Ever played tennis in a graveyard or on a galleon against pirates? Well, soon you will, with Tennis Antics – coming soon on GOG!

Hitting the ball is only half the fun. Unlike conventional tennis, players win by making their opponents run out of energy. Never fear - because the racket is not your only weapon. While concentrating on returning the ball, players can collect fireballs, bombs and stacks of other items to give each and every participant that special chance of winning.

Wishlist it now!
awesome :D

now you could re-release Tennis Critters, a game from like 2002 or so
Oh, cool. It's an inferior surrogate version of Mario Tennis with none of the visual charm and twice the uncharming stereotyping.

I know actual Mario Tennis isn't realistic, but why Tennis Antics when we could have...squints furtively at Mobygames...Virtua Tennis? Top Spin? Tie Break? Advantage Tennis?

Instead of charging us for a game that was formerly (ad supported) freeware and then sold for 1 Euro by various barrel scrapers?

Tennis Antics was initially released by Pure Entertainment as a freeware game on it's freeloader.com website (with Pure hoping to earn back the development costs with adds). [sic] But after the failure of that business model, a Freeloader Gold subscription is / was required to download the game. Later Tennis Antics was also sold on CD-Rom by various budget publishers, while at the same time it was still available on several sites dedicated to freeware games.

The art style reminds me of things like Action Ball Deluxe, which is a shovelware game. Why is GOG releasing things that look like shovelware?

I have Actua Tennis, and it's just okay. I've been getting into Tennis Elbow lately though, loving the first person perspective. But, for kind of basically the same reasons you mentioned is why I wont buy Lego Star Wars. It's too 'arcadey' for me.
This wouldn't have looked good in 2001, it sure as hell doesn't now.
I think the developers would have to pay me to play this one. A very solid pass from me. Hopefully it will appeal to someone in the universe, besides the developers.

As for me they can relase as many shovelware games as they want as long as these games are at least 20y old. INSTABUY! :P
I played this like 18 years ago and I know I downloaded it as a freeware game.
So, if it becomes a paid title now, that would struck me as a strange occurrence for sure.
Hi there,

Developer here, thank you all for your comments! When it comes to classic games our focus is always on preservation. We start by working with the original developers however we can to ensure this happens in a way that aligns with their vision, we also look at areas where we can improve the game for a modern release.

With Tennis Antics we fixed compatibility problems with newer versions of Windows, and we added gamepad support using a custom built wrapper. The game itself is pretty unique and fun when you get into it, but we completely understand if it isn't for everyone. The original 2001 release was held back by a few factors (the development team was let go beforehand, and the publisher went through a re-org shortly after), it's our collective hope that this re-release will allow more players to experience the game and the team's work.

Is there a release date and an estimated price? It looks fun idc if it was freeware in the past I'm glad silly little games are still a thing and the oldies are returning
