Elmofongo: I like em all.

Black Sabbath: War Pigs
Judas Priest: Leather Rebel
Iron Maiden: Aces High
Motörhead: Overkill

tinyE: Not to further confuse matters, but Faith No More's version of 'War Pigs' is IMHO waaaaaay better.
Faith no more is a bunch of alternative grundge hipster emo faggotry :P
avatar
RWarehall: Each of those bands were kings at their peaks.
And all of them have had longevity.
To pick between them is almost silly.
You could add The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin to that list and ask the same question and still not be sure of the correct answer....
What no Deep Purple or Queen?

Black Sabbath, no contest - they are pretty much the originators of metal and the stuff still holds up today. Iron Man is the song that most got me interested in much as a kid... too bad about all the Ozzy drama though; I think they remained good/relevent with Dio and even more recent Tony Martin stuff.

Or Cream, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, T-Rex, Pink Floyd, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Kinks, David Bowie or the Who. And I'm sure I left a few out. And these are just British connections, or else bands like AC/DC fit the bill.
Freddie Mercury was one of the best, if not the best, vocalist ever but (and as much as I love Queen), I don't think that puts them up there with a lot of the others in this conversation.

If I could make a super group Freddie would be my first pick for lead vocals easy, along with Mr Moon on drums, but everything else would be a tough call.

This has really turned into a fun thread BTW. We are going after each other without fighting or being mean to each other; we're all just having fun with it. Big ups to Elmo.

Hmm, Kings of british heavy metal? Iron Maiden, of course! "Rhyme of the ancient mariner" is a fantastic song. Second would be Judas Priest, the "Ram it down" album was great. The other two bands are kinda meh.
When we talk about metal in general, I would like to mention "Helloween", their "Keeper of the seven keys part II" album was absolutely geil!!!

It's also too damn long. :P

I love it not only because it`s a good song, but also because it is that long! I also love the "Keeper of the seven keys" song of Helloween, it`s very long, too.

darthspudius: That is an absolute waste of good material. Without Ozzy the band wrote so much better material. Heaven & Hell, TYR, Cross Purposes, Headless cross. Beats a lot of that bloated mid '70s stuff.

Elmofongo: Dio era was better for you. You share the same thoughts as my Brother ;)

babark: You've heard one Iron Maiden Song, you've heard them all. You've heard that one Judas Priest song (you know the one I speak of!), you've heard the best. And the other two bands are overblown.

Yes, I like to oversimplify :P

Elmofongo: Iron Maiden always play their most famous songs than anyother band.

Mostly from Number of the Beast and Poweslave albums. Oh and the song the Trooper.
Actually I prefer Tony Martin era. But my favourites are still the first two albums. Not a fan of the albums that followed though I do enjoy them. The change in drumming style just irks me. Bill Ward lost his mojo after the Paranoid album.
1: Judas Priest
2: Black Sabbath
3: Iron Maiden
4: Motorhead

The gap between 2 and 3 is razor thin.

Bill Ward is a Jazz drumer playing metal. And I like it.

?
Them's fightin' words. :p

Faith no More in concert in 1997 was amazing.

Well he was in on the first two albums. He sounded fantastic on those bluesy fills. But after that he just became an average tub thumper. A Shame too, he had so much talent.

Elmofongo: Which of these 4 bands is the one true KING of British Heavy Metal for you? Me
Cut the pie into Essex, Wessex, Sussex and Northumbria, and each will be king. :P

Judas Priest is not a favorite of mine, so the others share the podium.
I preferred Brian Maiden when Di'Anno was singer. Don't get me wrong, Bruce has a hell of a voice, but nothing beats the original.

While we are at it, can we put Tiger Tailz and Def Leppard in the mix?
