Recently there was an Insomnia Sale.
Outlaws was one of the games in said sale.
Some of you may have been away or asleep while the game was on sale.
Now is your chance to get it for free!

This is a giveaway of one (1) GOG copy of Outlaws + A Handful of Missions.

If you would like to participate, please state whether you are in or not, and tell me about one of your favorite westerns, whether it be a movie, game, book, etc.

I will announce the winner at some undetermined time in the future.

Not in, but +1!

Just to be heretical, I'll go with Firefly (Western in space) and Tampopo (Spaghetti Western about the proper preparation of ramen).
Oh I'm very in for that one. My fav Western is either True Grit or Rio Bravo. Quentin Tarantino likes Rio Bravo too. He once said, "When I start to get serious about a girl I show her Rio Bravo, and she better f***ing like it."
Very grateful for this chance. :)
Not in, but I love The Proposition, a Western somehow set in Australia.
Not In!

But I just came in here to say, I "tracked" these Insomnia games in a thread and even I am not sure I ever knew Outlaws was part of the sale LOL. Glad I wasn't looking for it but thank you for the giveaway.

Bler I don't think you're too far off with Firefly - I always describe it as more Western than scifi / space.

I know there are a ton of good ones, but I still like Tombstone. Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday is one of my favorite characters ever. I love, as he is just robbing the illiterate cowboy blind at cards, he taunts the guy: "Perhaps poker is just not your game. Shall we try a spelling bee?"

Fun fact RE: Westerns and location / pedigree (though I'm sure you already know).

The term "spaghetti western" originated because the genre had a penchant for being filmed in and / or directed by an Italian (or maybe Spain - though other areas of Europe weren't uncommon - yes I know I just butchered use of nouns and adjectives and modifiers there - sue me I did it for ease of the / - I did NOT do it because they were actually filmed in an Italian or directed by Spain ;) ). So it's not so odd that a "Western" would be set / shot in Australia!

I\m in and I also go with Firefly...Sci Fi + Western + Christina Hendricks hell yeah
Ooh, Outlaws! I'm in! I'm mostly a horror/fantasy/sci-fi guy, but I do like westerns. For a favourite, I'm inclined to go with either Fistful of Dollars or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but I do have Django (classic, that is) and Once Upon a Time in the West waiting to be watched, so... maybe that'll change?

As far as westerns being set in places other than the west, there's a long history of things that transplant traditional western themes and styles to other settings. Sci-fi westerns like Firefly are obvious, Neo-westerns like No Country for Old Men are set in the modern day, and the Soviet Union made several movies heavily inspired by westerns (often called "easterns").

Edit: Apparently westerns set in Australia are called Meat pie Westerns.

My two favorite of-all time western-related things are:

Deadwood

and

Once Upon a Time in the West

not in! excellent giveaway!
I'm in. Never saw that game on insomnia.
My favourite western movie is The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The music, epic length of the movie, Eli Wallach, what's not to like.

Edit: And I thought I'd add that the worst thing western related (what I come up now) might be that Will Smith's Wild wild west movie.

I don't find it odd that a Western would be shot outside of the U.S., but set is different. All of the traditional Westerns, including everything from John Ford movies to Italy's Spaghetti Westerns are set in the American West, as are most contemporary Westerns. Of course, Australia was its own kind of frontier and similar to the American West in many ways. It completely makes sense that the plot of a Western could take place in Australia, but very few people have made an Australian Western.
In.
And my favorite Western is Outlaws :)

OK, ok, that does not count here, so I'll say Django Unchained. Nice characters and brilliant performance by C. Waltz.
I like the game Desperados too. And Red Dead Redemption. And cheating a little bit, Steamworld Dig too.
I'm in, and my favorite western is Young Guns.
not in have a + 1

Not really a fan of westerns, but film wise closest would be blazing saddles.
Outlaws... it is in my wishlist ;-) Count me in!

One of my favorite western movies is The Magnificent Seven ( imdb.com/title/tt0054047/ ), an American remake of the old Seven Samurai ( imdb.com/title/tt0047478/ ). Both such good movies!
