System Shock 2 was originally released in 1999 and this cult classic sci-fi horror FPS with RPG elements has become widely considered as one of the best video games of all time.

Now, from the hands of Nightdive Studios, the System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition is coming soon to GOG!

With the goal of reverse engineering the original code to port SS2 to the KEX Engine, this upcoming title will let us enjoy the legendary game from almost 25 years ago, all with cinematics, textures, characters and weapon models updated, and the Co-Op Multiplayer overhauled to create a seamless experience.

Make sure to wishlist it so you won’t miss its release or any special offer and check out the 2023’s System Shock remake to fully prepare for the Enhanced Edition!

I expect to receive this for free as a pre-order bonus for the System Shock remake (2023). Hopefully that'll happen without too many problems.

This has to be a GOG specific problem.
I only ever encountered that message here, and the trailer as such is playing on YT, if you directly search there for it.

Wait...

Gametrailers still exists???
Getting a mixed feeling for dread and excitement, not for this game but maybe Nightdive will now look at remastering Thief 1 & 2 as they ran on the same engine.

Shur1k3n: The current owners of the classic version will get a free copy of the enhanced edition?
After seeing how Nightdive handled Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition, I'm guessing there won't be a free upgrade, but I haven't seen an official statement from Nightdive that addresses this question.

In my opinion, offering a free upgrade is the right thing to do though because there are customers like me who are so satisfied with the current edition that it's hard to justify paying extra money for a marginally upgraded Enhanced Edition. So Nightdive probably won't be getting any extra money from me unless the cost to upgrade is no more than 10% of the game's full price.

Ciprian_L: Seen the IGN trailer for the Enhanced Edition on youtube. A remake using a newer engine would interest me more.
Same here.

Oh well, fortunately SS2 was a bit of a disappointment to me personally, I may have had too high expectations though as I really loved the first SS, even with its wonky controls (which the mods fixed with proper WASD+mouse controls; I think the GOG version has those mods too).

I just recall there were too many irritating features in the gameplay that they eclipsed any good things the game had. Who knows, maybe I'd think differently if I replayed it, but I never got an urge to replay it again, like I did with the original.

I actually agree. I feel like SS1 did a way better job with the formula by creating this feeling of being trapped and having to escape. SS2 didn't have any of that and just felt more like a generic shooter. In fact, I believe that Arkane's Prey (2017) is a far better "spiritual sequel" to SS1 than SS2 ever was.

I don't recall anything that really bothered me about SS2, but aside from being techincally superior, I always found the original to be the better game even with all the VR nonsense that I never really cared for. *shrug* Eventually I shall give their SS1 remake a try as that is a lot more appealing to me than another go at SS2.

Your search led you to a different channel (GameTrailers).
Anyways, the processing is done and it works now. :)

That's why I said it's a GOG specific problem...not a YT problem.
The video played on YT just fine - just not if you tried to access it through GOG.
(just to be clear: at the time of writing (four hours ago), I tried the GOG link first, and got the "video is processed" message...but only on GOG - not on YT)

The same happened with other trailers lately. And only here on GOG.
To my eyes that trailer contains a lot of community created HD assets along with some of Night Dive's own created assets. Night Dive got permission to use said assets many years ago so its legitimate, but it is still others free labor for their profit.

I do not really see this replacing a well modded NewDark port for me. The modding community while small has produced some rather decent work over the years. I am sure the bulk of Night Dives work went into getting this running on Kex so they could port to consoles.

P-E-S: I don't recall anything that really bothered me about SS2
I don't recall for sure, but there was something in the "skill point system" that really bothered me, like that they were extremely scarce and I didn't feel I could develop the character the way I wanted. Or something. Admittedly, SS1 didn't have any skill points system... but you could still enhance your character with extra gadgets or augmentations so it was almost like a RPG.

Then I recall some of the enemies were extremely irritating like some white or yellow robots or androids (I googled and maybe it was the "protocol droid"), and overall the combat just wasn't satisfying, more like irritating.

Also the setting overall just felt kinda meh, not on the level of the first game which started in a very compelling way, waking up from a coma and wondering what the heck has happened in the station, and slowly getting pieces of the story through audio logs and such.

I don't recall being as excited about the SS2 story and atmosphere, unfortunately I knew the "big revelation" in advance when I played it...

It is possible though that I just didn't get it the first time, and if I replayed it today, I like it more, who knows.

I always believed that System Shock 2 wasn't created with the idea of a Jack of all Trades in mind, at least as a very powerful character. It was possible, but because of the point system scarcity it was a matter of hard decisions and it was very possible to end with a sub par character.
