EndreWhiteMane: Glad to hear that.
No, not yet. Went to work for a bit and just got back. I'm sure I'll have an epiphany sooner or later. :-)
I guess it goes on what kind of mood you are in. One is a story driven game that should last a few hours with little replay, the other seems like it could give you many many hours of relaxing gameplay. Although the fishing is a little infuriating from what I hear. And do you know how hard it has been to resist just gifting you one of them to help you with your choice. I should get a medal for this kind of restraint. :-)

It's been okay... Ups and downs, but it all averages out to make a decent day :-)

Trying to relax my brain a bit with Duke Nukem Manhattan Project. I wonder - did people actually like the character Duke back in the '90s? I can't stand him...

Maybe we can make you a "I Resisted Gifting" badge. :-)
But seriously, the games on my list are too pricey for that. That's what sales are for. ;)

Glad to hear it has been a decent day overall. *big happy hug*

I have never played Duke Manhattan. I saw it here a few times, but just never thought I would play it so I left it. I like Duke 3D, but that is the only one I have played. I am not sure I liked it for Duke, but more so for the fun gameplay on Duke 3D, and the sheer size and all the secrets and things.

Would it see much use on this thread? :-)

I know, that is part of the reason I have resisted.
*sigh* looks like the HDD is actually dead this time ....oh well at least the other one still works....

Thank you *big return hug*
I already feared something like that after it refused to boot earlier...but it was only the Linux partition after all so no harm done - because no important data was on that partition....still sad because i recently reinstalled Debian on it....

Guess it's another sign that i have to get a new computer soon :)

At least you did not lose anything important, that is good. But I can see why you are sad due to losing the HDD and all the time you spent installing that nerdy operating system. :-)

Will you be getting a nice gaming computer when you eventually get a new one?

Indeed. Nerdy OS? That fancy nerdy and FOSS OS actually ran better than Windows when i had the R seminar ;)
Not to mention that it's less resource hungry ;)

Well i two different options in mind. Either buying a gaming laptop (which is really expensive though) or just build a new gaming desktop system (got some goos suggestions already) :).

I should have known better than to tease a nerd. :-)

But I am only playing. Linux would probably be my choice if I had to pick between that or Windows 8 and onwards, especially as I never intend to use Windows 10 NSA edition. :-)

If it was me, I would go for the gaming PC. They seem to be cheaper so you can get much more for your money (spec wise), you can upgrade it yourself and replace parts, and often games don't seem to run too well on a laptop. Are gaming laptops a popular thing these days?

Damn right :D
Well all the NSA stuff aside Windows 10 is a decent system but i look for alternatives nonetheless - as i told Crow yesterday i am actually looking into the possibility of having Windows only in a Virtual Machine when i have a new computer.

The interesting thing for me is the mobilitly and the smaller space requirements but i currently tend towards a gaming pc due to the really ridiculous prices of really good gaming laptops...

Would dual boot not be better for your Windows if you are using it for gaming etc? It would run a lot better as you are not running one OS on top of another at the same time. But I guess if you don't need it for gaming it should be okay, I know I used to use a VM for Windows and it was fine for most things that did not require a lot of system resources.

I can see that as a plus, but it is a shame about the high price.

Well that's definitely the alternative. Preferably with Windows 7 although that might be difficult to get nowadays....
Before i actually decide on that i want to learn more about Wine/Crossover though....
For the non-gaming part i wouldn't need Windows already because i often use Open Source software anyway (although i switch between LibreOffice and MS Office as i have a University licence for it)

Yes...that's the big problem...

I know, with all the cross platform open source software out there Windows kind of lost its monopoly on many things. I only needed it for a few applications that were windows only. Other than that Windows was just there for gaming.

I have often wondered why there is not a really user friendly (as in idiot proof) version of Linux. Often people are scared off Linux, and if it was made more user friendly then I would imagine more Windows users would give it a try. Unless there is already one like that, in which case just ignore me as I know very little about the Penguins. :-)

Right. You're using a Mac otherwise if i'm not mistaken...
But that's exactly the point ...aside from gaming and some other Windows-only apllications (we had real problems converting of dictaphone files in Copenhagen with only Mac and Linux ^^) i don't need it...

Well i guess that Linux Mint and/or Ubuntu might be considered user-friendly - those were at least the distributions that got me into Linux. Currently i'm using the papa of both, Debian. The main problem might be the sheer variety of Linux distributions with different target audiences and attitude in terms of free software.
