Not sure what it's all about?

Have you heard the word?
The word is that we get the chance to work with Larian Studios to design an NPC character in their about-to-win-kickstarter sequel, <span class="bold">Divinity: Original Sin 2</span> - a unique in-game character, the #GOGHero, complete with a backstory and private motivations to intertwine with the players' fates.

Well. YOU get to design them.

Because the more is always the merrier, we're handing the #GOGHero over to you, the gamers, and everyone is welcome to pitch in with their ideas! The entire gaming community is invited to a massive brainstorming session with Larian Studios & GOG.com, and to submit their own ideas for the upcoming character.

For a touch of authenticity, Larian is providing official guidelines to work with - just like the ones they use during development. Fun, but optional:

--Each character has 3 major traits: Vanity, aggression, pride, self-confidence, racist towards dwarves/elves/humans/orcs/sourcerers...
--1 Quirk or Eccentricity: A predilection for dogs in leather boots, refuses to face north for religious reasons, in denial about his singing.
--One Fear/Loss/Block/Wound: Something traumatic in their background for which they are compensating in some way, or which drives them to do something normal people don't. His wife was killed in a tragic accident and now he's a kamikaze detective with a death wish. His parents were murdered by a criminal so now he's a vigilante crime-fighter. He's terrified of intimacy so treats women terribly. That kind of thing.
--Race: Human, dwarf, elf, lizard, undead.
--Background: Gender, age, job function, loyalties.

Throughout the brainstorm, the team from Larian, including creative director Swen Vincke among others, will be joining in us to browse, weigh in, and search for inspiration! Finally, when the time comes, they'll design three final characters combining the awesomest ideas, complete with official concept art and backstory. Once again, the #GOGHero will be placed in your hands with an official vote to chose the favorite champion from the three proposals. The winning character will go on to become the community-made, full-featured NPC in Divinity 2: Original Sin.

Dray2k: Bloodninja working in the PR department for GoG confirmed.

What did I just read... ?! XD

You are now an official backer of Divinity: Original Sin 2.

If this project is successfully funded, the creator will send you a survey to collect information needed to deliver your reward.

This is the first time I am backing up a game on kickstarter so i am a little excited. I hope it reaches 2 million by tomorrow so we can get the Game Master Mode
So i will give my shot at this :3
Name: Lazarus Percival - Army medic
Traits: Excessive cleanliness - Can't stand the smell of corpses and lives in constant fear of bacteria and disease
Never gets involved in combat unless it's in self - defense - Believes in neutrality of medics so he tries to concentrate on healing his fallen comrades.
Knowledge - Knows a lot about human body and when defending himself from human enemies he always kill them in one lethal strike.
Quirks: He is totally helpless against red haired wenches, when he sees one he will forgot about all the healing and concentrate more on shapes of their bodies clothed in those tiny armor sets so typical for RPGs. He never kills an animal...he actually saves lives of his comrades only because he consider himself a professional but otherwise he could care less...but he cant stand a death or torture or helpless animals...even when those animals are three times larger than him and chewing his leg off. He got his favorite teddy bear with red cross that takes place of his left eye that he carries with him and talks to him at night...super creepy...
Loss: He lost his whole family as a child to unknown disease that creates painful lumps on the whole body(inside and outside) in the end those lumps explode and victims bleed to death internaly and externaly...after that he lived the rest of childhood on the street with dogs until he was picked up by half insane doctor that used him as his assistant during his experiments on human subjects. From this comes his fear of plagues, and the fact that he despise people and thinks of them as a subjects to experiment. Also dogs raised him so that why he love them...also dogs are awesome...screw cats.
Race: He is human though his mother had a trace of elven blood in her because her mother used to go into the haystack with that handsome elf from circus.
Gender...well there used to be some doubts...but male it is!
He is currently 32 years 5 months 6 days and 2,5 hours.
When in Lazaret he is the main doctor and also leads the autopsy.
He is only loyal to his beloved dog named Sargon which he never forgets to feed with pieces of...well people that are not really alive.

PaterAlf: GOG Bear

- Agressive and racist towards (server) gremlins
- Believes that he carries the world upon his shoulders
- He's terrified of insomnia (which overcomes him about twice each year)
This, This!
Please, THIS
It would be so cool to meet a little orange bear with such a personality and mental torture.

Metushelah: I really like the idea of letting Ciri appear here as she escapes the wild hunt in this world as well, but i guess it might be a problem to incorporate so it's just a thought for CD projeckt red.
I would love that. Plus it should work well to represent GoG/CDR!

k1bell: No Bear race, I am disappointed as this means no real GOGBear.
Could make GOGbear a dwarf and it is so fluffy and round everyone just calls the dwarf Bear. ;)
ok here is my character.

Name: Neterial De'Gogarion.
Race: Undead (representing DRM, no boundries).
Gender: Female
Age: 208 (representing 2008 when GOG was founded)
Job: Tomb of Legends Warden. (representing the legendary games GOG has).

Traits: Neterial isnt known for her talkative nature. But when she does she reveals a very friendly nature beneath her intimidating look. If you can get past her defenses which she built as she doesnt trust people easily, which means gain her trust, you can see the agile and friendly spirit in her eyes. If you are a man with sweet tongue, she will often call you "love" and blink charmingly even tho she denies if you mention it.

Neterial especially despises families who use Tomb-lock to protect their entrance. Even tho she doesnt openly say it, she mentions it when she greets you the second time.

" Welcome back love. If you came back to visit some of the tombs, know that some of them are protected by deadly locks. Bullshit if you ask me. Tombs should be open to everyone"

(as you may have guessed this is referring to DRM)

----------- END OF CHARACTER ----------

Also, I would like to see Dandelion as a character.

Race: Undead

Background: former adventurer, returned to life to show those young'uns how the good old game used to be played

Traits: proud, determined and blunt. He'll always speak his mind about whatever's going on, get into the thick of every fight and refuse to get out of it unless the rest of the group is forced to flee.

Quirk: a disdain for newfangled things, like fancy weapons. Back in his day, a longsword was good enough for anyone!

Fear: once a renowned swordsman, famous for taking a stand against anything, he now fears that with time he will be forgotten. This was such a strong issue for him that he reanimated himself to avoid it, and he will react violently if anyone suggests he get some of that eternal rest stuff that seems to be going around.
I like the idea of a character that represents GoG's anti-DRM policy. A rogue'ish character that believes in freedom of choice and final ownership of one's property seems the most appropriate.
Well this is interesting. Thank you GOG for allowing us to throw our Ideas at you.

As for my suggestion,

Job : Wizard of some kind (Necromancer)
Race : Undead

Eccentricity : An obsession with Ancient and powerful artifacts both wonderful and terrible. The only requirement needed to enter the collection is that it needs to be some kind of game or toy. Card games, wizard games, Reindeer Games you name it he's got it. He also uses his necromancy to create zombies who proceed to play those games, Mumbling incoherent nonsense such as "One more turn".

Traits : He's quite the proud individual, thanks to his not inconsiderate and ever expanding collection of games. Rather polite and kind most of the time, even helping his "guests" get started on their new games, and fixing any problems that may occur. Also accepting in the extreme, Always willing to accept new people into his "Community".

Fear : Has an odd and Extreme fear of locks of any kind, ever since he was a small child and got locked inside a room for days with absolutely nothing to do (Perhaps where his obsession with games came from as well) Because of his fear he never has any kind of locks on anything, no matter how important.

He is a rather old and reclusive undead who claims to be 1994 years old, though there are not many who can confirm or deny this. Mostly stays at home enjoying his collection of ancient and often magical collection of games, Though upon hearing of either a new find of ancient relics or of a particularly interesting new creation, he will don his robes and wizard hat and ride out on his trusty Bear mount, sparing no expense in acquiring his new game.

Sir William Wallace Wotherspoon

Loss: Having been spurned in love, Sir Wotherspoon has resolved himself to suicide, but only in manner befitting a gentleman and an officer. He has volunteered for innumerable perilous quests of valor, each one as frustratingly non-lethal as the last.

Traits: Sir Wotherspoon is a hopeless romantic with a taste for poetry; a keen tactician with a reckless streak; and above all a man driven by a deeply ingrained sense of honor

Quirks: He has trained himself to function on little to no sleep. He can be a bit cranky when he doesn't have his coffee

35 year old human male, military officer and aristocrat.
Race: Human

Gender: choose freely

Age: twenty-something

Traits: Imaginary ability to talk with objects and animals, self-confident, choleric.

Quirk: Inability to walk through doors normally. (walks backwards, sidewards, falls through, rolls through, jumps through... etc.)

Other: Every good RPG needs this hommage - a giant miniature space budgerigar sitting on the characters shoulder.
Every decision the character discusses with an imaginary dialogue with the budgerigar. If the player has the ability to talk to animals (assuming this ability is part of the game again), the character can talk to the budgerigar and learn it ignores its owner for a new reason now and then. Every dialogue between the two is completely made up by the character.

Maybe with some coffee I will get a better idea :)

I think there is a consensus that the character should somehow represent GOG's anti DRM stance.

Therefore I suggest a quirky but charismatic leader. He gives wild speeches about the oppression of the people by the hands of the feudal lords. His ideas are actually quite progressive but a little bit too radical for his contemporaries so they mostly react slightly discombobulated. Most people don't really take him serious and don't perceive him to be a threat to social order, they just think of him as slightly weird. Over time his ideas about freeing the farmers and about *gasp* holding votes have managed to attract a relatively small but fervently loyal followship nonetheless.

Quirks:
Going with the theme of representing GOG somewhat the quirks should reflect that, too.

-He is racist against no one, because that's not GOG-Style. In fact, his inclusiveness is what confuses many people about him. Well, maybe orcs, because they're so brutal.
-However, he HATES bugs. Spiders are bad enough, but bugs are just the worst. There could very well be a quest around his bug-phobia. Maybe he and his followers are starting their own settlement in the forest and now he's afraid of all the forests insects. Maybe there's a spider cave nearby?
-Occasionally he suffery from severe insomnia. For this case he has set away a very potent sleeping potion which is strong anough to make someone appear dead. (Play on the insomnia sale. The potion could be the center piece of a quest. The first Divinity had a quest wherein a soldier needed such a potion to fake his own death.)
-He doesn't sell spellbooks because those can't be shared and only be used once.
-Divinity games usually features series of books like "Magical Tragedies" that don't really serve purpose aside immersion and game lore. I always loved these books. Once you got a complete book series, you can sell it to our GOGHero who will then put it into his public library for all to read. (Again, no DRM here! Also mimicking GOGs constant effort to hunt down old classics.)
-His followers constantly refer to obscure and ancient books the average citizen has probably never heard about. (Because GOG features many old classics that I would have never known were it not for them.)
-Whenever you visit him he might give you a cookie. (If you don't already have one in your inventory.)

-I wanted to say he loves cheese, but someone already covered this idea, so...

Race: Human or maybe elf.
Occupation: Political speaker and professional soap box operator. Maybe he is a merchant, though heir of a noble family would work too. Chose the one fitting best into the environment.

OR

Now that I think about it, maybe GOGHero should just be a Robin Hood-esque heroine. She lives in the forest but aside from that could have the same quirks as mentioned above. Her story would be similar to that of Robin Hood: A returned veteran soldier turned noble rogue.

Natashka is a thief. She is a very good thief, which is a good thing for she is a very bad people person and even worse with other species. This is counterbalanced with her unnerving ability to attract the Undead, who seem to worship her for obscure reasons which she happily exploits in tight circumstances. Her life has been tough like most in the realm but she has always maintained a live and let live philosophy, and is truly shocked when her fleeced victims get riled up and upset, calling for her head. She has been heard to laugh and taunt them, dancing around their attacks using her fast reflexes to dodge and eventually escape after picking their pockets once again. She never unduly harms her targets unless cornered though has been known to be viscous against those who harm the helpless. For this reason she has been banned in more than a few towns and larger cities while yet avoiding outright warrants calling for her head on a pike. Her sense of humor is legendary with recounts of her pranks growing with every retelling. She does not expect to live a long life but is content that it will be full and zesty.

Traits:
Bold
Egotistical
Renegade

Quirk:
Gets drunk very easily, one ale will blur her sight and make the world spin, for this reason she avoids alcohol unless in a safe place to imbibe.

Fear/loss:
Orphaned at 6 she was left to scavenge in the filthy slums of a major city, almost dying that first winter of starvation and cold. What she did to survive during that time she never talks about, her ready smile will fade if pressed for details, redirecting the conversation instead to the Thieves Guild that took her in. To this day she has been known to give a portion of her loot to orphanages or to those down on their luck though she will vehemently deny it.

Race:
Human

Background:
Female, 27, lanky and tall with a ready smile and almond shaped eyes, thief, fiercely loyal to her small circle of friends, antagonistic to all authority figures, aggressive against the cruel and unjust
