This has nothing to do with good books or regional locks, but I'm watching a thing on NatGeo right now about rogue waves and tsunamis, and I just wanted to come in and say to all of you who live on an island or a coast line: YOU'RE ALL NUTS! :P
avatar
moonshineshadow: And honestly gog getting bigger is just a stupid argument. No matter how big a company is, the laws are still the same.
I know, I was just saying what someone told me earlier today. Hopefully the few games are all that will be locked, while that's a shame, at least it will allow GOG to offer more German language versions of their games.

avatar
CarrionCrow: The problem is that GOG has to play by the same rules in the end. Whether or not the rules are stupid, they still have to play by them.

Some people seem to want GOG to go head-to-head legally with the different governments to make the changes, but I'm figuring that GOG's not exactly willing to spend years and who knows how much money fighting these battles.

In the end, their principles will lose every time versus the legality of it all. The people who run GOG aren't going to torch everything they've built to make a comparatively very small statement.
I agree, I am not having a go at GOG, I can understand why they are doing it. I am not about to get mad at GOG for not challenging a country's legal system, especially over a few games.

Great, so I live in Iowa and we get flooded 1/2 off the map. :-)

CarrionCrow: Those boots like silly and utterly impractical for jumping around.

It's going to get a lot less appealing when people start breaking their ankles. -laughs-

EndreWhiteMane: Boots?

Edit: nvr mind, I see them now. ;)
Yeah, the otherwise general lack of clothing made the boots that much easier to spot in my case. ;)

moonshineshadow: That is true. At the moment I am just not sure if they really spend time looking clearly into the laws. There are too many unanswered questions. But you are right there is no meaning for gog to go into battles with laws that are there. That is not their job, it is a problem of the different countries. The only thing I wish for is that gog has someone with knowledge really look into the laws and not do their business by common standards other companies are using since these are often more restricted than the laws really require.
That would be good. Maybe GOG will get around to checking into the whole thing at some point.

Wouldn't place bets on when they'll do it, though.

Ragnarblackmane: Not really, I posted here awhile ago about my father being in the hospital and his situation hardly improving, he spent some weeks at one of the worst rehab/old folk's homes I've ever heard of or seen(note to self:Die before I let someone put me in such a hole) then was moved back to the hospital after suffering bedsores and for a biopsy. Well, the doctor who performed the biopsy, despite having a "stellar reputation" managed to mash down nerves near his spine which caused numbness and eventually excruciating pain in his right leg. He's being taken over to a different rehab center soon, either this evening or tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile starting at about Sunday morning at 3am my mom got flu-like symptoms and luckily I was staying over so was able to take care of her. We were hopeful it was just a 24 hour bug but she became ill again sometime yesterday, went to the doctor today to see if she had mursa which she might have gotten from visiting my dad in the hospital and spending most of her days there, then got sent to get a test for blood clots in her leg, but luckily they didn't find proof of that.

It's been a hellish few days.
Just got home from visiting my dad.My mom insisted on going despite having intense pain and other unpleasant health issues, so I drove us in spite of misgivings.
The new rehab center seems a lot nicer, newer, and cleaner than the other place. My dad was really out of it when we arrived, they had just settled him in and he was still on a painkiller cocktail. The worst part is that my mom and I bickered over some trivial nonsense about the paperwork and errata which obviously put stress on my dad. I felt terrible and I'm sure she does but lately our relationship has been adversarial, we're a lot alike and deal with stress the same way.

Thanks to endre, lordtrek, adalia, and LaPtiteBete for the hugs and concern. I often don't like discussing my problems here because I figure "who cares, who should care, everyone else has things going on in their lives" and I trust very few people with these things normally. Lately, though, that faith has been shaken.

Yeah, me neither. I get the whole "GOG is the PC gaming savior" thing, but that seems to be just a little bit too much, expectation-wise.

We've got DRM-free for a boatload of really good titles, which in this day and age is pretty frigging amazing.

But other than that, people getting their hopes up about every single thing like GOG's going to jump in the ring is just a formula for massive disappointment.
ok, I'll try to get at least 3-4h hours sleep *good night hugs* see you all later

Glad he's in a better facility now, that should help a lot.
This thread, among many things, has been a place we go to for support when we need it.
There are few members here, but some of the best people I've ever met, don't be a stranger.
Best of luck to all of you.

That all sounds like a massive godsdamned mess, and I'm sorry you and yours have to go through that.

Don't worry about self-censoring what you say. You're welcome here, whether you're in a good mood or bad, good situation or bad.
Good night hug?
