dtgreene: It's not just the clicks (which, on some touchpads, aren't that easy); it's moving the mouse cursor to a specific spot on the screen.

By the way, please don't use sarcasm.
I stand corrected.

You must be fun at parties.

You're welcome, by the way.

Ta-ta now!

What about what I said suggests I'd be fun at parties?

davies92: Hi folks,
Since discovering GoG's offline installers, I've realised just how much better purely offline gaming feels.
Yeah, it can be fun to just install a game(old or new) and play. Fun and cozy times.

ISWYDT
That was legit good. :-)
Cosy play is okay if you subscribe to the KISS principle ... like I do. But many folk want more than that ... record keeping, achievements, scores etc.

Each to their own.
Yes I do.
Also I've set up myself an old Windows XP desktop with a CD-drive. Hardware specs are good enough to run old CD-Roms that I still have :p

Didn't old arcade games keep track of high scores?
Yeah but thats probably because I have very little interest in multiplayer to be honest. Unless Im playing a couch coop type game of a party of two to four against the world, single player is always more fun.

Single player is all about you vs the computer and using exploits, improving your skills, and experimenting is all encouraged but not required to have a good time. Multiplayer definately makes improving a requirement to have fun and I find the highs to be far fewer.

When it comes to record keeping, I definately am a sucker for achievements but also do think its not great for gaming. While it does give some insight to how gamers approach games (how many people actually do something which provides some cool insights) I do think modern use of achievements have defeated their purpose. Im also not a fan of seeing how much time Ive spent playing a game.

The frustrating part is that all of these features could be provided by KISS software, there is no real need to tie all of them together in some kind of all-purpose games launcher. But everyone still goes that way, trying to emulate Steam instead of focusing on the actual features.

That’s what spawned my early work on ./play.it, I wanted to provide a software handling only the installation of games. Then other could be done for achievements, time tracking, etc.

Sadly for now we only have good focused tools for downloading games and installing them, and nothing well-known for the other features (outside of the Steam clones).
I've been strictly offline for several years now. I tried getting back into some multiplayer games, but it's just not fun for me. Also, the fact that people take online gaming too seriously and ruin the fun.

I prefer playing my strategy games alone like a hermit. Lol

Hello Mr. Hermit, my name is Hermann...would you like to form a band? ;)
You can definitely feel the freedom. That said, I still play my GOG games in conjunction with Steam (I register the games as non-steam games in my steam library) simply for the sole purpose of taking screenshots lol. Other than that, yeah I do prefer to play my games offline also because my friends won't know that I'm online, as they would usually ask me out to play games with them when they noticed, which I would just simply politely decline if it isn't the scheduled day (I told them I would only play with them on saturday night, the rest are for my own free time to spend).
Whenever I play a game from GoG, which I almost always do, it feels good to have it DRM-free and offline. Yes, it's purely psychological but hey, it still feels good to OWN a game and play it as much as I want.

That's why I don't like playing games on Steam, it doesn't feel the same way!
No, I don't see how gimping myself out of features I like to use, such as gameplay time tracking, Cloud Saves, and Achievements, would be "cosy."
I tend to play my single-player GOG games with offline installers only because:

1. I generally consider the extra launcher client just an unneeded extra hurdle to launch the game. Should all my Windows applications be behind some kind of online client?

2. I don't want to have Galaxy even installed because it tends to meddle with my offline-installed games too. I understand why it does that and in a way it makes sense, but I'd rather not have it launch with all my GOG games, because:

3. By using only the offline installers, I am verifying that the offline installers actually work, without Galaxy being even present. Just to be sure, as there were those cases where the offline installers had hiccups or even refused to work if e.g. Galaxy was not installed (or so I remember reading sometime...).

The only thing I miss about using a client is cloud saves. Yes it would make it simpler to play the same game on several PCs, e.g. I have Planescape: Torment EE installed on three separate laptops as I kept juggling on which of them I will mostly play it. Or, right now as I am playing another game, I am thinking of moving it to another PC and play it there instead, certainly that would be easier with cloud saves to do that move.

With online multiplayer games, I feel an online client is a must, keeping the game up to date etc., but I don't play multiplayer games on GOG, at least for now. Then again even on Steam I play only one multiplayer game, Team Fortress 2.
