Yes, I do. Although I cut a bit my finger with broken glass.
How about you?

AgentBirdnest: Doing pretty well. Head is aching as usual, but it isn't too terrible.

How are you? How is that injury feeling?

It must be the camera ;-) ... Only Owl can read my mind (or so she tells me) :-|
Glad to hear it, hopefully your headache will start to feel better soon.

I am good, thank you. I got a few hour sleep, so still tired, but not doing so bad. My muscle ache is still causing a few problems, but nothing serious.

So Owl is a mind reader as well? We must keep her away from Endre, he could corrupt her with all his dirty thoughts about Mormon nurses. :-)

ddickinson: I think the whole fan-service thing is going too far these days. not just with comics but with things like games as well. So much sex, nudity, and sexual topics, mostly just for eye candy and fan service. You would think everyone was some horny teenage boy, not a bunch of adults playing the games and reading the comics.

Out of curiosity, and not that you would necessarily know, but is the largest customer base for comics like Batman adults or children readers?
Well if you're want to talk about fanservice it could be argued that the 80's Starfire Teen Titans revival by the Wolfman/Perez duo is nothing more than that.

And yet it wasn't because it kind of made sense, and despite how much skin she was always showing, it always fell short of being just smut and managed to keep itself on the side of tasteful.
Still I can assure you, many a 13 year old got his jollies from her.
For me it was Jim Lee's Rogue, oh my...

Unfortunately I do know that the target demographic for most comic books today and that includes Batman, has shifted and now focuses on ages from teenagers onwards. With a very large chunk of its customer base being definitely adults, and very few children.

Some people (myself included) claim that this is part of the problem that has caused the comic book industry to suffer financially, even if it has matured artistically. A small example, back in the late 80's Spider-man used to sell more than 2 million every month. Nowadays it's a good month if they pass the 100K mark.

Ah, that reminds me! My favorite Mormon nurse just got home yesterday after 18 months in the Philippines! We don't live very close to each other anymore though, so it will be a while before I can see her again. Still, I'm so happy for her and her family \o/
for those interested, I think the supreme ruler games (noticed 2020 was on sale) are quite allright; perhaps a bit in the rough, but certainly good for wasting many hours raising Belgium into a global superpower (speaking from experience). It has good enough economy and civil managenment, expanding your economy and building up industry is quite fun. Military action is a bit rough, controls are sometimes ankward, but it gets the job done.

Diplomacy kind of works, but is nothing to write home about.

the game is rather deep (and rather opaque) when you first fire it up, the tutorials are not much help except figuring out where the buttons are, but you (I myself at least) quickly get more knowledge about the games's workings as you go along your first few games.

A reserved recomendation for those in nation/economic/global management, I myself at least enjoyed it and keep enjoying it (soon, Russia, soon ... what?! The Fins invaded and conquered Russia?! With aid of New Zealand?! *wipes a clean slate for his planbook and starts plotting anew*)

I have never seen Teen Titans, but I know the kind of outfits the female superheroes tend to wear. Is Jim Lee's Rogue the one from the 90s cartoon? I used to love that series.

Is the drop in sales due to increased prices? Usually things with a niche market tend to overcharge, just loot at Games Workshop. Or maybe the content is just not as good, or people are put off by the amount of fan-serivce now?

Thank you. *big thank you hug*

That's great news. Just don't tell Endre, otherwise you will never see her again (as she will be living in Endre's basement with all the other nurses). :-)

I think GOg might have have overrreached with the length of the sale. Now that we're on repeat cycles for the 12 hour deals. I expect the volume of sales to have dropped significantly.

Or maybe not, maybe the have a math major that has applied statistical probability and market analysis to a formula and worked out the optimum time length for the sale.

Or maybe they just wanted to start earlier but concide with the end of the steam sale.

Or maybe these mushrooms aren't the kind you put on rice?
Good morning, folks! I hope you've all been well!
Sarge is a little sick this morning, so we're going to cancel his training today and take him to the vet. It's been a busy and trying few days, but I'm glad it's the weekend. I just hope this little guy gets to feeling better soon.
Hugs all around! I'd hand out coffee, but I haven't had the chance to make any yet. Soon, soon. ;)
Are there any bundles you people are hoping will make an appearance today?

Maybe we will get something different for the last week?

If they had put less games on sale each day then it would have lasted a little longer, but even then it would have led to repeats. Although they can't beat Steam, they could still compete, so it seems strange they allow the sale to stagnate so much.

Good morning!

I hope it is nothing serious with your little Sarge and that he will be okay. Hopefully the vet will be able to help and you can all enjoy a nice weekend.

I'd say the increased prices are a consequence of the drop in sales. It's a vicious circle, I know. I wouldn't say the quality has decreased, in fact I'd say it has increased overall. The art for example, is incredible to what we had in earlier decades and shows an amazing amount of both talent and technique. The writing has gotten better too, becoming more mature and complex with better character development, introspection and better thought out plots than "I am a villain I do evil stuff because I'm bad". Of course that's an overall view of the whole. If you pick up individual issues you will still find many a facepalm worthy story.

80's starfire outfit was partly justified because she came from a society where clothing was entirely optional, which caused a few funny fanservicey moments of culture clash. However, both Perez and Wolfman were masters of their craft AND those comics were still aimed at children, so they never let things get too raunchy.

Yes, that's the Rogue, she got a slight redesign after she switched sides and joined the X-men (she was originally part of the brotherhood), making her slightly more youthful and attractive. Jim Lee finally cinched it with the yellow and green skintight bodyglove and the flight jacket.

Many posters were sold of her.

The fanservice never puts off a healthy hormonal teenager, the constipated faces however... It's a mystery how Rob Liefeld still finds work.

On a completely unrelated note, someone's grilling sardines somewhere.

X-Men was always my favourite Marvel cartoon when I was younger. It was so much cooler and had such great and varied stories. I was not a fan of things like Spiderman, it was just one city and all the stories were just the same - there is only so much you can do in one location. I used to enjoy the Batman series, the one with Mark Hamill as joker. In fact, there were lots of great cartoons in the 80s and 90s. From what I have seen of the more modern cartoons they seem horrible now.
