I've upvoted all the Civ games here on their wishlists. I really hope to see them at one point as it's a series close to my PC gaming origins, back when Civ 1 was still a big deal and Civ 2 was the new flavor everyone played.

If I had Civ 1 through 5, Call to Power 1, and even Civ Beyond Earth...I'd be complete ;D

After this, just bring Gearbox over and get us Homeworld, and Microsoft with all of the "Age of" titles...then my strategy history is basically complete :)

Try getting it to run. Civ 2 is a 16-bit program. Getting it to work on a 64-bit OS is a real pain.

I still have my Civ 2 CD, too, so I know first hand.

Try installing a 32 bit linux VM and running the game in WINE there.

The only way I got Civ 2 to run on my Win7 system was via a Win98-Virtual-Machine.

Huh, don't know what I did, but my Civ 2 Test of Time works on my Win 7 machine. But, I can't say if I did or didn't apply random patches sometime in the past.

Which brings me to my next question since I have no experience with the series, which version of Civ 2 would be the best for gog to get? There seems to be Civ 2 and add-ons, and Civ 2 Test of Time released some years after which includes the original content plus extra content: http://www.mobygames.com/game/civilization-ii-test-of-time

The releases from the Civilization Chronicles would be the best ones.

I crave Civilization 4 on GOG! It was the last one in the natural evolution of the Civilization game series.
The fifth went another way with bling and streamlining before gameplay and I care not for that.

Didn't the DLCs fix that?
I sadly never played Civ4, but the graphics always seemed a bit wonky to me.

I'm sure hoping for Civlization games to come today, specifically for Civilization II: Multiplayer Gold Edition. Not that I care about the mp part though, but it's the complete edition containing the original game and the 2 expansions.

Civ4, after all the expansions, is almost as enjoyable as Civ3 (my personal favorite). Civ5...just...got ....better and that's about it. All the expansions could not stop a mediocre game being more than that, but Civ4 came as close as it could to Civ3.

A little. The 1UPT still makes it feel like a poor Panzer General with streamlined "empire building" where you can't fail if you play it as a really expansion heavy wargame unless on the higher difficulties.
Actually gamer friends I have see it more as a wargame and not a 4X game.

I think we'll be waiting awhile given a ton of 2K games were recently released, but we do need Civ here. This is assuming of course there are no legal or technical issues holding them back from releasing here.

What I miss most are the wonder videos :P
