Crosmando: ...Warhammer 40k that depict "Hell" as a dimension of pure, primordial evil and chaos...
The Warp isn't evil, and it isn't Hell.
avatar
Crosmando: I'm pretty sure that early/medieval Christians probably considered Hell to be a dark, gloomy place removed from the light of God, basically the same as the Greek Underworld (Hades) but I doubt they ever considered that it would be as bad as these modern interpretations of Hell which portray a realm of sadistic eternal torture, where the very environment is corrupted and flesh-like.

I think it was really Dante Alighieri who popularized the eternal torture concept in Divine Comedy. And then you've got modern stuff like Event Horizon, Warhammer 40k that depict "Hell" as a dimension of pure, primordial evil and chaos (which granted is far more terrifying than some underground place ruled by a fallen angel).
Actually it was Islam which came up with that. Hell as a place of fire and torment is mentioned in the Quran and "fire of Jahannam is prepared for both mankind and jinn".

Likely the Christians were inspired from there. The medieval times saw a total hell-craze, people like Dante or Bosch are only the famous tip of the iceberg. People were outdoing each other coming up with the most sick and horrendous descriptions and depictions (well they were pretty inventive in torturing and killing people IRL too) of what would be done to "sinners" in hell.

What comic book artists and game designers come up with nowadays is pretty tame in comparison. I don't know who first invented the "organic/flesh hell" imagery - it's pretty cool though.

It basically is, stop being semantic.

No it isn't, I am not semantic, and I don't take orders.

The Warp/Immaterium is psychic reflection of material universe, and as such neither is it primordial, because material universe predates it and not the other way around; neither is it evil, since it merely reflects psyches of the mortals; and neither is it Hell, because Hell is force for order (or should I say Law?) in multiverse. Well, the Emprah's part of the Warp might fulfill the order thing, but who the fuck cares about that cunt anyway?

RedRagan: Well, they're demons. Embodiment of fire and rage and pain. You don't expect demons to sit in a bar playing some melancholic jazz.
Why not? That's pretty much exactly what Lucifer did.

Yeah, but he is an (arch)angel, not a demon:D

Arinielle: Ah, another game to portray hell as being blistering hot and things mentioned here just sounds like what we usually see or hear about on animal documentaries or people that aren't so civilized. Little more than beasts acting on instinct. .. some of that torture crap is hardly worse than some of the worst BDSM kinksters....

Need more ideas of what Hell would be than just firey... Some say it's freezing the deeper you go. Some think it's a desolate place where only the empty soulless drag on for eternity with no rest. Some say it's reliving your death ( if it was a terrible one ) and witnessing many others.. perhaps even dying themselves over and over again.. just to be woken up to have it happen again and again.

I'm disappointed with what I see with this game. I had been waiting for more info on it for a good while but this isn't really doing anything that isn't already done many times over with a different coat of paint.

Wake me when there's more interesting games on succubi... *yawns*
You do realize that majority of BDSM, even the worst one is always have safe word and consent right? You're acting as if this game is so "uncivilized" but since when hell and demons are supposed to be civilized? They're creatures with hatred toward mankind in a place that suppose to punish people in pain either temporarily or forever. People acting as if they can deal with fire or physical torture.

Aren't all (or at least most) demons fallen angels? I remember Crowley is called a demon all the time Good Omens.
Speaking of - if, for some reason there ever would be plans for a W40K game with focus on the really depraved and sick shit like the Daemonculabi, the Night Lord's Screaming Gallery, anything Nurgle/Slaanesh or Commorragh ("Haemonculus Simulator") and the explicit depiction thereof - Madmind Studio might be one of the very few developers, if not the only (willing) one up for the task.
The bar for the level of overall quality in regards to W40K games is generally low (with a few exceptions like Mechanicus or Necromunda: Hired Gun) anyway, so it wouldn't even draw that much or any attention if the execution were subpar and "euro-janky".

BanditKeith2: That or hell is what is personalized to bea persons worst experience a good example I'd say of this is a old Twilight Zone ep I forgot the title but its where this guy believes at first he is in heaven .. Because everything he could ever want is there but their in lies the trap of this hell factor .. the guy meant for hell would soon learn how much suffering ,unease and despairgetting everything going a specific way would bring a person .. ..Basically its a personalized hell scenario that punished the guy in the way he often conned/tricked others if I recall the reason his personalized hell experience was .. Based on.. But then again I could be misrembering why his hell was made like that till he learned the truth because so many other media had done a similar set up..

RedRagan: It's more of a more creative approach where the writer want a more softer torture. Putting hand on a lit fire is painful for everyone and hell is simply a primal pain and torture punishment so painful they can't no longer think. People who wrote hell as mind torture are typical hipster who still think they going to hell but can still get their daily starbuck refill.

Anothername: Really love the basic idea, tries to hard to win a gross out challenge for my taste though. I guess I prefer "She will punish them" as my Succubus with anger issues game even if it has a stupid title :P

meh... I prefer the sexy raging Succubus from the other Succubus game. The one where I don't have to literally eat dick :P

RedRagan: Okay why people complaining? This is close to what hell described, a place for suffering. People forget and start making media about how hell is supposed to be a fun place. Hell is not fun! Hell is there to punish sinner, not sitting in a luau sipping some martini.

So yeah, hell is supposed to make people uneasy. If you can\'t deal with it then play some lego game ffs.
Hell is an invented concept largely open to the interpretation of one's thoughts. After all, שָּׂטָן is merely an accuser or adversary, not the be all to end all the evils of life.

How exactly the mixup occurred as it did probably has something to do with the fact that the ole KJV was essentially a translation party before the concept even existed; rather than be translated from Original Greek, Aramaic, Roman Latin, and Hebrew directly, they basically referenced previous works into a melting pot. (As I understand it.)

I'm no scholar, but it's known that the Torah's texts and Neo Canon had several books excluded from editions already.

So then, I guess we can only ask which Traitor Legion are you part of? :P

avatar
Mafwek: The Warp/Immaterium is psychic reflection of material universe, and as such neither is it primordial, because material universe predates it and not the other way around
But to those who are of the opinion life is hell on (Earth) Holy Terra - a heretical thought, I know - would The Warp not be just hell on/in no place in particular?

avatar
Mafwek: neither is it evil, since it merely reflects psyches of the mortals
And you think most mortals in the Warhammer 40K universe are... not evil? She Who Thirsts did not exactly come out of good vibes, you know.

Breja: Aren't all (or at least most) demons fallen angels? I remember Crowley is called a demon all the time Good Omens.
In the traditional sense, yes. But in some (non-abrahamic) cultures their equivalents are distinct and complementary antagonists of good, not something corrupted or fallen from grace.

A pitch black and frozen hell would be far less picturesque :P. Yet not less effective. Imagine freezing "to death", yet never dying, in pitch black, for all eternity. One might even dare say the origins of a fiery hell lie in the geographical region inhabited by the people that imagined it. I would not encourage such heresy, of course.

Yeah, sure. All I'm saying is that Lucifer (in that comic) is a relevant example of a "demon sitting in a bar playing some melancholic jazz".

I'm pretty sure jazz was called "the Devil's music" at some point in time, so it's only fitting, I guess :P.
