mistermumbles: I've been checking the KS more or less on a daily basis because I knew this one was going to be a close one. Just from the start I thought 24 days was a bit short for the campaign. Lo and behold, at best it'll limp across the finish line.

Reever: They made it! Yeah!
Good stuff! I wasn't willing to back it, but I wanted them to make it.
avatar
mistermumbles: I bet it's a combination of KS fatigue and it being more of a niche genre with not that low a goal.

Alm888: IMO, a reasonably high goal is a nice way to show that you mean business. After all, you can not make a sophisticated game for just $10000 ("Visual Novels" being an exception). Normally I do not even bother looking at projects with goals less than $50000.
I think "The Escapists" is quite a sophisticated game for its kind.

Prisma & the Masquerade Menace

Happily they offer DRM-free right in the pledge descriptions. I'll probably increase my backing at some point, right now I'm just a little put off by the higher pledge tiers. The prices are a bit high in my estimation for levels with the artbook and soundtrack, and being a completionist that's usually the level I go for. Still, the base game for $10 is a good deal.

Happily they offer DRM-free right in the pledge descriptions.
However, the second paragraph of the campaign description says:
The game will be released for PC/Mac/Linux on Steam and Windows Store. Additionally, we'd like to launch it on Xbox, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PS Vita - but ports for these consoles will only be possible after achieving labeled stretch goals!
Hmmm...

Ah, didn't catch that. I'll ping them for clarification.
Further clarification on Prisma & the Masquerade Menace. I received this response from the devs:

Thanks for backing. DRM free will be via Steam Key.
We will be updating our FAQ shortly with that information as well.

I let them know that a lot of folks don't consider Steam to be DRM-free. I'm going to withdraw funding for now, though they may change their distribution method based on the feedback.

UPDATE: The devs did indeed get back in touch with me and solicited more information about where to distribute DRM-free versions. So hopefully we'll hear more from them once they've had a chance to review what I've sent them. Of course I suggested submitting the game to GOG, and told them about GOG's In Dev program too.

rgnrk: Anew: The Distant Light

Looks pretty good. Unfortunately, as is the norm now in kickstarter with more ambitions projects, there's no mention of drm-free at all. So those early backers spots will be missed by those waiting for it. Oh, those good old days of kickstarter were everyone demanded the projects to be drm-free!
From the comments, answering to a question about drm-free (preferably on GOG) for those who can't stand Steam:
"We understand that not all of you have a deep-seated love for Steam. All options are on the table currently as far as PC distribution goes. We can't promise anything at this point, but we are aware of DRM-free on GOG!."

And then:
"Also, the plan is to have physical media (box set) be DRM-free. We intend to have at least one digital distribution mechanism that is DRM-free."

And I guess afterwards they updated the FAQ with information:
"We’re gamers too and we know these can be annoying. The plan is to have the physical media (box set) be DRM-free. We intend to have at least one digital distribution mechanism that is DRM-free. We will only use DRM where required by a distributor."
The Mysteries of Cow Island - The Mysteries of Cow Island is an adventure game in the style of Sam and Max and Monkey Island -- wacky, warped, and a joy to play

The title alone caught my interest. The world NEEDS more P&C adventure games like Monkey Island, Sam & Max, and Maniac Mansion. ( :

The main page only mentions steam, but I asked him about it, and I think he's looking into GOG, and DRM-free now. ( :
If he decides against DRM-free, I'll be withdrawing my pledge.

The title alone made me lose interest. They can't possibly be even halfway as good as Monkey Island, so they should come up with something more original. Of course, this could be a parody, but how is a parody of a comedy going to be like?
It really doesn't help that they don't show any pictures (WIP, concept, or others) of the game and their KS page doesn't even have a video. In fact, even their text description doesn't mention what exact genre this is supposed to be, what kind of graphical style it is supposed to have, or give even the most simple hint of plot setting.

And of course, their description really doesn't make much sense otherwise either. First they say "We plan to fill this gap with a genuine retelling of 80's computing", but later they say "[AGS] is free, and it can do 1990s adventure games very, very well". So which is it? Are they trying to recreate the 80s or 90s adventure style?

I would be very cautious to back this one. Projects with much, much more detailed plans have failed, and these guys don't even seem to have any plans at all.
I hope to be proven wrong here.
Apocalypse Now's Kickstarter has been cancelled, since they were less than 20% funded with about a week left. They're still taking pledges on their site:

And when GOG rejects them for whatever reason, I'm sure they'll feel wonderful! :D
Beautiful Desolation is now funded!!! They've added a great stretch-goal. You can also now back on paypal!

2.5days left! get on board!

At least they'll be in good company, with a lot of other great games turned down by GOG. ;D
Sekai Project has just launched a Kickstarter to fund the a limited physical edition of A Clockwork Ley-Line trilogy. The translation of the game has been already accomplished internally and it will be released on Steam, Nutaku and Denpasoft. Thus, Kickstarter here is more of a pre-order campaign for a physical box.

Only half contents are translated now: https://sekaiproject.com/progress/
Anyway, I have backed the trilogy. Thank you for the information. :-)
