ddickinson: Only if it works. It seems that in practically every book and movie it almost always fails. You might end up in the far distant future with the Morlocks, or maybe in the old west with the Doc. :-)
Well the slingshot maneuvre in Star Trek worked..but that would require space vessel capable of warp speed....which is theoretically possible within the laws of physics....
avatar
Empress_Owl: No, I'd prefer a young and sexy David Bowie :) ... deal with it ):-| ... you're the specialist. We'll see who should come and help for the owlnapping when the machine is done, anyway...
Well i'm trying ... but there is still the problem called "laws of physics". Travelling into the future is not a big problem due to relativistic effects but travelling to the past can be a challenge.....hm.... :)

You are just making it too complicated. The character in H.G. Wells' The Time Machine did not need warp enables space craft, and all that Christopher Lloyd needed was a Delorean and some garbage. :-)
Has anyone mentioned that getting a Delorean up to 80 mph is virtually impossible? :P

Great looking car, tiny engine, covered in stainless steel. You do the math. XD

ddickinson: I know, who would have a crush on him when you had the lovely Jennifer Connelly in that movie. :-)
Definitely !!! :D Eer... I mean...nevermind. :-\

avatar
ddickinson: So we now know your perfect 10. We will get to work on it all for you. Of course, it all depends on ELT and the time machine. So if we can't, then blame ELT. ;-)
*big silly hug*
Thanks for doing all this for me :)
And if someone fails, it will be ElT's fault, as always... that sounds good. :))

Yes... See if you can fold the universe, or something like that... create tunnels... whatever...

May I have an Aston Martin instead ?... like James Bond B-| ...
Or an old fancy Jaguar... I'm not hard to please.

Well wasn't it 88 mph? :P

Well folding the universe would send us into the future....i have to think about a method to avoid that ;)

We could always just strap some really big rockets to it. :-)

(Don't tell anyone, but I had a little crush on her when I saw that film. I saw it years after it was made obviously, but when I saw it in school I did have a little crush on her.)

You are very welcome, we will gladly commit all these crimes for you. I mean, kidnapping, slavery, sex trade, forced labour, and I guess time travel could be seen as a crime against the natural order of the galaxy. :-)

And you can have any car you like, just let ELT know. :-)

So, a serious question for you. As a (mad :-)) scientist, do you find it strange that some scientist in this day and age are so close-minded? I mean many still claim there is no life in the galaxy but here, yet we have not even seen any of the galaxy really, and how arrogant would you have to be to think there is no life anywhere but here. They also refuse to accept that some things we think are right could be wrong. Don't forget we used to think the world was flat. Sometimes modern science seems like we are back in the days of Galileo.

Ha... then send us to a future where you would have found a solution to fold the universe backwards and get us back in the past :D

Hihi... I had a crush on her too, to be honest... who wouldn't ! :)
Hum... I hope you won't get caught by the police then, I wouldn't like you to be thrown in other Oubliettes than mine... well, if it happens, I'll send Agent to rescue you and burn the prison to the ground :)
Oh, ok... that one, ElT, please !!! :))

Well modern sciences can only work with what is there...and especially physics have some interesting problems like the search for the ultimate theory..maybe CERN can help with that at some point but then again my knowledge of that physics is rather limited although i find that really fascinating.

But the World being a sphere was generally accepted from 7. / 8. century onwards...it's a myth that it was believed during the lifetime of Galileo.

Only some strange person with bad taste. :-)

It's okay, I will be using people like ELT and Agent to do all the dirty work, so if they get caught I will be fine and I can see about getting someone else to try until we get you your Bowie. :-)

That is a very good choice, and much better than a Delorian.

But assuming i find a solution in the future...shouldn't you then already have David Bowie in your basement? Or at least soon(™)? ;)

My reference to Galileo was not about the world being flat, but about him being imprisoned for saying the Earth was not the centre of the universe. I have read quite a lot of articles more recently on different fields that seem so close minded. I guess they are written by the more arrogant part of the field, the ones who like to think they are superior and so admitting to other possibilities would damage their ego.

Why in the hell would anyone have David Bowie in their basement? All I have down in my basement is my secret lab where I'm currently attempting to fabricate a working prototype of the Oscillation Overthruster. A few more copper wire snips and a jolt from the neo-magnetic resonator packs and I'm saying hello to the 8th dimension.
