ZFR: I saw the movie "Battleship". It was supposed to be based on a game and I was trying to figure out for some time what video game could it be. Till I realized it's actually based on the battleship pencil and paper game.

The movie itself can be fun if you don't take it seriously.
I remember there is a console game inspired by the movie (a FPS), but there is no pc version : \

If you don't look at Super Mario Bros as a video game movie it's actually quite alright. I loved it as a kid, I still love it now, even if it has very little to do with the game. I have it on DVD and I wouldn't give it up for the world. Dennis Hopper camping it up is always a treat to watch.

The best adaptations that come to my mind are Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Postal, Silent Hill, Hitman, FF7: Advent Children and Tomb Raider ,although not necessarily in that order. Most of them were critically savaged upon release, but once everyone gets off the bashing bandwagon, they're actually pretty decent flicks (although the only one that can really be deemed to have any lasting artistic value is probably Silent Hill).

Tekken's reputation is much worse than it deserves. It doesn't have the best of stories, but it does have some incredible looking fight scenes. If anything, its biggest sin was not enough Hiroyuki Tagawa. He was the best thing about Mortal Kombat, and he was chronically underused in Tekken.

Anything by Uwe Boll is dreadful, with the notable exception of Postal.

The Resident Evil films are basically senseless trash actioners with the occasional Resi reference. They're actually crap, but I enjoyed watching them, certainly more than the horrendously bad CGI movies from Capcom.

Tannath: You wouldn't happen to know if he ever said anything regarding the games, would you?

Maighstir: Some of his expressed thoughts:

Interesting. He's very old-school, isn't he? He makes some interesting points, but I don't fully agree with him. Yes, most videogames these days have little/bad stories, but there are exceptions. Same goes for films. To say that "a story can only be contained in a book" is too extreme. I'm a fan of books, and was disappointed by almost every movie/game based on books I've read, but there are games/movies with good stories out there (and crappy books too).
Final Fantasy: Advent Children is really good, if that counts.
