LaPtiteBete: Do you think they will still run on Windows 8 ?... :-| I didn't even dare to try..
avatar
tinyE: I honestly don't know. I found an installer for RA 1/C&C 1 that requires the disc (which I have) and makes it run really smoothly on WIn 7, but I don;t know about 8. C&C TS and RA 2 run fine on Win 7 without anything. I would be shocked if there wasn't something like that for Win 8 users, if that is the games don't work as is. Kind of shitty answer that isn't really an answer. :P
Well, thanks ; at least you didn't tell it didn't work, there is still hope. So, I guess I'll have to try and figure out by myself... !! :)

LaPtiteBete: COMBO !.......... FATALITY !!!! +__+
A book fair... awesome !! :-)
[EDIT : you already answered n__n]
Hey Owl! Yes, I'm really looking forward to it, it was a lot of fun last year. :)

ElTerprise: Command & Conquer had the problem that except from Renegade and Red Alert 2 all games were censored in Germany (Generals and Tiberium Wars both even had an censored and an uncensored version....)
Censored ?.... Again ??? >:-| ..... Why ??

EndreWhiteMane: Your partner must be a VERY strong willed person if she can tell you what to do. :-)
Hi DD.

ddickinson: She can wrap me around her little finger. And she would have to be strong willed to put up with someone like me for as long as she has. :-)

Hello, Endre!

How are you today? You missed all the talk about Moon swimming naked. Did you know that the lake she went to has a nudist beach on it? The most popular in all of Hungary. :-)
I have a ring around my eye from the telescope eyepiece. Didn't see her there though.
Spoil sport. ;)
Ad OpenRA - hard to imagine they won't get shut by a cease and desist. Using words like GDI, etc. Alien Assault, a game formerly known as Space Hulk remake, had to remove all references to GW universe, including weapon names, etc.

I am not sure if it's because mine is the box set (called the First Decade), but there was a patch for my version that removed the requirement for the CD on all of the games. It sure saves a lot of wear to the discs.

LaPtiteBete: Anyway they are not available here.... I was just daydreaming ;-)
So... many of them still worked on Windows 7... ? interesting... I might give them a try on Windows 8... before my CDR turn into dust...
A few of them have a colour issue on Windows 7, but ending explorer.exe while playing the game fixes that. But for the most part they run really well, at least I have never had any problems with them. It would be nice to see them here, but I doubt EA would do that anytime soon, or Microsoft for that matter (do we have any Microsoft games here?).

FearfulSymmetry: Good to hear you've regained some of your energy, and that you had a lovely weekend! :)

Yep, I think I spent around 50 euros last time for fifteen books (but they're all new as well, not second-hand, so it's pretty good value). I did even better in England a few weeks ago, because I bought fourteen books for less than 25 pounds.
There are some really nice places in England to get some good deals on books. I am supposed to be sticking to my kindle more these days, to save space, but I prefer paper books a lot more than ebooks, and I am still allowed to get my historical books and things like that in good old paper and ink. :-)

avatar
ElTerprise: Glad to hear that :).
Yes. I need to look at my shelf with pc games to find out which games will still run on Windows 8.1.
Yes Age of Empires 2 is a great game. I often played it in multiplayer with a friend using his disc :)
Age of Mythology was fantastic. I think i played through the campaign three or four times :)
That sounds like a really nice collection. Command & Conquer had the problem that except from Renegade and Red Alert 2 all games were censored in Germany (Generals and Tiberium Wars both even had an censored and an uncensored version....)
I wonder why they were censored, they are hardly the most violent games, and there was no Nazi stuff in sight. I guess Red Alert did feature a Hitler cameo, but that was about it.

Are you sure? Or did Moon threaten you to not tell anyone you caught her. Just release the pictures, she can't hurt you once they are public. (Well, she can, but by then the pictures are already out there for everyone to see.) :-)

*hides before Moon reads us talking about her naked holiday activities again* :-)

Are Valkyrie wings removable?

The humans in generals were turned into cyborgs...
Has anybody experience using Fraps, Bandicam and the like? I'm after some good game capturing software but have no idea which programs are worth using. Personal recommendation from people I trust (now there's a compliment) will help make my mind up ;-)
avatar
LaPtiteBete: Censored ?.... Again ??? >:-| ..... Why ??
Well where should i start. *clears throat*
- C&C was censored due to violence. Human were replaced by cyborgs due to this the story was altered and some video were edited...

- RA1 was censored due to violence and the reference to Hitler. The Hell March was altered, The intro changed on top of the same edits like in C&C

- Tiberian Sun: Basically the same edits like C&C

- RA 2 and Renegade are uncensored in Germany

- Generals was censored due to the context. Humans became cyborgs again, Faction names were altered all references to Real-world places were altered the intro was edited....and the suicide bomber became a driving bomb

- and Tiberium Wars had a censored 16+ Version and an uncensored 18+ Version. The only differences are the suicide bomber acts differently and the name of the Atomic bomb was changed.

Are Valkyrie wings removable?
Well that depends. Not all sources say they have wings, so it's possible they are removable. But if you saw anyone with wings, then it's a safe bet that that was Moon. :-)

Soccorro: The humans in generals were turned into cyborgs...
In which game?

Never mind, I saw ELT's post above and realise what you were talking about.

Well the Hitler cameo was cut (of course) and there were edits due to violence.

I must say, you Germans have a really strange way of looking at things. The amount of censoring almost seems like your government is so scared of people seeing any kind of violence, yet they allow it in so many other mediums.

It's time to hug.

I have never understood that attitude with Germans, like banning the Swastika, which is an authentic religious symbol all around the world. Your government can't erase it's past by pretending these things never existed, and blocking them will do no good. Only by acknowledging our pasts can we hope to learn from then, not by ignoring them and almost pretending they never existed.

How are you today? Is your girlfriend back with you?
