rgnrk: ... and another great looking and promising turn based rpg:

Stygian - A Lovecraftian Computer RPG

Unfortunately there's no word of a possible DRM-Free version yet, so no backing from me. I hope that changes, as I really like the art style and the archetypes.

SLP2000: They're GOG users and they want to release it here.

The art style is absolutely awesome.
Yes, I had just checked that they updated their FAQ with than info, backed and was just going to post that update when I saw your answer.

From their FAQ:
Will there be a DRM-free version?
We are avid GoG users ourselves and definitely want Stygian on that digital platform in addition to Steam.

So there's no reason not to back this project now ;)

Piranjade: DieselStörmers by Black Forest Games.

After the unsuccessful Ravensdale kickstarter (which I backed) BFG is giving the project a new chance under a different name and this time they offer a playable prototype.
This does not inspire confidence; though at least it's not as bad as Mr.Cardgame that took peoples money and gave them nothing in the end.

Well, the game got funded back then and is out now:

So your confidence in them or not, they delivered. Not sure why you felt the need to compare them to a scammer.

I consider all kickstarters scams; the percentage that I have taken part in that have turned out to be scams is unnacceptably high.
In fact unless it's from a well known and established maker I now no longer touch the kickstarters.
As the fact of the matter is though Kickstarter are suppose to facilitate communication between backers and creators, but good luck with any civil recourse up until the point you send kickstarter a request via lawyer and by that time see if you can FIND the creator.
I have less than 0% faith in Scamstarter.

I don't expect to be able to take civil recourse. I invest in a kickstarter project and that investment might fail. Such is the nature of investing IMO.
I'm sorry you were so unlucky. My track record with kickstarter is better (all projects I backed delivered) but I have only backed a handful (5 or so) and was very careful when choosing them.
Which is also why I chose to back a project by Black Forest Games. They are well-known here in Germany with presence at conventions like Gamescom, they have an experienced developer team, are an established "maker", work for other big companies when they are not developing their own games.
Black Forest Games have delivered on both of their kickstarter projects (GS: TD and RogueStörmers). So singling them out for the evils of kickstarter projects seems pretty unfair.

If that's the case, then you either have a very low acceptability threshold or an uncanny tendency to be attracted to shady KS campaigns. :P

Why do you bother following and posting in this thread then?

Personally I've supported over 30 KS projects, and all of them have either delivered (some very late, I'll admit) or are still in development. Given the fact that there are no guarantees when it comes to making video games, and how often games are cancelled by big publishers, I'd say the track record for KS projects is actually surprisingly good imo.

You either have a warped conception of what Kickstarter is (hint: it's NOT a fancy pre-order service), or have a weird definition of what a scam is (hint: devs making something different than what you imagined the final product would be is NOT a scam).

Rather you contribute to the development (monetarily), but yes.

Are most of the video game campaigns that you supported like THIS ONE? While there are few guarantees in life, there are definitely ways to weed out a shady campaign from a legitimate one. Personally, over the past two years, I have backed 33 video game projects. Of those, 4 have already released and the other 29 are still in various stages of development. Thus far, not a single one of them has stopped posting regular updates and many of them have already shipped their non-game rewards (stickers, previous games, etc.).

While there are campaigns that are [url=https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1949619644/controller-child-lock]CLEARLY scams, a little bit of due diligence on your part can significantly minimize your chance of betting on a lame horse. In addition, there are developers out there that are only considered established now because of Kickstarter.

There are always going to be people who try to take advantage of anything new and popular. Still, as the years pass and more and more people become wise to spotting bogus campaigns before they can fund, this sort of scamming greatly diminishes. Don't let this dissuade you from supporting talented people who could really deserve it. Without that support, some great things may [url=https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/infinitap/devastated-dreams]NEVER come to be.

Here is a campaign that I am surprised is not getting any traction at all:

Montague's Mount: Episode 2 + Episode 1 Redux

The developers, a husband and wife duo, funded development of Episode 1 themselves. They saw moderate success upon the game's launch, but they have since fallen on hard times. Their publisher went out of business and the wife gave birth to triplets, so their ability to self-fund and adequately market their game has basically disappeared. The Kickstarter will be their only shot at releasing Episode 2 and finally finishing the game. Pledge €15 for a copy of the finished game, or pledge €20 to also get a copy of Episode 1 immediately after the campaign ends. Currently, they only mention Steam keys, but I have messaged them about the possibility of a DRM-Free option.

EDIT: The devs responded to my message and said that they will be offering a DRM-Free version through their website and any other vendor that agrees to carry the game (presumably GOG). They also said that they will be updating the campaign page to reflect this information. However, as of yet, they have not done so.

cyboff: System Shock Remastered KS campaign has a launch date: June 29.

It's live now.

Already cleaned out of Early Birds, but I went for the Big Box anyway.

Linux is a stretch goal. Other than that - sounds good. I'll back them if Linux support will be guaranteed (moved to base, or stretch goal will be reached).

I hate campaigns with Linux as a stretch. Makes it complicated for penguins to support.
