Seryuu: As the person above said, there is a free demo, so feel free to try it if you dont want to take my word for it.
avatar
darktjm: Why is the demo not on gog? I don't want to create a JAST account to download the demo.

Maybe someone who has actually played this can answer some questions. Does the game support multiple saves at any time? Is combat dialog translated? How does combat actually work? Since apparently it's automatic with "suggestions" by the player, when do the suggestions get input? How? Is it real-time? Pausable? Eh, I'm just attracted to the idea of large armies with a variety of individual characters, but if combat is what it appears to be, I'll pass.
I will look into the possibility of getting the demo on GOG, as for your other questions, the game has 100 save slots.
The combat is turn based, at the start of each turn you can select the skills you want your units to use and which enemy units they should focus on attacking. You should take a look at the gameplay trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1hycPbr7BI , and if you would like a more detailed explanation you can check the tutorial video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FwjxVMXSfU

personthingy: Thank you, JAST and GOG! I'd been hoping JAST would get their titles on here once GOG started accepting AO titles. Though I had started asking them about it way back when GOG opened up to VNs years ago.

Anyway, I hope we see more JAST titles here! Nitro+ does incredible work, some of the best in the genre, so fingers crossed those titles will grace the front page eventually. :') And all those classics like Crescendo, Aselia, Brave Soul, Eiyu Senki, Littlewitch...

tl;dr bring more please!
Happy to be here :)

Hello! I take it you're an official employee/representative for JAST USA? If so I'd suggest asking GOG for "orange text" (that they can give employees of developers or publishers) to make your posts stand out.

(posting again but I am a broken record admittedly)
I remain glad GOG is curating less than they used to a few years ago, even if most of the stuff they release doesn't interest me. I hope it pays off for them financially. I just want them to try to ensure less 2nd class citizenship for important content missing from games (not so much achievements, leaderboards, etc.)

As long as GOG keeps bringing in a steady diet of good games..esp. those that have been "Steam / EGS only" titles, I don't mind to have some these "naughty dessert" titles showing up!

JAST does have some DRM-free releases on their store. Picked up Littlewitch Romanesque a while back, in particular. For those reading this post, I recommend Romanesque - it has a cute water-color aesthetic, and is a nice slice-of-life story about teaching students some magic. Being an 18+ game, some pleasurable mishaps teach lessons in magic and good sense.

Let's see if I got it.

All of our releases are DRM-free. Like GOG, jastusa.com is a DRM-free storefront.

No, sorry. I think you need to contact the staff and specifically ask for it.

Marcus-Havoc: Kinda curious, If I buy these games, I was planning on doing it on JAST USA store because that would get you people the most benefit, but why the price difference in general?
avatar
Seryuu: Probably due to regional pricing.
Bought Closed game, seeing as I'm a fan of Sei shoujo. And already at the start, the translation isn't even correct.

JAST USA Original
“Listen my sweet darling. I want you to produce this season of the game.”

Translated by me
My cute, cute, little Kitten. Please choose the setting for the next game.

JAST USA translation
“S-shut the fuck up!”

What is actually being said.
Cut it out already, or in other words, "That’s enough" "stop it already"

And what's with all the swear words? Its full of swear words, while the Japanese language barely has any. Or at least has very mild form and never goes to the form of, fucking this or that!!

I've come across of a lot of cringes like translation,
"It looks delicious!" suddenly becomes "This looks de-fucking-licious!"
What is even the point of making it a swear word?

This is NIS America excusing their meme insertion as spicing up the translation. You only have one job, why not do it correctly while you're at it? (Not directed at you but in general the localizers or even the translator)

Just near the start, and this is only the most bothersome over the top I encountered. There is even more, but that would mean I have to rewrite a lot of text.

" Everyone/everybody run!!" becomes run for your fucking lives!"
Even if I were to do it less literal, I'd go with run away everyone/everybody.

Marcus-Havoc: Don't worry the next time I come across the images or in general a debate about it, I will archive it, but I never expected most people to be such NPC's. Would be nice if people actually were more interested in the finer detail of what they are actually buying.
I'm pretty sure most of us are against censorship in translations, just like you are. You are right that that is a real issue with some games.

However, the problem with your posts, is that you are painting that issue with too broad of a brush, and making a vast sweeping generalization, and assuming it applies to these JAST games even though you haven't cited any actual evidence of that.

If it does apply to JAST games, then you need to prove it with a specific example of the problem occurring. Otherwise, your allegation that JAST games suffer from this has no merit.

Actually, I bought Closed game and going through it and I already notice a pretty loose translation of things. Some lines hold up, But sadly my Japanese reading skills are very low. I was thinking of going through the game and write the cringe or badly translated parts and ask the translator at Varishangout to look it over to be sure I was correct on it.

My Japanese is pretty decent when it comes to spoken words.

Breja: Holy crap is this ugly. We've been getting so much anime crap and porn in recent months it's not even funny any more.
Good thing no one cares about your terrible opinion whenever these games are released.

This was very helpful. Thanks.

edit: just to be clear, it seems interesting enough from that video that it seems worth a try. The only real fault is that the battle voices (or the only ones I saw, where the characters cry out their special attack) are not subtitled. This is actually fairly common in games I've seen (MISTOVER is a notable exception) Then again, if all they do is cry out their attack, it doesn't matter. At least the post-battle commentary is in (English) text. To those who say I should just learn Japanese (esp. given the amount of Japanese media I consume, including my current favorite musical group being Japanese): Sorry, I can't go and learn a new language in a rush just to play a game. I tried once many years ago so I could use one of my electronic toys more effectively, but it's just not something I can do that easily. I can't devote enough time to it.

At long last! JAST USA finally made its way here in GOG just in time for the holidays! Hurray!!!
Many thanks for GOG and JAST USA for bringing these Visual Novel SRPG masterpiece in here!
Hope to see more titles from JAST USA in the foreseeable future!

For a Visual Novel SRPG, its gameplay aspect is pretty deep and engaging! Quite close on the level of greatness to that of Rance games!

When I played my first VenusBlood game which is the JAST USA version of VenusBlood Hollow International, I felt like I was playing the spinoff version of Unholy Heights which is also here in GOG, only on a massive grand scale and fantastic narrative! If you guys were looking for game similar to Unholy Heights and craving for more games like it! I think this game would be able to satisfy such needs! Well I’ve personally enjoyed playing it at least!

This VN SRPG is a blast to play even without the +18 content since the gameplay aspect is just that deep! Whenever you recruit units and build a division out of them (group of 6 units) and send them to battle! It kind of gives you that sense of gratification if your able to build an effective unit compositions! And utter disappointment and frustration if you didn’t build the right one since you wasted your resources and you’re basically screwed up… Good thing there’s enough save slots to correct such screw ups.

Highly Recommended! Just play these games especially VenusBlood Hollow! You won’t regret it!

Just ignore all the haters and naysayer in general. They can bark all they want but there’s nothing much they can do… (snicker)

Good to know, and is quite commendable. :)

If JAST is looking to headhunt potential games for their catalog, I can make several recommendations if you want.
avatar
izumixpanda: Same, but sadly both Bible Black and Discipline are out of print and likely won't be be re-released or remade due to licensing issues as you mentioned but both Starless and Closed Game are available on JAST USA totally DRM-free. These games likely won't come to GoG or Steam due to the extreme content so highly recommend anyone interested to check them out on the JAST store.
avatar
Marcus-Havoc: I'd rather see Sei shoujo redo both Bible black and Discipline, Instead of what he is doing now most of the time, Those retarded online card games. An utter waste of talent.

If you want something similar, check out Butcha-U, he's even doing a regular Manga now with intense erotica.
avatar
TomNuke: Hey, no worries, man. I'm sorry about how I worded that also. Looking at it again, I sounded a little rude there.

Honestly, it's nice to see another person who's read some of those titles. I'm a pretty big Sei Shoujo fan, and am hoping we'll see something new from JAST next year on that front.

I really think everyone who reads eroge needs to read things like Bible Black, Discipline, Starless, Closed Game and so on...

And talk about a couple games there that could use a remaster for modern systems... Probably would never happen because of licensing issues, but I'd love to see a remaster of Discipline and Bible Black.
avatar
Marcus-Havoc: I agree with you on the Sei shoujo front, Massive fan of him. The same goes for Butcha-U.

Sadly, Empress isn't doing much in what you call expansion when it comes to new Empress games in general. The last one was The Great Deceiver, and it was very short on content. They should have used CG from that stupid card games they are focusing on most of the time. Not sure if they are still doing the card game, but they sure aren't doing much in creating new VN.
Did you sleep on Sleepless? Empress made an entire full-length Starless prequel and it did really well in Japan. https://vndb.org/v30807
