In joint efforts with the original creators, Capcom, we’re thrilled to announce the re-release of the original Resident Evil™, the groundbreaking series that heralded the golden age of the survival horror genre!

This iconic classic is now available with all its original content intact, featuring quality of life improvements and enhanced compatibility for modern systems. As part of GOG’s ongoing effort to protect and preserve classic games, Resident Evil is now available on the DRM-free GOG store!

Capcom's Resident Evil series has defined and revolutionized the survival horror genre, with the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil™ 2, and Resident Evil™ 3: Nemesis being standout titles that have captivated gamers worldwide. While Resident Evil set the stage, introducing players to the eerie Spencer Mansion and navigating them through terrifying encounters and intricate puzzles, its atmospheric tension and innovative gameplay mechanics laid the foundation for the series' success. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis successfully expanded the universe, delivering unforgettable experiences that deepened the franchise's lore and horror elements.

That’s not all, though – for the complete Resident Evil experience, we decided to invite someone special to tell us something more about the series. It’s Suzi Hunter, also known as TheSphereHunter! In an exclusive video, Suzi will introduce the history of the franchise and tell the story of its originals’ revival, while interviewing some of the most interesting figures that took part in the process – including GOG’s very own Technical Producer, Adam Ziółkowski, as well as Head of Business Development, Bartosz Kwietniewski. The video will go live soon, and you’ll be able to watch it HERE – so stay tuned!

That being said – Resident Evil is now live on GOG, DRM-free! You can also wishlist Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, or pre-purchase them alongside Resident Evil in a special Bundle – you wouldn’t want to miss this occasion!
OMGGGGG !!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3
This is a very nice surprise, RE and Alpha Protocol are the most important releases from the last 12 months by GOG considering game preservation.

Now, if only GOG could convince Capcom to release Dino Crisis 1 and 2 here as well... Both games got PC ports back then like the RE trilogy.

Well if Capcom gets good revenue from Resident Evil I'm sure they would be open to releasing Dino Crisis.

I know I have said it a few times but these companies listen to profit above all else.

P-E-S: RE1 was originally designed with the the PS1 controller in mind, so tank controls for this kind of game made perfect sense at the time. I wouldn't be surprised if it still played better on a modern gamepad than on a keyboard. *shrug* Hell, I found the Tomb Raider trilogy remaster tank controls more comfortable on a gamepad, and I played the original games with keyboard before then.
I only played once with a controller and it was a rather embarrassing experience...

Looking quite good so far, according to the all-time bestsellers list:

Resident Evil 2 and 3 already dragged their yet to walk upright corpses to page 42 (out of 204), currently at position 1980 and 1979 (out of a total of 9783 items) respectively, while Resident Evil managed to shuffle a little further onto page 39, currently at position 1842.
I think this great news all around, love to see preservation pursued to this degree especially.
I remember RE:3. I rented it from Blockbuster one summer and could only make it up to the Police Station.

Hoping the remakes come here.

RawSteelUT: I'm really hoping we see more out of the company. Dino Crisis, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Bionic Commando: Rearmed... Could we even see RE 5 and the remakes here one day?
I'd very much like to see the Bionic Commando games hit GOG, too.

EDIT - Here are the links to the wishlist entries, I guess it doesn't hurt to add one's vote:

(a porting of the original arcade included as a bonus would be great, too...)

Yeah but you know, Heroes 3 is the number 1 best selling game on GOG since forever, and rest of the series is also very high, yet Ubisoft doesn't seem particularly impressed by it.
You know, given the... Issues we're having with the version we have now, I have to wonder why the PS1 version wasn't used here, or at least included as an extra. Censored intro or no, Director's Cut did have some other features that seem absent from the PC version.

Please, is it possible for me to know why the release of a game DRAGON DOGMA has problems or what are the types of these problems and what is the problem with the latest update for the mentioned game DRAGON DOGMA? Is there a slight hope that Capcom will issue a new update for the game in the hope that it will be a new beginning for them to release the rest of their modern games like the rest of the parts? RESIDENT EVIL Evil series

The pawn sharing system - as in lending yours out to other players and vice versa - doesn't work properly but other than that the GOG version of Dragon's Dogma is reportedly "perfectly playable from beginning to end", which I can also attest to.

Soloing the game with no pawns at all is THE most rewarding way to play anyway, in my opinion.

Thank you very much for the answer. Is there any hope for new releases from Capcom, such as the Unknown Evil series of games and other games in the future?

Oh, I've used pawns plenty during my playthrough. I just kept exchanging them intermittently every few levels or so. Worked just fine. :)

Possible but imo unlikely. Capcom has left Dragon's Dogma outdated and unfixed for several years now. Of course the fact that they added 3 classic games now let's us hope that they will now also fix this but it is more likely that they don't really care because the game still sold well even in the state it is right now and the comments above mine show that it's even possible to enjoy the game in the state it is right now - so why should they put additional work and time into a GOG release that is already selling well?
