Not sure what it's all about?

Have you heard the word?
The word is that we get the chance to work with Larian Studios to design an NPC character in their about-to-win-kickstarter sequel, Divinity: Original Sin 2 - a unique in-game character, the #GOGHero, complete with a backstory and private motivations to intertwine with the players' fates.

Well. YOU get to design them.

Because the more is always the merrier, we're handing the #GOGHero over to you, the gamers, and everyone is welcome to pitch in with their ideas! The entire gaming community is invited to a massive brainstorming session with Larian Studios & GOG.com, and to submit their own ideas for the upcoming character.

For a touch of authenticity, Larian is providing official guidelines to work with - just like the ones they use during development. Fun, but optional:

--Each character has 3 major traits: Vanity, aggression, pride, self-confidence, racist towards dwarves/elves/humans/orcs/sourcerers...
--1 Quirk or Eccentricity: A predilection for dogs in leather boots, refuses to face north for religious reasons, in denial about his singing.
--One Fear/Loss/Block/Wound: Something traumatic in their background for which they are compensating in some way, or which drives them to do something normal people don't. His wife was killed in a tragic accident and now he's a kamikaze detective with a death wish. His parents were murdered by a criminal so now he's a vigilante crime-fighter. He's terrified of intimacy so treats women terribly. That kind of thing.
--Race: Human, dwarf, elf, lizard, undead.
--Background: Gender, age, job function, loyalties.

Throughout the brainstorm, the team from Larian, including creative director Swen Vincke among others, will be joining in us to browse, weigh in, and search for inspiration! Finally, when the time comes, they'll design three final characters combining the awesomest ideas, complete with official concept art and backstory. Once again, the #GOGHero will be placed in your hands with an official vote to chose the favorite champion from the three proposals. The winning character will go on to become the community-made, full-featured NPC in Divinity 2: Original Sin.

Sorry for my English.

Name: Frederic Broadus (from Burrhus Frederic Skinner and John Broadus Watson)
Race: Undead
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown

Hobby: behaviorism

Traits: gallows humor,
wants to become a Professor
he doesn't like cats, they always atack his birds.
he doesn't trust lizards.

Quirk: He has a big hat with bird's nest on it. There are two little birds live there. He called them Zig and Mundy. And he speaks with them when he depressed and lonely.
Also, he has a little cart full of scrolls and books.

Biography: He was born in ordinary human family. His father was a dancing master. His mother was a apprentice blacksmith. Parents want him to become a mighty warrior. But he was short, skinny and weak.
One day parents took him to local healer(lizard). They hoped he gives some potions or herbs to his son and it makes him stronger. But.... 3 days of indigestion, various spots on skin (makes him look like cheetah) and long hairs on his hands.. that was a result of "healing".it all desappeared in a week.
After all, few years later he became a good healer. Parents grew old and died. He inherited his father's big and beautiful hat and mother's wooden cart.
One day he found strange bag with scrolls, books and potions in a forest. The books were about human's behavior. He spent many days and nights reeding these books. And he's bent on being a Professor of Behaviorism.
One nigth he heard a strange noise from village graveyard. When he came to check, he saw a dwarf-necromancer. he tried to get closer and attack dwarf from behind, but he stumbled and hit dwarf to back of his head with his forehead... and lost consciousness..
Then he woke up. There was a night. He saw a birds nest on his hat... and realized the fact that he became.... undead. He saw few people on a road near the graveyard. There was a village wine-merchant with his family. They arrived from near town.
Frederic came closer to ask for help, but merchant's children starts cry, woman lose consciousness and merchant hit him in a face and kick him in a groin......
An idea shot into Frederic's mind... He will explore fear!!!! He will scare Humans,Dwarfs.... and explore reaction..
And he will write a Big encyclopedia of Fear...
Hat with Bird's nest he uses like decoy. When someone gets closer to the nest, he suddenly apperes and scares everyone. Then he carefully writes down all details.
Character name:
Gog

Gog is an undead. He was once a very hansom young fellow, but age, and death has taken its toll. Nonetheless he has resisted the hall of echos, so that he may remain in the world...to entertain.
Gog is a Bard of sorts. A storyteller and a game-master. As a young man he traveled about drinking establishments, a traveling showman and gambler. Always with him is his special box of tricks, cards, dice etc. and his fiddle.
Very multi-talented. Very handsome...was....

TRAITS- Romantic, Bold, Vanity

Quirk- Although Gog is dead and probably not as handsome as he once was.....He still sees himself as the dashing charismatic bard. Not only will he attempt to woo any pretty young lass he comes across, he will engage the crowd or anyone he meets with a decaying grin, oblivious to the fact its lost its sparkle. When the crowd, or young lass turns away in horror, he is surprised every time, and is constantly in search of better threads, hoping that a new pair of clothes will help the crowd receive him better...Truth be told, appearances aside he is still a very very talented, charismatic fellow and great conversationalist.

Fear/loss/wound- Gog was murdered in his prime by rival bard named Durmy. Durmy was a monopolizer and control freak who went around claiming he had written this song or invented that game and demanded payment from any other bards that might sing 'his' verses or play one of 'his' games. Gog was much more talented than Durmy and his ilk. Unfortunately Durmy started a 'guild' of bards that go about trying to monopolize the scene. Gog hates these Durmy bards and refuses to join their guild or pay their stupid fees. Gog is inclined whenever in a city or town to seek out the local drinking establishment and outperform/oust any Durmy that might be there. His undead appearance can make this an akward situation...but if given a chance most agree- he is the best gamemaster, storyteller and bard that ever lived.....just isn't really living anymore....
Naturally since he has been dead awhile, his songs and games are a little oldschool, but he does pick up some new stuff as he goes, as long as they are not associated in any way with the Durmy bards.
(alternative name option for Durmy is Digo Rigo Manago)

(said above)
race- Undead
Background- Male, Bard, independent/traveler

This sounds awesome! Here's my attempt at one-

As a child, he was involved in a tragic gaming accident, and now he has a deep seething hatred towards all forms of DRM.

Justin Elfhame

He has a slight bit of aggression, is prideful/self assured, and is racist towards the beancounters at AAA gaming studios (especially those at ubisoft ;P)

His quirk, is that he spends more time playing games than talking to actual people and questing.

Rejected name: Jake Cigs
--name: TBD (allso called mud elf)

--race: elf / unknown

--personality traits: self-indulgent, narrow-minded, foolhardy

-- Quirk or Eccentricity:
He is an elf portraying a human narrow-minded stereotype,
is in denial about having an identity crisis

--One Fear/Loss/Block/Wound:
was accused of a crime he did not commit and banished from his elven community. Settled in an urban human community where he has been living for decades. Has fully embraced the life of a simple human townsman, being brought up by his surrounding, renouncing everything from his early life. Behaves like a stereotypical human sellsword/drunkard (literaly lines written like a human thug)

--Background:

Raised in an elven society. At the age of 16, he was accused of a severe crime he didn't commit. This culminated into an assasination attempt which left him with a neck scar. Being forced out of his home, he settled in an urban human community, where he has been living for decades. Growing up in such surroundings, he embraced the thugh way of life, and left behind his past. Other members of the community call him "mud elf" , for his grey-ish skin tone and his poor hygiene (to the point where he smells).
He was made fun of his whole life, back with the elves where he had slightly darker skin, and amog the humans for simply not being a human. Trying to fit in , he pushed himself to embrace the ever so shallow ideals of his surroundings. He has become narrow minded in a human sort of way, obsessed with things like wealth, women, drinking, gossip, cutting corners and tricking people
Ever the outcast, he is hard to admit he cares about anything and anyone, shielding himself from others.
Is somewhat racist twords (other) elves, believing them to be self-righcheous gibberish preachers
serves at times as comic relief (why does this always happen to me ! guy ; thug life compilation guy)

edit: made this up from looking at a picture form an old game (below)

Name - Count Percival Xylos, "The Yellow Count"

Major Traits - Well-educated, artistic, nervous

Quirk - Obsessed with the color yellow. His coat of arms are yellow, his clothes are yellow, his bed is yellow, etc.

Flaw - Flees from battle frequently, both out of fear of being killed and out of a desire not to have to harm anyone else.

Race - Human

Background - The son of a minor noble, Percival's reckless father was killed in battle when Percival was young, leaving him in the care of his somewhat over-protective mother. Fearing the loss of her only son, Percival's mother kept him indoors as much as possible, encouraging him to focus on academic pursuits. Now, however, she is dead, and Percival is fored to wander the world, seeking a way to make enough money to avoid being forced to sell his lands. Unfortunately, Percival's rather luxurious taastes make this difficult, and he is almost perpetually insolvent. He can join the player's party for a large fee, and is near-useless in combat. However, his vast knowledge can be helpful when it comes to solving puzzles or navigating unfamiliar terrain. Mainly inteded to provide minor comic relief.
Hey, I can't believe I noticed that just about now.

My #GOGhero

He's a very old man. At least he seems so. When observed from afar, he seems so full of wisdom and knowledge he forces the respect. Approaching him feels like diving in an ocean of calm and silence.
Upon closer inspection he seems rather young, yet washed up by life. Everything of him is a clue of the wounds of time : pale, with long sparse grey hair failing on his skeletal shoulders.
Against all expectations, he is really charming, have great manners, but it shows very quickly how childish he is. Not that he has any form of mental impairment, but he seems like a young troubled soul in an old deficient bag.

On every account, he takes care of his every day needs in the most automatic, efficient and silent fashion. Everything he cares and talks about are unbelievable stories. Nothing he ever said had any ring of truth. People let him alone, not because they're annoyed/frightened but because he doesn't make sense and he really doesn't seem to care about people. He will invariably try to cut any conversation short (although in a polite manner). Nonetheless he is always eager to tell any extravagant story ; not that living human interlocutors (or the lack thereof) are of any relevance to him telling his stories.

The most peculiar thing about him, is that he will most likely be found talking to (with ?) doors. Well, technically he is talking to locks. People believe he was a prisoner of some sort, because many of his stories are about prisons, castles and dungeons. And he his most fascinated by doors (more than people at the very least).

One sure way to upset him his to open a door he is talking to.

Makarta: Fear/Quirk/Loss/Wound: Her grandchildren saw what Sourcery was capable of first hand and, instead of turning from its influence, embraced the opportunity, each seeking out ways to harness and control it for their own ends and means. She sees them and by extension all Sourcerer's as overcome with desire for easy power and an easy life.
I like the idea of an old villain who resents what Sourcery did to her descendants.

Rice: Human
Classes: Fighter/Rogue
Weapon: Magic wristbands that increases his strength, and a huge 2-hand sword

A tall young human, with messy dark blue hair and blue eyes. He wears a boarding-school kind of uniform with a fedora.

Very laid back, to the point of being outright lazy. But overreacts with deadly violence when provoked.
Cocky and perverted, he would steal clothing from the player, if he/she is carrying any pants or undergarments. Has a reputation for donating stolen pants to orphans, and "white-knighting" maidens in distress.

Likes to call himself the "true hero".

Name : Nemo
Race : all / unknown
Gender : male / female / unknown
Age : unkown
Job : Treasure Hunter

BackGround :
Much of who this person is, or better was, is unkown and forgotten. We do however know what it is : a scholar mage who loathed being born as one of the ordinary seven races. Therefore it sought the forbidden power once held by Maxos the great wizard to transform oneself into the only truly noble race in Rivellon : a Dragon. Nemo once thought to have found a way to trade the native flesh for dragon's skin. Once it succeeded in opening it's from to be molded, it discovered that the ancient discovered formula was not suited for dragonform, leaving it's appearance unstable. Ironically, every now and then Nemo will morph into one of the seven races, by perchance, without ever being in complete control over this shapeshifting.
Whilst for some people this seems a most fascinating lifestyle, being able to live as another person every know and then, Nemo still can't appreciate the lives of an ordinary citizen of one of the seven races, and the only memories of it's past lives that remain are negative experiences. It can not even recollect it's original name, race nor gender.
More than anything, Nemo wishes to discover the true formula to dragonhood in ancient treasures, and to spend the rest of eternity living as one.

Eccentricity / traits : worships the Draconian race, whilst finding the seven races revolting in every aspect. Fond of black humor, as only dragons are carefree of the mortal realm's crual twists. Sarcastic and disrespective of life. Excited at news of excavations of magical nature. Not the most charismatic of persons.

Special abilities : Shapeshifting ( of course ), can suddenly change into one of the other races, with the player having limited control over this. The traits that come with one of these races therefore can change as well during gameplay. Skilled in arts of healing, as such trivial things like flesh, blood an bones are it's to shape.

phaolo: Oh lol true, but he should have special items\prices : )
Each item with its own name and description \ history... and it could be a wandering shopkeeper. I like the idea ;)
This is my idea, although it is hardly "original" ;) bonus points if you can find all of the references.

Name: Gennefer Of Givira
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 97 although she has used magic to maintain a youthful appearance
Job: Animal Tamer and sorceress.
Loyalty: Her pets and other creatures of the wild.
Traits: Naïve, Manipulative, Protective, afraid of fire
Quirk: She is often mistaken for other people, and for some reason people are always offering her money to go and kill various creatures. Her services are not for sale however so good luck convincing her to help you. If you should be so lucky however she is a powerful practitioner of witchcraft but she hates being called a witch, preferring the term "hexer" instead.
Personality/tragedy: Spending so much time in the wilderness away from people has made her unable to properly handle most social situations and very self conscious. She might have never left the wilderness if it wasn't for the unnaturally massive fire that destroyed her home. She doesn't know who set the fire or why, but she could feel the magical energy driving it forward. In fact, her affinity for magic is so intrinsic that she does not understand non-magic users but this has also led to a paranoia that any relationships she has developed is the result of magical coaxing and not a genuine friendship or interest.
Hmm .. I also like the idea of "Guardian of Game".
But with "game" meaning huntable animals like deer, rabbits, etc.

The Guardian could be some kind of woodland spirit, protecting animals from hunters.
Name: Good Old Gary
Race: Dwarf
Occupation: Merchant
In-game Purpose: Sell legendary items during endgame

After saving him from the arch-villain Douglas Raymond Manson, Good Old Gary will sell you legendary items at a discount.
