Twenty years ago, the supervillains won. Since then, they’ve created a dystopian city where developing super powers is a crime; nobody has managed to slow them down, until now. Capes is a turn based superhero strategy game where you build a team of heroes and fight to take back the city – and it’s coming soon on GOG!

Played across a series of campaign and patrol missions, choose to push forward with the story or take the time to explore the side missions and unlock more heroes, earn skill points and complete challenges, and learn more about your heroes lives.

Wishlist it now!

Breja: Still, I'd like to see more... well, capes and comic-book-ish costumes.
Honestly, capes never made any sense other than being a fashion statement. The Incredibles said it best. Batman is the only one I know of who ever made practical use of his cape.

No one should take advice on superhero-ing from that overrated snorefest.

Anyway, I don't care if they make sense, they look cool. And that's something this game is sorely lacking (even if the gameplay is good).

And Spawn.

Sr. Chalice: GOG - The Turned Based Platform. This platform already have enough. Just about every game that's released on here is Turned-based. I wait and wait for a new game additionsand what do we get another turned based.
avatar
dtgreene: Swap Turned-based with Real-time (with pause) and you will get what I feel.

I'm actually tired of games labeled as being in certain genres (most notably RPG) being real-time or real-time with pause; I want more turn based RPGs.
Same here. Real time without active pause is a no-no for me now. TB games are sweet. I want games to be interesting, not to create artificial busywork.

P-E-S: GOG, can we get Marvel's Midnight Suns, pretty please?
"We've got Midnight Suns at home."
Darn.

Kidding aside, this does look pretty good. :)
Indeed. And the art seems appropiate for a somewhat dark theme, such as the one of this title.

There isn't a single cape in any of the screenshots or the trailer.

This is a concept that begs for exciting, rule of cool flourishes and instead it just comes across entirely mundane and forgettable.
Turn-based Valorant instead of superhero action movie. meh

"Dollar Bill got his cape stuck in a revolving door."

And if it was possible to see a death like that in this game, it would instantly look way more interesting!
So they reused Freedom Force take on things?
Finally, someone who stepped up with it - I will gladly buy it on a release day :)

Same here. Also, personally I am glad that they seem to have progressed away from the Silver Age to somewhat darker tones. A move that makes sense to the modern reader. Meaning, post Watchmen (and possibly also post Joker (film) and post Tom King's Mr. Miracle).

On a more practical note, it will be interesting to see if the game will be mod-friendly.

If the devs see demand for Silver Age themes, they might deliver them via extensions/DLC. Also, mods.

I never said the game needs to be Silver Age themed (which would make as much sense to a "modern reader" as it did in 2002, by the way, what with the Silver Age having been over since about 1970). I'm just saying it could use a bit of colour and panache. It's not like after Watchmen superheroes stopped wearing costumes and capes.

I played the demo in a former Steam-NextFest and I realy liked it. Great to see this - Day 1 - on GOG.
This reminds me of Freedom Force.

Freedom Force indulged in Silver Age themes and nobody pretended that it was 1970, so it is hard to understand that sentence quoted above. Also, as you know, they explored a bit of other (previous) eras in Freedom Force 2. Capes boasts a first campaign that explores other tones. A welcome change for this player.

Well, I find this sentence hard to understand, so I have to assume we're having some miscommunications issues :D

In what way "first"? Injustice, the Arkham series, even Marvel's Spider-Man were hardly "Comics Code Authority Approved". Unless you mean "for a tactical superhero strategy game", but that's hardly a crowded genre :D

Anyway, I feel like this is becoming a mountains out of molehills situation. I don't think the game looks bad, I certainly don't dislike serious tone in superhero stories, I just think it's visualy rather bland, that's all.
