The 2002 third-person survival horror shooter that serves as a sequel to John Carpenter’s genre-defining 1982 film is back, remastered by Nightdive Studios – The Thing: Remastered is coming soon on GOG!

You are Cpt J.F. Blake, leader of a U.S. Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the blood-curdling events and enigmatic deaths of the American scientific team that transpired at the Outpost 31 research facility located in the frozen wastelands of Antarctica. Within these inhospitable surroundings your team encounters a strange shape-shifting alien life-form that assumes the appearance of people that it kills. Trapped by the elements and infected by this horrific entity, using all your team members is critical if you hope to accomplish your objectives, let alone survive. If you only knew which ones were still human…

KeoniBoy: Blymie, couldn't be better! Call the waiter, so we can order another round of bubbly to celebrate being DDG, eh what?
Gotcha, you are just another troll. Any further engagment with you seems to be completely pointelss. Good to know, and you can be safely ignored in the future.

Am sure Sir Michael, of Cockney fame would reply thusly: Sod off, ya tosspot! LMFAO
I always wanted to play this so a remaster could be fun.

They made a great job of the System Shock Remake : one of the best games I played last year. Hopefully this one will be just as well executed. Hopefully some other old “classics” will get the same treatment.
.....once again, nobody talking about the dumpster fire save system??

Guess if they are not going to mention it, being one the worst things about the game.....probably still in it.

Can't remember it tbh - though I played it on PS2 so may be some differences.

Imagine an unstoppable long cut scene and then a difficult area, which is nearly impossible to beat. Then do this 20 times.......yeah, I wanna play this......but that save system better be at will/anywhere.

Remake =/= Remaster.

I loved the SS remake, and I'm grateful they went back to the original design rather than going with their sidetracked version. Anyway, Nightdive deserves major props for their actual remasters - Blade Runner being the exception - even if not all of them interest me. Also have to thank Bethesda for funding the free upgrades to Quake 1 & 2.

Hmmm... dont remember it like that but its been a LOOONG time!
Finally, good old game arriving here! Can't wait.

But please, bring more good old games. There are so many classics still missing....
Let's hope they fixed the game's broken "trust" mechanic. I doubt it, though.

Unfortunately it seems a lot of AAA publishers don't care about their old games anymore, or just put them on Steam like EA did a few months back.

But at least Nightdive (and some others) is doing what they can. :)

KeoniBoy: Blade Runner is MUCH better than the repellent, repulsive, stomach-churning 82 Thing.
lol
All right then, since you seem to be the expert on the original film, and I have not seen it, do you have a suggestion as to where the best print to watch it might be? As I don't have a blu-ray player, I'd prefer if you listed a streaming service. However, it wouldn't hurt to list a favorite DVD or BluRay print for those others like myself who haven't seen it yet.

Since you seem so impassioned about it, I think I need to see for myself.

And by the way, why so much hate for Carpenter's version? I know a lot of people will pick the original no matter what, and I can understand that, but you seem to have an actual hate for the Carpenter version, and I can't quite wrap my head around why that might be.

Nightdive, please include the original along with your remaster for the sake of completeness.

I already own the disc version, but would also love an all-in-one digital purchase!
