blogstory: I am having difficulty interpreting what you typed...
I am not interested in Newton's physics and long travel times, perhaps I should steer clear of the Elite games?
Trying to interpret your text, I searched for the series' various versions (I was unaware of the different titles & versions; and I am still unclear):
1. Elite -Pub by Acornsoft in 1984?
2. Frontier: Elite II in 1993?
3. Frontier: First Encounters in 1995?

If the above is accurate then which one? - maybe I will leave this to the dustbin of the past.

toxicTom: I was writing about 2. and 3., sorry if it was a little unclear. In-game travel times are indeed (realistically) long, but with the "Star Dreamer" time acceleration actual travel at most takes a few minutes. I found in games like X or Freelancer in the end it took more time to get from place to place, even if the planets are almost in spitting distance from each other ;-)

If you don't like Newton physics, you should indeed stay clear of these games, maybe give the old Elite (or Oolite) a try, which has a more "airplane" feel to flying the ship.
OK, I'll stay clear of the Elite series as I was considering the Oolite ( I downloaded it a few days ago but was waiting until I have read more game FAQs...
Thank you for your helpful suggestions.

Several days ago I downloaded Oolite and was waiting to read more game faqs before installing and playing.

- OH! I have started replaying Heros quest series, and GalCiv. These titles will be consuming my time...

Morrowind definitely, for worldbuilding, uniqueness, open-endedness and the matter-of-fact plot reveals.

Icewind Dale is a close second. The characters were great and the story well told.

If you like space 4X games, IMO Master of Orion 2 is still the best there is. It's here on GOG too.
I didn't wanna make a new thread for it, so I'll just use this old one of mine.

Xenoblade X came out today. I just got back from GameStop with the Special Edition. I can't wait to get into it. Unfortunately I won't get to playing much since finals are gonna stretch over the next three weeks with other projects to do as well. Oh well. I'm gonna enjoy it today at least.
Ultima Underworld 1
Ultima 7
Fallout 1 & 2
Balduro & Icewinds
Deus Ex

Others that don't remember.

Personally the jappa "things" are just... well, "things".

I saw the launch trailer and I think the game is amazing. It reminds me some mix of Mass Effect + Phantasy Star Online + Monster Hunter. But with a different style.
Enjoy that incredible RPG on the WiiU! :)
Too many favorites to pick on pc. The elder scrolls games, fallout games, baldur's gate games, planescape. mass effect series, the witcher series. All really great games.

For some reason though, none of them have the same magic as the old nintendo and super nintendo days for me. lol. I played final fantasy 1, 2 and 3 on nes and super nes and I think part 3 was probably my favorite there. Snes had a lot of really good rpg's I wish I could remember all of them now. I think Chrono Trigger was one, shit there were so many. Once playstation and xbox and the newer nintendo starting going though, seemed like good rpg's were harder to find. Other than better combat and graphics, the newer ff games I didn't think were as good as the old nintendo ones.

Maybe it's just because I got older who knows. I keep meaning to try the remakes of the final fantasy games on pc and see for myself.
Arcanum
Fallout 1+2
Breathe of Fire 3
Xenogears
Star Ocean 2 (I believe)
Chrono Trigger

Off the top of my head

Mass Effect 3. I mean, the whole series is brilliant but Mass Effect 3 in particular is one of my top favourite games ever. No other game has made me laugh and cry as much as that game.
The PS2 also had some of the best RPGs in it's lifetime. I know for a fact that Rogue Galaxy and Dark Cloud just popped up on PS4 now that Sony has started work on their own backwards compatibility, and those two games are well worth buying if you have a PS4. They're absolutely fantastic JRPGs. Certainly old, but grand nonetheless.

Thanks, I played it for a few hours yesterday. I certainly have enjoyed what I have played so far. I have a couple gripes, but overall the experience has been very positive up to this point.
My favorite RPGs, in no specific order, would have to be:

Skyrim
Final Fantasy X
Skies of Arcadia
Grandia II
Fallout 4
Chrono Trigger
Mass Effect 2
Borderlands 2

I could list off many more but those are my favorites :)
The more I think about it, Icewind Dale really had the right ingredients that make a CRPG fun to me.

The only thing i could wish for would have been a proper quest log which clearly marks which quests are still unfinished.
Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Summoner 2
Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II and Dragon Age: Inquisition
Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3
The Witcher 1, 2 and 3
Dragon Quest 7 or 10 ? (the one you can go Super Saiyan)
Persona 2, 3 and 4
Shadow Hearts
Shadow Hearts: "Covenant" and "From The New World"
Gothic "1" and 2
KOTOR 1 and 2
Fallout: New Vegas
And a couple more, but cant think of them right now...
