I purchased Fallout here on GOG long ago and noticed that I have Fallout Classic in my collection as well as Fallout 2 Classic. What is the difference between the classic versions I have and the two that are available for purchase now?
high rated
Fallout Classic is the original release when the Fallout IP was owned by Interplay while the current Fallout now available is the Bethesda release, if you own the Interplay version there is no need to purchase the Bethesda version as they are the same, you may get more extras with the Interplay version.
Thanks :)
I don't believe there's any software changes other than the Bethesda copyright, unless something has changed.
Just checked and the Classic versions have more extra materials, here is what Fallout Classic has

manual (124 pages)
HD wallpaper
Fallout series wallpaper
Fallout Bible (205 pages)
reference card
soundtrack
avatars (18)
Vault Boy avatars
artworks (5)

The Bethesda version just has the manual as an extra

Why does this topic keep coming up? Does nobody actually do any research before asking questions? Shame on the people in this thread who encourage this kind of behavor by actually answering the question, instead of pointing people to the previous thread(s).

And more. I stopped searching. Or just google it (and yes, you even get relevant results w/o restricting the site):

From which I found the first official answer, in 2015, in the re-release thread:

We like the human interaction and socialization, that's all.

It is like when discussing about the weather with your colleagues, you don't just say angrily:
"Well duh, why don't you just google for the weather report? Sheesh... <slurps his coffee>".

One other difference:
* Buying Fallout will add TES: Arena and Daggerfall to your account. Fallout Classic does not give you those games.

(With that said, this is not enough as a reason to re-buy these games; just buy Battlespire instead (so that you get a game that's probably new to you), or if you want to spend more on a game similar to Daggerfall, but with better graphics and a smaller, but more interesting, world, just get Morrowind, which will also add those games.)
I don't own the games on GOG (yet) but I believe the classic version is without any alterations, just as-is. The other version probably includes the high res patches that allow you to run the game on higher resolutions, maybe along with some bug fixes and such.

wolfsite: Fallout Classic is the original release
Hasn't that game been censored?

If yes, then no, it certainly isn't "the original release," but rather, a butchered version thereof.

From the Fallout subforum:

There is 3 GOG versions (offline ones) for old Fallout's.
Classic Win and Mac. Pre-latest builds (maybe more oldest?). By Interplay. Seems no censorship. US version, right?

Current builds labeled as Classic. Win. Mac in library still old. So it is only Win. Labeled as by Interplay - but is is from Bethesda. Some new tweaks\updates included. Censored.

Current on-store versions. Bethesda. Censored. Only Windows in library after purchase.

I don't know if that's true though, most say the only difference is the amount of goodies.

The European release removed the urchins from that early township (can't remember the name, where the car is located and you go underground to kill the moleman) because European Law prohibits the depiction of any violence towards children, and the characters will be robbed blind by the little beasts, except if you run fast or kill one or more of them (earning the now orphan "childkiller" feat, which will make you unpopular in various conversations during the game) which makes them instead run away from the characters; so it isn't a big deal.

The "hi-res" patch makes the game nearly unplayable, since the characters are tiny on a huge background. (I don't think it's possible to zoom in, but if it is someone please correct me, so I can go back and play this great game. Otherwise I'll just stick to the Director's Cut of Wasteland 2 —— why didn't anyone tell me this was the spiritual successor to Fallout, gorramit! *mutters*)

I can't remember which the current version on GOG is but in the original European version of FO2 (and I think FO1), all of the art for the children has been removed so you can't see or interact with them but you can still see their floating dialogue, they can still pickpocket you and you can still damage them with dropped dynamite. There is a patch available that adds the art back making the game just the same as the uncensored version (I think).

The classic version also includes the high-res patches and all Bethesda related things. The only difference between Classic and non-Classic are the extras.

I think they're in the Gog version. I seem to remember them. (I have a UK version, and I think they're in that, even though the UK was part of the EU at the time. Or maybe that's how I noticed it. Getting old sucks.) Dang, I suppose I should stop shootin' the breeze and go load it up, but then I'd have to play for a while to get to the town to see if they're still there.

* looks around to see if anyone else will pipe up *

I like the dynamite trick. Those little monsters can take quest items, too.

edit:
actually, maybe I patched my UK version to the US version to rollback the kid redaction.
