Microids is on a mission to bring us another installment of Agatha Christie’s iconic tales – Agatha Christie - Death on the Nile is coming soon on GOG!

A peaceful cruise on the Nile is disrupted by a terrible crime. Thankfully, famous detective Hercule Poirot is onboard.
Meanwhile, a private detective is tracking a murderer, leading her from London to Majorca, New York, and finally to Egypt.

The two investigations collide at Abu Simbel. The dynamic duo will solve a complex case full of twists and turns.
But the story doesn’t end with the book, and it still holds many mysteries and twists, even for Agatha Christie fans.
Dual Protagonists: Play as both Hercule Poirot and Jane Royce, each with unique perspectives and storylines that converge in an epic finale.

Wishlist it now!

Breja: But that's not the issue at all. The issue is messing up the existing story when telling a new one would serve the purpose much better. That's why I brought up The Crimson Diamond as a recent example of an original crime story adventure game with a female protagonist that no one has an issue with.

mechmouse: Nearly Every adaptation of a book is altered to fit both medium and time of the adaptation.

You've been perfectly with Miss Lemon and Hastings in the ITV series. Hasting appeared in very few Poirot books, while Miss Lemon was not only lifted from an entirely different Christie detective series but was given a serious make over. The original Miss Lemon was as unsightly as she was efficient, and she was very efficient.
First of all, I have absolutely no problem in a story/game/movie with a capable woman. But if they want to make a detective story with a female protagonist, why don't they just do a Miss Marple game? I would love to play it.

It we're talking about altering a book for a film or movie, yeah of course but WITHIN REASON. For example, including Hastings or Miss Lemon is not extremely out of place. But suddenly putting somebody from the 1930's into the 1970's while he stays the same age is absurd. It's senseless change that is out of place and pointless. Unless of course there is an ulterior motive (that is quite clear here).

Neither of which applies here in a sensible way in my opinion. But, of course, you're free to like this change. I'm just saying that the problem for me and (presumably) others isn't with having a capable woman as a protagonist.

Of course. This is just typical behavior of 'woke' people - gaslighting. They're trying to put themselves on moral high ground, denouncing anything and everything that doesn't conform to their narrow-minded sense of 'tolerance' as bigotry.

You are perfectly happy with "suddenly putting somebody from the 1960's into the 1930's while he stays the same age", mostly because you were likely oblivious to the setting of the original books. Or skip the fact that 90 year old Poirot still looks 60.

Are you aware that Ustinov's Poirot were all set at a contemporary time period to when they are filmed (70s/80s)?

There's a French adaptation of Marple (I believe) that's set in the 60s

The Japanese Anime has Poirot and Marple working together and added Mabel West and her pet duck

And that's just off the top of my head, throw in Shakespeare, Dickens, Doyle I could probably list 2 dozen more adaptations where setting, period and characters are wildly altered to give new an interesting and contemporary twists on old stories.

You wouldn't give a flying fig if they set in the 3020's and done it in some retro futuristic spaceship with Miss L3:MON as some sexy virtual avatar.

Yeah, but Ustinov's Poirot had white hair. Unlike Poirot here.

Uhh... that would be just dumb. Why turn Miss Lemon, of all people, into a sexy anime virtual avatar? Seek therapy.

Because the original had zero social commentary.

There's a difference between natural, organic social commentary and forced, blatantly obvious checkbox-ticking social commentary though.

I didn't know that constitutes a "get out of jail free" card for taking someone elses work and fundamentally altering it for your own agenda.

I guess it's time for me to finally get that The Color Purple adaptation that's all about how terrible current day pop music is off the ground.

Thank you GOG for another adventure game, much appreciated.

I want to play as Hercule Poirot, not some activist's OC.

It's all just so tiresome.

Breja: >sigh<

Really? Again? That's just what you're going to do every time now? Write in your own deuteragonists to an established story to satisfy a gender quota? If you want to make a Jane Royce game then write your own story. The people behind The Crimson Diamond could do it, and they couldn't even afford a mouse!
They aren't talented or creative enough to write their own original stories so they appropriate something already popular and try to sponge off the name. Absolute parasites.

Another inclusive "Agatha Christie"? Thanks, but no. Really, how much more of this crap can we take?

This isn't even Agatha Christie. It's just some mediocre, generic adventure.

Zoidberg: +1! :D
I disagree wholeheartedly. And if you really understood what was going on you wouldn't say stuff like that. Here's an experiment: put 2 rats in a cage together, rattle the cage and see what happens. The rest is up to you to figure out, good luck.

Good health and happiness to everyone.

Neat! I was always a fan of the Tommy and Tuppence series and some of Agatha Christie's lesser known characters. The Man in the Brown Suit is my favorite book of hers. I didn't read a lot of Poirot because I found him boring when I was younger. I've come to appreciate Poirot more as I've gotten older. I even enjoyed playing the ABC Murders game.

I think the new adaptions in movies and games have helped a lot. Changing things up, making them more interesting. Really enjoyed the Death on The Nile movie that had Gal Gadot. The difference in mediums between books and video games means you can't just tell the same exact story. This new video game looks super cool and intriguing. New characters, new perspectives, freshening up Poirot and letting him live on.
