In joint efforts with the original creators, Capcom, we’re thrilled to announce the re-release of the original Resident Evil™, the groundbreaking series that heralded the golden age of the survival horror genre!

This iconic classic is now available with all its original content intact, featuring quality of life improvements and enhanced compatibility for modern systems. As part of GOG’s ongoing effort to protect and preserve classic games, Resident Evil is now available on the DRM-free GOG store!

Capcom's Resident Evil series has defined and revolutionized the survival horror genre, with the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil™ 2, and Resident Evil™ 3: Nemesis being standout titles that have captivated gamers worldwide. While Resident Evil set the stage, introducing players to the eerie Spencer Mansion and navigating them through terrifying encounters and intricate puzzles, its atmospheric tension and innovative gameplay mechanics laid the foundation for the series' success. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis successfully expanded the universe, delivering unforgettable experiences that deepened the franchise's lore and horror elements.

That’s not all, though – for the complete Resident Evil experience, we decided to invite someone special to tell us something more about the series. It’s Suzi Hunter, also known as TheSphereHunter! In an exclusive video, Suzi will introduce the history of the franchise and tell the story of its originals’ revival, while interviewing some of the most interesting figures that took part in the process – including GOG’s very own Technical Producer, Adam Ziółkowski, as well as Head of Business Development, Bartosz Kwietniewski. The video will go live soon, and you’ll be able to watch it HERE – so stay tuned!

That being said – Resident Evil is now live on GOG, DRM-free! You can also wishlist Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, or pre-purchase them alongside Resident Evil in a special Bundle – you wouldn’t want to miss this occasion!
Wow, that's great! I had multiple issues making the rebirth trilogy to run on my modern system. Think I'll give this a try.

darthspudius: Do you think they had four games in a series everyone hates?

BreOl72: "Everyone" is such a big word - it shouldn't be used, if the claim can't get backed up by evidence.
Fonzer is asking "how" are these games liked, hence the answer lol
Instant purchase!
I've always wanted to get these games on PC!
Thank you for bringing them GOG!

Do we know if RE2 and RE3 are based on the SourceNext version or on the original PC versions?
Now THIS is what I am talking about. This just made up for the whole sale. If this is all that comes, I am completely fine with it. Well done GOG. Well done. Glad I was proven wrong!
GOG strikes back... again!

I'd assume the original PC versions, which were already derived from the version for Dual Shock.

RE 1 had a dedicated Windows version with uncensored cutscenes and colored intro, which is what GOG used, so it's likely the same for the other two (PC versions).

Oh, I get that. ;)

However, at its release, RE4 was met with some negativity, and darthspudius' answer implies, that EVERYONE hated RE4 (= the only game in the series, that Fonzer played), but that they wouldn't have made four games (up to that point), if EVERYONE hated all of those which came before it, either.

And my reply to that was: not EVERYONE hated/hates RE4 (as a matter of fact, we don't even know wether Fonzer liked RE4 or not - he didn't say).

I, for one, enjoyed playing RE4 (on my Wii).

Fonzer: I only played and finished RE4. How are these titles liked by people?
Since i never played them.
I cannot speak for people as a whole but RE4 is completely different game than 1-3 and I suppose they will be consider by many as too oldscholl (tank controls esecially) but they also have a cult following so others think that thay great
Edit: But if you liked RE4 there is quite big chance that you won't enjoy this one.

This is great!

I hope Dino Crisis 1 and 2 are next and we'd have all the original Survival Horror titles from Capcom's PS1-era

I think there might be a language issue here and Fonzer actually meant to ask "how people like/feel about" RE1-3... not trying to bash this release.

As many have already said, a HUGE thank you to Capcom and GoG for releasing this classic trilogy of what is a monument of horror gaming here.

I hope the sales will motivate Capcom to release more old and not-so-old games here (I'm thinking, in no particular order, of the Ace Attorney series, the Dead Rising series, Devil May Cry HD Collection, Dino Crisis, Dragon's Dogma 2, Okami HD, Onimusha: Warlords, Remember Me...).

I also hope this will encourage Konami and SEGA to re-release their old games on GoG. Each has an incredible PC software library just waiting to be explored and commercially exploited.

I'm not even talking about SquEx, which seems too reluctant to offer its Japanese games here...

I enjoyed the first pc version of RE4. At least i would not finish it if i didn't like it.
