GamezRanker: Well it is a
fantasy world, and since it's unlike our own in other ways then why not having puzzles in some places?
Which is why I brought up hidden object games, as they seem to be everywhere in the worlds of that genre as well :)
Shmacky-McNuts: Since you ask. The reason why is because it is illogical. The general idea as the games begin, are as a exploration game. Using a carved out cave system people and creatures alike have carved for a few hundred years maybe. To that end miners would follow veins of ore and stop when nothing were found. Creatures would dig for safety. Water would trail a weave of tunnels and pool and trail in odd directions, but always downward...as water doesnt move upward unless heated.....lava veins and heat shafts? Then earchquakes can affect random fissures. But also the other modes of tunnel craft.
My point? Nobody thinks to make a booby trap out of solid stone to kill a random shmuck long after the habitat is devoid of people. Using the excuse "its a game" is the point where the devs ran out of interest in their own game and said F*ck it, then just wanted things to be over. Added trash and called it a day.
Imagine how good a game would be if it were empty of puzzle trash. Like a Morrowind Underworld. Speaking of Morrowind, look at the rebuild project for it. If that dont tell devs what people have an interest in nothing will get through to them. An underworld could be thousands of years in the making. So the devs can make many cultures that have mined and lived in it. Plus many ways into it to have had full fledge war when large areas converge from an earthquake. Filth in a used habitat happens easy enough. Imagine the crud never moving for a few years....youtube videos of abandoned buildings are good start. In short even time makes things look disgusting and changed.
edits= typos...to much excitement and passion about quality gaming! >_<
Agreed. I HATE being stuck behind puzzles and random difficulty crap (pick locks not 100 yet? You SHALL NOT PASS!)
Adventure exploration is great.
Puzzles that get in the way of that....not so much.
