long-range but awful in short-range combat where you should use pistols.

Gold And Glory: The Road To El Dorado (2000)

I think most people don't remember this great adventure game based on the animated movie. I have so many fond memories of it.

Chasm: The Rift (1997)

Very interesting FPS game, while graphically wise looks like Quake and besides the bad english in some moments. It is perhaps the very 1st game which lets you dismember your enemies, which is also the core of the game in terms of survival. Bosses must be killed in different ways than just shoot.

Some older console games that were interesting:

Magic of Scheherazade (NES): An action/RPG hybrid. You wander around fighting enemies in Zelda 1 style, but every now and then, a turn-based RPG style battle will occur. Interestingly enough, this game features combination attacks, a feature that didn't become mainstream in the JRPG genre until the likes of Phantasy Star 4 and Chrono Trigger. This game gives you 3 lives, just like many action games of the time; if the main character gets killed in an RPG-style battle (this can easily happen if an enemy formation uses an instant death combination attack against you and you get unlucky), the battle ends, you lose a life, and you see the screen showing how many lives you have left. There's also bread and mashroob, which are automatically used to restore HP or MP respectively when it runs out. In addition, Great Magic exists; these spells, which can only be cast during a solar eclipse and are forgotten once cast, are powerful; for example, the first Great Magic you get maximizes your gold and gives you the maximum quantity of many inventory items. The game has a chapter system; in each chapter, your level is capped, and once you beat a chapter, your level is automatically increased to that cap (if it isn't already).

Sword of Hope (Game Boy): An adventure/RPG hybrid. The game plays like an adventure game with an interface similar to Shadowgate (NES), but every now and then, you will notice dots on the part of the screen that shows where you can move. These dots represent monsters, and if you reach one of them (or one of them reaches you), you will be thrown into an RPG style battle. Interestingly enough, during battle, enemies will sometimes attack other enemies instead of you. The game got a sequel, which happens to be unbalanced in an interesting way; in normal encounters, it is necessary to use support and status magic to have a chance of winning.

StarTropics (NES): An interesting game which combines RPG-style exploration (but not combat) with Zelda 1 style dungeons. The game has its sense of humor; for example, in addition to Big Hearts (which raise your max HP), there is a useless item called the Big Apple to find. The game uses a chapter system, and there's a replay mode where you can replay any chapter you've reached. This game is infamous for the puzzle that is solved by dipping a physical letter that came packaged with the game into water.
War Inc. (1997)

A C&C clone RTS with some nice twists.
First it has a stock market where gaining control of a corporation in a certain field will give you bonuses.
Second, you can design your own units (sort-of), still a very cool feature.

I was sure I had some games to contribute to this thread.

I forgot about them, honestly. :) But, i played both of them back then - Ween was very strange to me. :)
Rusty

A PC-98 game released only in Japan. Notable for being very similar to Castlevania: Rondo of Blood,, and predating Rondo's release by a couple of months.
I've never seen this mentioned when discussing old fps games:

Cybermage : Darklight Awakening

mobygames
gameplay

I never played it myself, but I remember seeing an advertisement for it in some gaming magazine, which looked madly impressive. An FPS with pilotable vehicles? Get out of here!
I'd love to try it myself some day, but I recall reading that it's really difficult to get it to work, though seeing as it's a dos game I'm not sure what exactly the problem could be. Dosbox for the most part works incredibly well.

Rusty is one of my favorite heroine, and the game is a masterpiece.
Here i brought you something very rare: A RUSSIAN SPACE QUEST!!!

6. Ivan Lozhkin: Price of Freedom: http://i85.fastpic.ru/big/2016/1116/59/2eef8eac0556087c813c414358993859.jpg

Was created back in 1997 and was greatly inspired by Space Quest 4 or 5. It was actually quite a nice game which tried to replicatet best SQ elements starting from graphics style to humor. Also it get bad sides too: pixelhunting was present in all its glory. :( Story is also somewhat like SQ: Ivan is student in Betelgeuse Academy named after Roger Wilco. Yep... :) And he spends more time sleeping than teaching. :) Sadly, it was never translated to English language or released outside Russia.

I tried it myself a year or two ago, and got it working. But like nearly all old orignal (not source ports) FPS it suffers from clunky controls. The enemy AI was also pretty bad.
With better controls and AI (or maybe more patience on the player's part) it could have been a decent proto Deus Ex.

Ah ok well that's good to hear. Perhaps I'll devote some saturday to checking it out. It does seem to have a bit of deus-ex-ish vibe yes, perhaps with a bit of Blake Stone mixed in.
Wow, the Last Dynasty...didn't think I'd see that game mentioned. I played it in the late 1990s, got quite far in the space combat part, but got stuck in the 3D adventure part. Tbh I thought already back then that the game sucked somewhat (especially the adventure part with its sterile atmosphere and stupid puzzles), but at least it was fun for a few hours.
