I had a search via the mghty GOG search engine, but could find no thread about this topic.

I'm playing dungeon siege at the moment, and came across this film based on it 'In the Name of the King' has anyone seen this film? thinking of getting it.

And what other films are based on computer games

PS sorry for my english I'm english ^^

All the best
doom comes to mind now

and doom

uh and doom
The animated Final Fantasy looked nice is nothing else and the Price of Persia thing with Jake Gyllenwhatsit is meant to be OK but the rest are pretty bad AFAIK

Does anyone know of any more that AREN'T rubbish that I've missed?
well mortal kombat wasnt ass
Hitman, with a new one coming out this year, Tomb Raider movies...But, no, movies based on games are usually bad. Really bad.

In the name of the king is a Uwe Boll movie. So expect the worst. Uwe Boll made a Blood Rayne movie series, Alone in the Dark and a few others. terrible, terrible movies.

A complete list here:

I couldn't finish In The Name of The King. Gave up after 25 min.

I kinda like Mortal Kombat (only saw first one) and Street Fighter.

Tomb Raider movies are ok even though they have very little in common with the games imo.

Alone in the Dark and House of the dead are pretty terrible but i watched them to completion.

I like the first two Resident evil movies, the others are not so good but watchable.

Doom is okay.

Didn't see bloodrayne but I did see 2 (terrible) and part of 3 (even worse).

Didn't see the super mario bros film since i was a kid but I liked it then.

Silent Hill was pretty good, the sequel not.

DOA was stupid but i had much fun watching it.

Max Payne was terrible.

Hitman was okay

Didn't see prince of persia yet.

That's all I can think of for now.
Uwe Boll also did BloodRayne, Postal and Alone in the Dark (thankfully I never watched the first two, the third was pretty dull).

Personally I thought the Tomb Raider movies weren't too bad for a video game adaptation. Not the greatest of movies and neither all that faithful to the games, but still somewhat entertaining to watch (decent action flicks compared to the B-movie trash that most other adaptations turn into).
The best adaptations have been web series like Mortal Kombat Legacy and Street Fighter: Assassins Fist which was re-cut as a feature length movie on Bluray. The Street Fighter movie in particular was really amazing considering the limited budget they were working with and I am hoping for a sequel that expands the story with other characters from the game.

I'd definitely vote for Final Fantasy Advent Children. It is pretty damn f**kin awesome really.
I try to stay far away from anything Uwe Boll is involved in...

So far the only ones i liked were Prince of Persia and Silent Hill. Not a huge fan of either game series (i liked the 2D PoPs though), so im probably less picky than others but i thought Prince of Persia was a fun summer flick with some nice visuals and Silent Hill captured the mood pretty well, judging from what I've played from SH2 atleast. It wasn't flawless though, with that convoluted story line....

Also a Polish TV-series, I think. But they're based on the books, not the games.

There was a Wing Commander movie wasn't there? Haven't seen it though, meat to be pretty bad. Maybe a couple of D&D movies too, but I guess they're more table-top games, originally

Oh I guess there were those feature-length Pokemon animated movies, I haven't seen them but I suspect they were no worse than the cartoon series

Actually computer games have done FAR better when it comes to cartoon series - Earthworm Jim and Captain N spring to mind (although I think the Earthworm Jim games and cartoon were conceived simultaneously?)

DOA is great fun :D
Don't mind the negative reviews. The movie brings everything you'd want from DOA. Only the cup sizes are not as massive as in the videogame :D.
