Captain America Winter Soldier, went to it on first day of its release and had 0 expectations. (iirc I was trying to find a bad movie and torture myself for a while :P) Captain America, for me at least didn't stand out much in Avengers so when I saw this I was really impressed. Went again with my friends the next week.
The Martian --- I expected some stupid Star Wars clone, it was everything but that. A rôle that suited Matt Damon 5/5
I'm a Cyborg but That's OK --- Silly me expected some light hearted sci-fi; was I in for a surprise. 5/5

NuffCatnip: Really ? I thought it´s one of his movies that had a certain charm to it. :D
The one in which he has to take care of his exes son was okay as well. Forgot the movies name though.
Yeah, most people despise that film (personally, I have to agree with them) and generally cite it as one of Adam Sandler's most obnoxious performances, largely due to the "funny" voice he does in it.

NuffCatnip: I´m not a fan of Adam Sandler, but Little Nicky was somewhat enjoyable.

InfraSuperman: Curiously, that's probably the most hated of all his films.
Doesn't Jack and Jill exist in this timeline? If so it seems like I've escaped the darkest timeline.

drealmer7: Heat: Excellent movie. Make sure you watch Collateral too!
Really good movies. The latter had some good music too(The Roots, Paul Oakenfold, Audioslave)

chevkoch: In Bruges
Yes, Another good movie. Other great movies in a similar mould are The Guard and Seven Psychopaths; If you have not seen these yet, check them out, it will be well worth your time.

Back to the OP's query:
Hot Fuzz (the whole Cornetto trilogy)
Noah
Inglorious Basterds

Thanks, will check these out for sure. Great thread, I'm taking notes on what to watch next :)

sunshinecorp: Crank.
We went to the cinema expecting to see a crappy movie.
It was great fun.
I mean Crank is crap in the sense that it is aggressively dumb b-grade schlock. What makes it work is self awareness and passion from the people behind and in front of the camera. The sequel is amazing too.

Strijkbout: Zardoz of course.
True. While I don't think it's a very good film, the whole "one of the worst movies ever" reputation it has is quite ridiculous. I almost think people who made it so widespread never saw the movie, only the photo of Connery and decided it has to be terrible based on that.

Yes! I had even less expectations from the sequel! And I loved it too.

For what its worth, In Bruges as well as Seven Psychopaths was directed by Martin McDonagh, while his brother John directed The Guard.
Hopefully you have already seen the Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End. If not add them to your list as well. :)
Watchmen 2009.

But at first I was sort of not feeling it after first reading the novel and of course noticed the stupid things, but the more I watched it the more it grew on me. And truly saw the great moments of this movie.
Pitch Black.

I went expecting a (relatively) low-budget B-movie.

But, from the excellent opening sequence until the very end it turned out to be a very good story with great character development.
Warlock, 1-3. I read before that they are cult movies that appeal to a specific mindset of watchers, yet somehow, they were far better than i initially imagined. Sanders had a great role incarnation, too!
