CarrionCrow: Yeah, the site Bundle of Holding works with has thousands of PDF's for people to buy. They can still be overpriced at times, but they do largely help with the increasing cost of physical copy game books.
Okay I just learned TWO things - I saw bundle and immediately thought of the key sellers people use - didn't realize Bundle of Holding was the actual site, dedicated to PDFs. Might take a peek over there sometime, thanks!

CarrionCrow: I enjoy books with good writing, good settings, interesting ways of looking at things.
Also, it's a bit of a habit since I got my first book at age 12. The multiplayer thing doesn't really happen since I'm pretty frigging far from social offline, but I still enjoy the material.

EndreWhiteMane: Gotcha, never seen a PnP game so I had no idea what it consisted of. ;)
A few people, someone running the story, the other people playing as characters in it, typically a core rulebook for each person and something that includes any special rules that the storyrunner might need, some dice and you're good.
(For the basics, anyway. Pretty much all pen and paper games have expansions coming out of their ears, more content if you're willing to pay for it.)

Not a problem. They put out cheap bundles and frequently have good games on there, so I figured I'd mention it.

GhostwriterDoF: Yesterday I tried to set up a GoG user wiki profile but they are not allowing new registrations, and I’m not sure who to contact (it says to contact an administrator).
avatar
CarrionCrow: Okay, step one - go here, do what it says, and once you have the script loaded, send a PM to Barefoot_Monkey requesting a GOGWiki account. That should do it.
Aye... will Firefox be sufficient to get this all set up? I usually use Explorer for everything.

<cringles at the thought changes in habit>

If you keep mentioning Icewind Dale, I'm really going to have to install it.

Also yesterday, I found a manual for a game Death Gate, I had long ago,
but can't find the disc, (or floppy) for it... heh! Anyone remember this game?

Firefox should work. It's what I use and everything runs well.

Tell me about it, all the conversation involving the game was why I ended up installing it.

Very, very vaguely...I think I saw it once at the local game store roughly 20 years ago. Never got a chance to play it, though.

CarrionCrow: I still have a few Battletech books, some old World of Darkness stuff like the final revised core Vampire book, Freak Legion, Hunter, stuff like that.

No clue, I always wished that came out in English. I like In Nomine, but after hearing it was an adaptation of the title you mentioned, I wanted to read it.

They're putting out a new edition of Mutant Chronicles. If it does well, maybe a new Warzone will show up to go with it. It'd make sense being based in the same world.

Warmachine looks good, but I'd probably buy a digital version first. No point in stacking miniatures with no one to play against.

Additional - wasn't the full title of that game In Nomine Satanis Magna Veritas? That sounds right, wanted to guess without immediately running off to Google to check.
I didn't know about Mutant Chronicles being resurrected, but that's good news.

Don't hold out for the videogame version of Warmachine, it's supposed to be complete and utter shit. And at least half of the negative steam review are by people who claim to be kickstarter backers.

Since Magna Veritas/In nomine Satanis (the new american version took out the Satanis part didn't it?) was both french and based in France, it was relatively easy for the publishers here to both translate and adapt. I suspect that some of the written adventures which take place somewhere in the middle nowhere had just their names changed.

Oh, and Inifinity happens to be Gaelician. I was surprised.

EDIT: That's right, it was, memory must have played a trick on me and I switched the order of the names.

We might have called it Magna Veritas when we didn't want people to start screaming, but always referred to it as in nomine Satanis amongs ourselves.

That and it was an unwritten rule never to start first time players with In Nomine, you give them a demon to play and you don't know the idiocy they can get themselves into.

GhostwriterDoF:
Here you go!

I did a followup writeup on Drox. I was having a blast solving one problem and actually using the game diplomacy systems as I saw fit, but then lost (most likely due to dying too many times?).

The next sector turned out to be more of the arbitrary "fail" - I think the randomness of the game can often set me up for impossible situations. I read a few of the reviews and it seems like a couple people echo my sentiments.

The shame of it is, when I get it all going it really does seem like I'm having an impact on this dynamic world. But sometimes (either because I'm working the world "wrong" for that sector, failing to react properly or just damn random toss of the die bad starts) it's just frustrating.

I had a great moment last night when, just by tweaking gear I turned my ship from a slow, heavily armored vessel into something nimble and quick. A ton of fun to see raw numbers translate into performance. Then I realized I'm once again doomed in my current sector :( A game of ups and downs. I'm going to give it a bit more time as there are enough tidbits of things I really enjoy - let's hope my issues are learning curve issues and not annoying game issues...

I'm not surprised. It seems like tabletop games aren't being translated into video games very well, generally.

Yes, it did. The adaptation is just called In Nomine. All the potentially offensive parts of the title got chopped.
Also, the original is supposed to be more tongue-in-cheek humorous at times, but the American version is played completely seriously.
Any C&C fans here? Is it me or is Firestorm unconscionably hard?

Death Gate is a great game with a rather poor title.
I have it for DOS around here somewhere.

I have a board game of this from like 20 years ago LOL! Almost like Hero Quest, but the "campaign" was more a series of skirmishes than a story. Nice upgrades that carried over and the "boards" for the individual soldiers were great, even though the main "gameboard" tiles sucked.

Haven't played it - actually haven't even heard of that one :( I'm fairly terrible at RTS games and while I like some of the ones with "wrinkles" to them (I liked Medieval, I LOVED King Arthur, I liked Soldiers: HOWW2) I always hit a wall in traditional ones (think games like C&C, Starcraft, etc).

You could play it both ways, but there was a lot of humour to be had, for example, you could play an angel whose mortal cover was being a right wing nut radio pundit. Or a racist sexist, fundamentalist cop that only managed to get out of troube with internal affairs thanks to his connections. The same could go with demons, but the background allowed for extremely dark and somber games if the game master wanted to go in that direction.

The humour was shown most clearly in the background stories for both the demon prince of crime and the archangel of winds, which had exactly the same story, with HUGE lampshadings in it about that very fact.

Hello, again!

I hope you are all still doing good?

I am just enjoying some heart shaped fruit jellies that my partner just dropped by to keep me going while I am at work. Very tasty. They look a little like these. Yummy! :-)

avatar
GhostwriterDoF: Paperwork? Are you requisitioning some new upgrades for your Power Armor?

I’m planning on reading through jOekerr’s other short story I missed yesterday,
and doing some work on my own writing too.

Yesterday I tried to set up a GoG user wiki profile but they are not allowing new registrations, and I’m not sure who to contact (it says to contact an administrator).

And I’m also shopping around for a bionic knee for Endre. :)
No, my Power Armour is fine. I do not think the Battle Sisters do much paperwork while requisitioning resources or killing Xeno and heretics. :-)

I assume you have been given some advice about your wiki page? Let us know when you have it set up. And brace yourself for the next sale. :-)

avatar
CarrionCrow: He'd be trading knee pain for severe mental trauma. Probably not the best possible option. -laughs-

Out the door does sound accurate, though. As in running out the door and heading for the hills.
We will deal with that when the time comes. So just put your dress on and grab a sponge. I will go tie him down. :-)

I enjoy the original games. And from what I remember, Firestorm is a nice challenge, especially on the harder levels. Which level are you finding unconscionably hard?
